  4. All Organs

This is a collection of 18 organ "tones" making up all the organ uploads I could find in the current uploads as of 7/17/2014 for the XW-P1. These should be unzipped and put in your "userdat" folder for transfer with the XW-P1 data editor. .ZDOs are drawbar organs. .ZLT are PCM tones and .ZTN are hex layer organs.

  5. Saw Lead, Saw Lead II, Tyrian, VA Thing

    Tones from a beginner
All tones except VA Thing are made by layering the same wave and playing with detune and fine tune.
"Tyrian" is an attempt to emulate the sound from Alexander Brandon's music from the good old space shooter, Tyrian 2000. Set the cutoff to -40 for a more subtle tone.
VA Thing is a bit unfinished, since it uses only 3 layers, the others are muted or turned off.
Any constructive suggestions on how to improve these sounds are more than welcome.
    Have a nice day !

  6. Casio XW-P1 Cakewalk Sonar Instrument Definition File

This is a modified Cakewalk Sonar Instrument Definition File for the Casio XW-P1. It will allow you to access all of the sounds on the XW-P1 from inside of Sonar, Cakewalk, Reaper, or any other program that uses the .INS instrument definition file format.
In this revision I added bank 100 (User PCM Melody) and bank 125 (User Drums) to Mike Martin's V 0.5 Instrument Definition File.
Now we can access 100 more user tones (piano, strings/brass, guitar/bass, synth and various) and 10 user drum kits.

  7. PF_Pad

A poster asked about a Pink Floyd patch on Wish You Were Here. This is what I've been using for that type of PF pad sound for the some of their songs... it should work for that GmDmCm intro. I think these are 4 stock patches in the P1 that make up the performance.

  8. Lead Electric Guitar (Solo Synth)

My attempt at some lead guitar sounds using the solo synth. All three use the modulation wheel for something other than vibrato.

    (1) Lead Guitar.ZSY is based on an overdrive guitar PCM wave (0312) with some mild distortion added. It uses the mod wheel to increase release time.

    (2) LeadGuitrHrm.ZSY uses the same base sound but the mod wheel crossfades it with a detuned guitar harmonic PCM (0328). Rolling the wheel up after a sustained note introduces what hopefully sounds like feedback.

    (3) LdGtrAutoHrm,ZSY uses the same PCMs as (2) but adds an envelope to the harmonic sound that automatically fades it in if a note is held for a few seconds. The mod wheel determines how much of the harmonic sound is heard.

  9. Brass SFZ

The elusive Brass Swell (or Sforzando) tone! This exists on the earlier WK keyboards, but it's suspiciously missing from both the PX and XW synths. This one will give you a swell when you press it lightly and a punchy brass when you hit it hard. The velocity won't control the overall volume, only the envelope.
For this to work you need all 3 files I uploaded:
    BRASSSFZ.ZPF (Performance) - Brass SFZ
    BRASS___.ZTN (PCMTone) - Brass - saved at U3-0
XW_SWELL.ZSY (Solo Tone) - XW Swell - saved at U0-1
If you want to save the PCM and Solo tones elsewhere, just edit the Performance and point at those. Zone 1 points to XW Swell. Zone 2 points at Brass. The "XW SWELL" tone doesn't actually produce any sound itself (all oscillators are off). I'm using this for the envelope only, as the Solo tones have more parameters than Hex tones. "Brass" is just the standard brass tone with velocity off.

  11. various Hex Layer sounds 001

Don't know if these will be useful, but I thought I'd upload some Hex Layer sounds. General synth bell kinds of sounds and pads and stuff. Here is a demo of these sounds I posted on SoundCloud:
    https://soundcloud.com/hypnotuba/casio-xw-p1-hex-layer-demo-001
I also included a Performance called "LoFiBellDron" for use with the sound "bell<>fades". It just assigns the knobs to the DSP effects parameters (in this case, the Lo-Fi effect.) I also added a very simple phrase sequence ("2BarLiveDtne") I recorded which just moves knob K2 back and forth. I use it a lot for automatic detune control for Hex Layers. Turns everything into nice chorusy sounds. lol I included these two files because I use them in the sound demo above.
note: Even though I put an "001" at the end of the file name, I doubt I'll ever upload 1000 different bundles of hex layer sounds.

  14. Casio XW-P1 Tone Spreadsheet

This is an Excel Spreadsheet that you can use to easily sort, filter and find tones on the Casio XW-P1. The important columns are as follows:
Column A = Preset or User
    Column B = Group Name
    Column C = Bank - Number
    Column D = Tone Name
    Column F = Program Change
Column L = Bank Select MSB
This may speed you up if you are trying to pick the perfect sound inside of Sonar or another program using the Instrument Definition Files.

  19. Smooth Crossfading in a Hex Layer Tone

The attached zip archive contains two examples of crossfading between two waves in a Hex Layer tone. Crossfading is a much smoother way to transition between two waves with playing force than velocity switching.

In these examples the crossfading occurs between two waves that are sampled from the same instrument and which are used for the velocity-switched "60's E.Piano" PCM melody tone (P2-0 in the PCM Piano category). One sample was presumably recorded from a low-velocity strike; the other from a high-velocity strike. A key feature of the crossfading is that the full dynamic range of the instrument is maintained over the velocity range.

One example—3-SEG_XF.ZLT—uses all six layers while the other—2-SEG_XF.ZLT—uses only four layers, leaving the final two layers available for introducing other waves. Two additional files are included in the zip archive: TESTVELO.ZSS and TESTVELO.ZPF. These can be useful to test for the smoothness of the transitions between each segment in the final tone. The first file is a sequence that repeats the same note at increasingly higher velocities over the total velocity range. The second file is a Performance that calls up the sequence and the tone. The Performance is required only because the single active track of the sequence needs to point to Part 1 not Part 14. That assignment can only be done from within a Performance. Load the Performance, the sequence and the tone wherever you want in your XW-P1 then edit the Performance to tell it where you put the sequence and the tone.

A full description of how the crossfading is accomplished can be found here.

  21. "Synth" Tone from "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who

This is certainly not the first time an emulation of the "synth" tone from "Won't Get Fooled Again" (1971) by the Who has been presented here. "Synth" is in quotes because the main sound originally came from an organ, which was merely processed through the filter of an early British synthesizer, the EMS VCS 3. This version combines ideas from both Brett Myor and "Bigmark" who released multiple versions of this emulation to the site some time ago. I haven't downloaded or tried them; hopefully this one is not just repeating what someone else has already done.

The zip file contains two required components: a Performance and a user effect. Store the effect where you like in your XW and edit the Performance to point to it.

This was created on an XW-P1. However, the only thing stopping it from working on an XW-G1 is the location of the required preset PCM tone Full Drawbar (P6-0 in the PCM Piano Category). The XW-G1 has the same tone in its presets but stored in a different location, namely P140. (PCM presets are organized differently on the two keyboards.) Hence, if you edit the Performance to use P140 it should work on the G1.

PS. A full description of how the emulation was crafted is provided in The XW-P1 Companion: Volume 2 - Emulation Examples.

  23. GOLDN OLDIES

This is a hex layer patch.
Sliders 1 and 2 are stereo panned Choirs.
Sliders 3 and 4 are stereo panned old tape pads.
    Slider 5 is Slow Strings.
Slider 6 is a tremolo organ.
I wanted a patch so I could play some of the older 50's and 60's songs. My dad was a child of the 50's ,so that"s usually all we play when we get together for some jamming sessions.
This patch has an almost transistor organ crossed with mellotron sound.
Of course you can adjust for your own tastes.
Works well for songs like - End of the world.
    House of the Rising Sun
    Stand by Me
    Telestar
    96 Tears
