  1. Mine is used as a 5 octave 2nd board above a px5s, for organ, synth and sample triggering, and it also provides backup at gigs in case of any issues with the px5s - don't use the arranger features at all and would be happy to lose the built in speakers too in order to reduce size / weight even further
  2. You could control the volume of both the piano and strings zones together on one slider, and the volume of the organ on the next slider along (but with the 'high' and 'low' levels reversed), so that when you pull both sliders down the piano and strings fade out and the organ fades up?
  3. I agree - I bought it mainly as a good value piano a few years ago and didn't dig much deeper until I was working on a project which needed a lot of splits, layers and tonal options, and the px5s has been excellent - a future cult classic I reckon. I really hope they don't reduce the flexibility in any future revision as I think it is this which really makes the difference. An mzx500 without speakers but with the px5s's keyboard, knobs & sliders and weight would be a near perfect single board solution for me
  4. There might be other ways, but I think you can save a rhythm and tempo (plus selected tones etc) in a 'registration' - think of it as a snapshot of what settings you have called up. If you edit a hex layer you can save it with any combination of default volume levels - so edit it, turn all the layers up to their max, then save as a user tone. Hope this helps.
  5. Thanks Brad - I think I've read Mike say elsewhere that mz-x500 registrations could not as yet send midi program changes, so perhaps not possible eitherway around, in which case I guess it isn't possible even with additional external hardware? I have ordered one anyway(!), so I guess the best I might be able to do would be to put my stage settings and mzx registrations in the samr order on each board and step through them with button presses?
  6. I've had a look at the mzx500 documentation and can't really understand if I could change registrations via midi or not. I'd be happy if there was another way to achieve the same thing, using songs instead of registrations, or using the mzx500 to set the stage setting on the pxs5. Basically I just want to be able to select the patch for a song on one of the boards and have everything set ready on both, so PX5s stage setting, mzx500 zones, pads, sliders etc - don't really mind which board I use as the 'master' to achieve this. Cheers Pete
  7. I'm a happy px5s owner, and seriously tempted by a mzx500 for a new top board, so am I right in thinking I could do the following? Create a registration on the mzx500, including 4 hex layers and samples assigned to pads, and then call that registration as a midi program change from the px5s? Eg I change patch on the px5s and it automatically pulls the defined patch up on the mz? Sample memory sounds fairly limited at 4 long / 32 short - is quickly loading more from a usb stick viable live? Is there anything else cool I could do with the px5s and mzx500 in combination which I might not have thought of? Assuming the registration / midi patch changes work as I'd need then I'm going to find it hard to resist - the px5s is just so good!
  8. Fantastic - thank you!
  9. Hi there. I've seen the issue around the noise gate, but haven't been able to see whether / where I can set input / output levels for the signals coming in through the line in inputs on the back. Anybody know? Cheers
  10. I've gone for a similar setup from the same place :-) looking forward to delivery
  11. Thanks very much guys, that is just the type of advice I was hoping for. I've joined the fb group and will take a look. @knuckles - have you done anything interesting in terms of combining the 2? I'm interested in seeing how the vr09 piano works when played via the px5s keyboard, but haven't tried it yet.
  12. Any recommendations for stands to use with the privia pro? I need something that will give sturdy support for the px5s at piano seated level, and also arms to hold a 5 octave 2nd tier (only light - roland vr09). Will only be used at home, so portability not an issue. I'm based in the uk, so guess that may influence what options are available to me. Thanks in advance for any advice
  13. Thanks again for your help choppin. Thought I'd share what I've learnt in case anybody else is as clueless as me! In reaper you can assign a midi control 'effect' to your midi track, and load a 'reabank' file into that which then enables you to select the px5s tone you want for that track. The reabank file is available here in the downloads section. So I don't need to store the system mixer settings on the px5s itself as they can be called up from the reaper project.
  14. Thanks again. Any tips on where I can read up on this kind of thing?
  15. Thanks for the help. I'm learning to record midi parts in reaper, which I already use for audio recording. Are you saying that I should be able to get reaper to set the system mixer up as part of a reaper project? So I can maybe get reaper to send a command to the px which says 'set the tone for part 5 to piano1' or something like that?
