  1. Just a further clarification of how these settings work: In any target that is intended to send an On/Off message, such as Zone On/Off, Arpeggio On/Off, LayerX On/Off etc., any Min value of 63 or less sends the Off message and any Max value of 64 and above sends the On message, therefore a Min value of 0 and a Max value of 127 will send the Off and On messages respectively. With these types of targets, reducing the On Rate and Off Rate values to less than 127 causes a delay before the message is sent. For example, reducing the On Rate to 3 will cause a delay of a few seconds; if it is reduced to 0, the message will never be sent. If the targets are Continuous Controls that accept variable values such as Volume, Expression etc., the Min Values, Max Values, On Rate and Off Rate act differently. The Min and Max values are obviously set to whatever you require for the control and the On and Off Rates control how long it will take reach those values. Importantly though, it needs to be understood that in the case of the pedals set to Momentary Mode, the Max value is the value that is sent when the Pedal is depressed (on), while the Min Value is the value that is sent when the pedal is released (off). In Toggle Mode, Max and Min values are sent alternatively. For example, say I want Pedal 2 to provide a sforzando-like effect to give a quick dip in volume and slow recovery. In this situation, I select Expression (CC11) as the target, set the Min Value to 127, the Max Value to 30, the On Rate to 70, the Off Rate to 20 and the Mode to Momentary. Now, when I depress the pedal, the level of the selected zone(s) quickly dip to a bit below the set volume and when I release the pedal, the level gradually recovers. I could do a similar thing to increase the volume of a zone for a solo rather than using a slider, assuming that the volume is not already set at the maximum 127. In this case I have a zone with its volume set to 90. I select Volume (CC07) as the target, set the Min Value to 90, the Max Value to 127, the On Rate to 127, and because I don't want the drop to the original volume to be too sudden, I set the Off Rate to 85 and the Mode to Momentary. Now when I depress the pedal the volume immediately jumps to maximum for the solo and smoothly returns to the preset volume when it is released. I hope you find this explanation and examples helpful.

I made this stage setting for performing Anthem from Chess, hence the name. Slider 6 brings in the Oboe for the intro and bridge and pedal 2 brings in the Orchestra for dynamic emphasis, particularly for the triplets near the end of the piece. Thanks to the author of Kates String for the inspiration and foundation of this stage setting. There are two versions of this stage setting; AnthemOrchV1 and AnthemOrchV2. AnthemOrchV1 has all sliders, except Slider 6, work in reverse i.e. moving them up lowers the value, similar to organ drawbars. This avoids the jump the sudden change in level when a slider is moved from its home position. Since this might seem unnatural for many users, I have made a second version, AnthemOrchV2, that has all sliders expect for Slider 3 (Expression) set to work in the normal mode. The tones are: Zone 1, WarmStrings2; Zone 2, Orchestra; Zone 3, Syn-Strings1; Zone 4, GM Oboe. Controls: Knob 1: Reverb (all zones) Knob 2: Cutoff (Zones 1 & 3) Knob 3: Attack (zones 1, 3 & 4) Knob 4: Release (zones 1, 3 & 4) Slider 1: zone 1 volume Slider 2: zone 3 volume Slider 3: zones 1 & 3 expression Slider 4: zone 2 volume & on/off* Slider 5: zone 4 volume Slider 6: zone 4 on/off Pedal 1: Release (zone 4) Pedal 2: zone 2 on/off *Note: Slider 4 is set to turn zone 2 on or off in case Pedal 2 is not available. If the second pedal is available, I recommend setting Target 2 of the control to No Assign and just leaving the Volume control for the zone. I have included a PDF that details the Stage Setting parameters.

This stage setting is inspired by, and partly based on, Kates String. It is my attempt at providing orchestral variety in one stage setting. Mixing the string tones with Sliders 1, 2 and 3 provides a range of tones from mellow to bright; adding the Orchestra tone from zone 2 gives punch; and brass can be turned on or of as required. I hope you find it useful. The tones are: Zone 1, WarmStrings2; Zone 2, Orchestra; Zone 3, Syn-Strings1; Zone 4, BriteStrings. Controls: Knob 1: Reverb (all zones) Knob 2: EQ High Gain (all zones) Knob 3: Attack (zones 1, 3 & 4) Knob 4: Release (zones 1, 3 & 4) Slider 1: zone 1 volume Slider 2: zone 3 volume Slider 3: zone 4 volume Slider 4: zones 1, 3 & 4 expression (reversed action) Slider 5: zone 2 volume and on/off* Slider 6: zone 1 layer 6 (brass section) on/off and volume. Pedal 1: Soft (all zones) Pedal 2: zone 2 on/off *Note: Slider 5 is set to turn zone 2 on or off in case Pedal 2 is not available. If the second pedal is available, I recommend setting Target 2 of the control to No Assign and just leaving the Volume control for the zone. I have included a PDF that details the Stage Setting parameters.
  4. Actually, you can import the Stage Settings into Set List Maker. If you are a member of the Casio Privia Pro PX-5S Digital Stage Piano Group on Facebook, you'll find my instructions and the Import files in the Files area. If you are not yet a member, please come on over and join us.
  5. Thanks for the speedy fixup Darin! Good work.
  6. There are a few odd control assignments in this…slider 2 is set to DSP Parameter 7 and slider 3 is set to DSP Parameter 3. They are assigned to all zones. The strings on zone 3 have DSP Equalizer assigned, so slider 2 affects the Input Level, which means if it is moved to the 0 position, it overrides the zone volume. The EP on zone 1 has DSP Auto Pan applied, but there is no parameter 7 in that. However, parameter 3 is LFO Waveform, but since slider 3 has its Maximum set to 40, it has no effect. Zone 2 and 3 have no DSP applied, so are not affected. None of this will matter if you never want to use the strings, but knowing the author, I expect this will be fixed pronto!
  7. I totally agree with Brad, Hugh. Love your work :-)
  8. Gee pax-eterna, that last sentence is a bit harsh.
  9. This stage setting looks for a phrase in user slot 103. Unfortunately phrases aren't saved within the stage setting, so it needs to be downloaded and installed. Without the phrase, the SS produces no sound. If there is already a phrase in that position, it can be placed in another unused slot, but you have to select that in with via the keyboard (or Data Editor) and Write the change so that it will stick. The effect is quite realistic, but needs some practice to get the technique right. Nice work Montequi!
  10. Brad, after all this time, I didn't realise that you didn't have an iPad! My personal recommendation is to get an iPad Air, minimum 64GB...and be prepared to fill it with more than you ever imagined you would! :-)
  11. Pax-eterna, as a 70+ year old, I was not at all interested in using Facebook prior to joining the PX-5S Group, even though I had an account set up. I now find it invaluable and the perfect partner to this forum. The forum has a more technical focus and as you already know, there are some extremely knowledgable members, but many of them are also great contributors to the Facebook group. We now have over 1400 members from an ever growing number of countries in the FB group, and we love helping each other (and having lots of fun along the way). Please come and join us...you'll be made very welcome!
  12. I suspect that since this wasn't addressed in firmware updates 1.12 and 1.13, both of which were released after this matter was raised, it is most likely a hardware issue. Unfortunately, no response or explanation has been provided by Casio. Quite disappointing.
  13. BelgianChocolates, download this file using Safari on your iPad and then when it shows "Open in...", choose MIDI Designer. http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/getdownload/1228-privia-px-5s-midi-designer-layouts-iphone-and-ipad/
  14. I can see that you're going to fit in very well in th FB group, Zombie 1210! :-)
