    How to create phrases?

When I have the time and get it pretty well figured out I will probably get more indepth into a workflow that I am trying to create on the XW-PD1 but currently it isn’t using the 8 different patterns per sequence. I am still in the process of deciding if to use samples, resamples is what I am currently working with, or phrases for this workflow though it doesn’t have to be one or the other and if I can use both, as well as utilize the 8 different patterns, that will be great. An advantage of a sample or a phrase for this workflow I am working on is that they can be started and stopped at the touch of a single pad and it can be longer than the 1 measure length limit of the XW-PD1 without having to use (the workaround of) multiple patterns in conjunction with one another.

    How to create phrases?

Interesting, I have not even thought about or even gotten far enough into this to think of using a handheld Nintendo, something I do have access to. I have not gotten any further than this but I had narrowed it down to deciding that something on my smartphone would be best as it is always in my possession. An app with a piano roll feature hadn't occurred to me yet either. I think I am going to look for an app with a step sequencer that closely resembles the step sequencer of the XW-PD1 software editor. Hopefully one like this exists. Thanks fellow users of this forum for the enlightenment that I have received in this thread as it appears to be pointing me in the right direction for how I want to proceed!
  3. I don’t have plans on not using the Solo Synthesizer of the XW-PD1 I just don’t really get why Casio included an extremely limited/locked version there of.

    How to create phrases?

I have yet to use the converter as I don’t have any midi files containing phrase data to even do so with currently. My original question still stands though: If phrases can’t be made in the XW-PD1 or using the software editor what do you recommend using to create phrases with? I am once again going to assume something here but I am guessing that since this is CasioMusicForums that some users will just use their Casio Synthesizer/keyboard capable of creating phrases to do so. This isn’t the direction I am looking at going in currently. I am more thinking of a software solution, one that is rather geared toward creating phrases and not necessarily much more than this, if one exists.
  5. I was very excited that the XW-PD1 had the Solo Synth and almost purchased a used iPad while waiting for the XW-PD1 to be released in expectation that the XW Midi Designer could be used with it to control the parameters of the Solo Synth. Since that isn’t the case and it appears that this won’t be changing in the future as there isn’t user files for saving Solo Synth sounds I truly wonder why the Solo Synth is a part of the XW-PD1. As it is, the Solo Synth seems nothing more than PCM waveforms to me but hopefully I can be enlightened otherwise. Currently I am thinking that it would have been more beneficial to have included 100 more PCM Melody waveforms than including the 100 sounds of the Solo Synth. This would have also eliminated the restriction of the Solo Synth only being used in Bank 1 as the PCM Melody waveforms can be used in any of the 4 banks. This isn’t intended to be criticism of the full blown Solo Synth. I was expecting the full blown version in the XW-PD1 and couldn’t wait to tweak sounds on it for hours on end as I think very highly of its flexibility and really like the way it sounds.
  6. I was assuming that phrases could be created internally on the XW-PD1. For the life of me I can’t figure out how to do so. I have now downloaded the software editor in hopes that I could do so using it but am only finding that I can convert already made phrases so that they can be used in the XW-PD1. Am I missing something here? If phrases can’t be made in the XW-PD1 or using the software editor what do you recommend using to create phrases with? Thanks!
  7. As well, is there a way to pan the different parts/instruments? According to YouTube user Three77Sparks there is no way to change the sounds or pan the different parts/instruments. If these two things are the case and are always going to be the case I doubt I will ever get the XW-PD-1's (plural) I was planning on getting. If this isn't the case or isn't always going to be the case I am ready to make my first purchase immediately. Thank you for your reply. PS I enjoyed you, Mike, on the Harmony Central forums, especially the big blow up weekend that you worked overtime there. I think that weekend was the week that the second Motif (Motif ES?) was announced? The specifics of this weekend may be incorrect but I do remember your calm demeanor and overtime presence and respected it.
