  1. Dave Weiser has released a brand new set of orchestral sounds for the PX-5S, focusing on strings. This features 7 new sounds for strings—Slow, Medium, Marcato, Pizzicato, Tremolo, Solo/Quartet, & Synth. The set can be found on his website HERE. All the demos are on SoundCloud HERE. I had the opportunity to demo a few of the sounds as well—you can hear them in the context of a few famous Broadway musicals to get an idea of how they'll benefit your own mix.
  2. Hey all! Here to show you something big for the PX-5S. Dave Weiser, who has designed sounds for Roger Waters, David Bowie, The Who, and about every theatre show that's been on Broadway, has released a new pair of sounds for the PX-5S. Of course, we all know him for the Vintage Keys Set he made for the PX in late 2013 (and can still be downloaded on Casio Music Forums here), but he has now come out with two brand new piano presets! Basically, these pianos are designed for a number of different applications and genres with the purpose of being "gig-ready". Yes, meaning they sit well in your mix, without getting in the bassist's frequencies, or requiring any extra EQ from the sound guys. Where can you find them? You'll find them, and all the info you need to know on Dave's website, WeiserSound.com HERE. Also, there are some great new demos that were just put on Dave Weiser's SoundCloud, so be sure to check those out! Looking forward to trying these out live!
  3. It's hardly a problem for me; I just thought I'd ask. I have the best synthesizer module - for orchestral sounds - in the world less than a foot away.
  4. This thread was a mistake, and I can't find a delete button. The other thread I started was what I wanted answers for.
  5. I've now had the XW-P1 for a month now, and I really am enjoying it. Even yesterday, I decided I would take short a break from transcribing music to jam on the organ section with loops and blues backing tracks. Two hours later — "Oh crap!" Anyway, here are my questions so far: 1) The Solo Synth: when playing monophonic leads, my sustain pedal seems to not work. What happens is I can play a note, press the pedal, and it will sustain everything that I play after. But when I play a note, and then [slur] or portamento immediately to another note, the sustain pedal will not work. Any reason this should happen and how to disable it? 2) PCM tone: I'm having trouble with a few (only one that I remember right this minute). The PCM tone for "Tremelo Strings" seems to glitch. When you play a note, within a half a second there's a cutting sound, and then it becomes normal. I've tried the L&R outs and headphone out, and this seems to happen on both. Other than that, I've had lots of fun getting into the XW, and I'm looking forward to getting to perform with it a little later on this year!
  6. All you're doing is duplicating your sound, and therefore it's cancelling itself out. The best way to go to a stereo mixer is from the designated RIGHT and LEFT outputs on any keyboard into the designated right and left inputs on the board. There's nothing wrong with doing a hard pan of the sounds, but I usually let the sound guys do that after they have my signals.
  7. Mr. Original Poster, Yes, the sliders serve multiple purposes. Note - the writing above each of them...they line up. These sliders serve as faders for how loud each of the different LAYERS [that make up one sound] are. The top row is the Solo Synth (i.e. Synth1, Synth2, PCM1, PCM2, ect..). Second row is the Hex Layer (i.e. Layer1, Layer2, Layer3, Layer, ect..). Third row is Drawbar Organ (i.e. 16', 5 1/3', 8', 4', ect..). As everyone else has stated, it requires a little time to get used to the architecture. It's a very DEEP and POWERFUL synthesizer. This may seem like a headache, but if you were to say, try Kurzweil's Virtual Analog VAST, you may get an aneurism. Here's a video I highly recommend you watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3-XLtgVVDo. It may seem hopeless now, but you'll eventually get it, trust me.
  8. Okay, lets try this out (I'm by no means a sound designer): Let's go to Solo Synth 3-0 "HiTresMotion". It sounds nothing like "Let's Go," but we can edit it so it can. First, let's edit the RELEASE TIME (by going to Knob 4, and turning the release to about 46). Second, go to the drawbars or sliders, and turn Layer 1 all the way up, 2 all the way down, 3 halfway, 4 all the way up, and 5 and 6 all the way down. Third, go to EDIT, and then scroll down to TotalFilter, then hit Enter. On the first page, turn HPF to LPF, and turn both Filter and Resonance to 64. Scroll to page 3/4, and then turn Env. Retrig ON. On page 4/4 make sure both LFO depths are turned to 00. Now from there you have part of the tone right. I still have to get more familiar with the SOLO SYNTH editing features, because I can't find how to edit the Filter Envelope or Amp Envelope. I'll post back here soon...
  9. The Cars - "Let's Go". I can think of three or four Solo Synth presets that would cover that opening part perfectly.
  10. Listen, I (ME, Kenny Ingram), was the guy that told you that this keyboard is user friendly - because it is. I watched just about every XW video there was on YouTube before I got my XW. I got my XW-P1 yesterday, and right out of the box, was able to do a WHOLE bunch of things. And just a few hours later I was tweaking my own sounds, making performances, ect. Let me make this clear: it's not the keyboard that's the problem, it's just that you're inexperienced with synthesizers. If you go ahead and return the XW, and buy a Roland Gaia, or something else, it's going to be just as painful to learn it. In every keyboard you buy, there's a learning curve - this should be expected. But I think that the XW is one of the easiest to learn. But in terms of presets, you will not find a current synthesizer with more than the Casio. If you're unsatisfied with it, you won't be any happier with what's currently out there.
  11. Hey - what you're looking is for onboard synth presets. What you'll want to do is go to TONE [presets], and depending on if you want a MONOPHONIC synthesizer (one note at a time), or a POLYPHONIC synthesizer (more than one note at a time), you press either SOLO SYNTH (for MONO) or HEX LAYER (for POLY). Those are where you'll find the synth presets you're looking for.
  12. I just have a quick question; I ordered the XW, and it's currently on it's way to my house... In Performance Mode, when switching from one to another, do the sounds cut out, or do they sustain with all their effects? Thanks.
