  1. I did some more digging and what I am basically asking is if the WK has a velocity switch function similar to the one in the P1 hex layer mode. The info on another forum suggests that the WK-7500 doesn't have it, but there is no word about the WK-7600.
  2. Due to the absence of music stores in my area that would carry the Casio brand (call them biased?), the only way for me to find out about these instruments is by reading, watching youtube videos, asking questions, and ordering the product with the possibility to return it if not suited well. I ordered and received both a XW-P1 and a Roland BK-7m module. This says a lot; I am geared more towards the arranger idea of things, having a nice backup playing along; getting things set up and started within mere minutes rather than designing from scratch. Now, I especially rooted for the XW-P1 in my basic setup because of the drawbar organ mode. I am planning to add a second keyboard (manual) down the road plus a midi full sized foot pedal when funds allow. Another nicety about the P1 seems to be the Hex Layer mode and its ability to trigger additional layers of sound based on velocity pressure. On paper, and in practice, this provides full and fat sound if desired, especially suited for soundtrack work, orchestral music, etc. Now, I am not yet completely happy and satisfied with the BK-7m module and its integration into my live performances ( I only perform at home, but nevertheless). On the other hand, there is no alternative to the BK-7m if I want full backup without hooking up PCs and using additional software. The only alternative would be a workstation a la CTK or WK. Both come with the exact same drawbar organ mode as the P1, it does come with plenty of styles and the possibilty to edit them as well as sounds. Now, would this model also be able to layer sounds and trigger them at certain velocity values? Or is this hex layering on the P1 the way to go for full fat sound, etc.? Before one says the Roland module blows the Casio styles out of the water: I wouldn't mind to save some money on my initial investment and rather purchase a second manual or midi foot pedal asap. The Roland is def. a very nice sounding and versatile module, but it comes at a steeper price and it isn't the most user friendly for changes on the fly. Then again, I always could combine a P1 and and a WK/CTK and have some money to spare and just returning the Roland. Anyway, if someone knowledgable about the two instruments could shed some light on it would probably help in my decision making process. Thanks a lot.
  3. So, have been playing around with the P1 a bit. Not yet sure if it is a keeper (for my purposes) or if I should default to a regular keyboard unit a la CTK 7200/7600. Is there a way to not transmit voice/sound changes via Midi when connected and if I want to play with the stationary sounds? Right now I got a BK7m attached to it for accompaniment purposes but each time I change the patch on the P1 some sound gets changed on the BK7m. Thanks.
  4. Thanks BradMZ for your quick reply. That will make it possible then to use it as the center piece. Finally, my Win 8.1 tablet could also see some use hooking it up and run Hauptwerk. Awesome times ahead. Has anybody got some experience which expression pedal will work fine? Casio don't seem to offer any.
  5. Hello forum, My P1 is out for delivery. In some hours I will be back into music making after a 10 year hiatus. I never have owned a synthesizer but was always fond of them. My goal is to build a small home "organ" system on a budget and the P1 seems a good starting point eventually adding a Hammond style foot pedal and perhaps a second keyboard later on. My question to get started is: does the board come standard with an a/c adapter included? The product description does not say if it is included or not. Or did you have to purchase it seperately? Does Midi over USB work? I know it has DIN Midi ports which will suffice for the pedal. But, what if I want to add an expression pedal likewise via Midi? Do I need an extra port (in this case I could use the USB port if Midi is supported via USB). If not, will a Midi-to-USB cable with Midi-thru connections allow to add additional gear? Anything else I should consider? It was kind of an impulse purchase/order last week and the P1 seems just a great starting point to build it into a system with a variety of sonic possibilities. I could be mistaken and perhaps be better off with a dedicated Hammond keyboard or a Tyros but cannot see myself shelving $$$ nowadays for music gear. Once my organ will be complete it will have cost me perhaps $1500 in total. As long as I can connect everything and make it work this way, I am pleased. From youtube I know that the P1 is capable of great sound and that is what counts. If anybody has some food for thought or objections, please let me know. Thanks a lot.
