PX-5S Phrases

15 files

  1. OneNote

    One Note

This an example file for what I'm explaining right here.

So it works like this Zone 1 ,  has regular drumkit with phrase 92 for accompany
Zone 2 where hexlayer kit is  , Both files Onenote Stage and Onenote phrase are
needed. Be sure when downloading Onenote phrase to assign it to Zone 2.

What I've did is make individual one note sequence per key from C2 To F2.
Could done the phrase on the keyboard but did it in a daw lots of possibilities.

This only works best  with one hexlayer note fixed to a key like D2# what I experimented so far.
When the phrase plays each key plays a different pattern , other layers wont get heard because
there one layer on. More layers possible but distance between notes where the layers stored is
needed for instance one layer on C2 the other on G3 etc , To compliment two patterns with each other.

The reason I chose to work with daw with this because its easier to experiment patterns with locking certain
note keys.  I wonder now how crazy the shapes of the pattern could be and trigger each note by it.

Its a cool something I've bumped at making phrase motion , grooves and such.

    and example audio  file.

  3. Audition phrase. Tempo at 60 to play.

PX5S sounds are not just a tone sound they are very deep and broad sounding like stereo , mono , resonant and such ,
Listening with headphones you can't hear much precisely if there a lot going like delay , reverb  or eq. So one day I  made
a phrase just noodling around something classic /cultural. Which I've played slowly in the phrase recorder and upped it at
tempo 60 when played back.  Started to play it with every sound from every category I liked it so much cause I could hear
the versatility off every tone.  I though why not back this up on the forum and share it as well. It may not be to your liking
as audition but skim to all the tones with it through the phrase recorder and notice why.

So here my Audition Phrase to listen to hear aspect of a tone you might not always pay attention to.

Standard Tempo is 120 which is not preferred (definitely not)

    Tempo = 60 ,

  4. Sleng Teng Riddim

Just a test for everyone who loves reggaed and Casiotone MT-40.
I have to tweak a bit the tones to simulate with a complex and powerful hex layer synth engine a dual square wave oscillator and a lowpass filter 😉 but the factory square lead 2 tone in the synth section should suffice.

  15. Drum loops

Many people have talked on here about rhythm loops and I have had a little experiment with a few ideas. I found for me, the easiest way is to set my rhythm loops up on a phrase which then repeats. A simple swing rhythm in the background of Misty played on piano and strings is quite nice. I have also found that setting sliders 1-4 to volume for zones 1 to 4 means I am able to balance between (for example) 1- Drums -2 Hex Grand Piano 3- Electric Piano 4- Strings. This creates a very simple but effective canvas to work with.

I program my various rhythms so they are sequentially programmed on the phrases so for example 101-Swing 1, 102-swing 2 103-swing 3 etc.. this means that with a single stage setting, I can simply push the phrase button and then the + or - button to step through to the pattern I want. I have basic bossanova, several swing, ballad and a latin pop rhythm I use. You can also vary sound a little by changing the drum kit used.

It is important to have the zone enabled so you can still effect it with the various knobs and sliders. To prevent the keys sounding the percussive sounds I set the Drum zone (which has to be Zone 1) so that it only plays on G9. I have attached a few drum loop phrases. If you are able to change between phrases on the first beat of the bar then you can change mid play without any noticeable interruption. I have attached a few phrases for you to put on your PX5S to have a play with... Remember to unzip them and put them in your musicdat folder. Upload them into your arpregiator and have fun. If any one needs a stage setting fileusing them, let me know. My swing patterns were loaded from phrase 101-106.

    Regards

    Steve
