  1. What I mean is, if notes/phrases are indeed the same for the MZ-X500 to trigger external hardware drum kits......Can those notes/phrases additionally be sequenced by external hardware? Say I have 2 additional devices a sampler with the drum kit I would like the MZ-X500 (midi phrases) to trigger and separate sequencer that I would like to sequence this notes/phrases with.
  2. Thanks for the clarification Brad. I understand, you must record a midi phrase that will trigger the external midi message you recorded ( 1 note in my wish but certainly not limited to 1 note). Will MIDI phrases cut each other off or overlap and generate sound at the same time? How many individual pads can have a MIDI phrase at once? Does it allow 16 MIDI phrases (1 midi phrase per pad) to be available to trigger simultaneously for performance? Are these MIDI phrases we speak of also able to then be sequenced by external hardware, to trigger the recorded phrases (of 1 note or more) by the sequencing of an external device? .
  3. For $1,100 and it doesn't do that? WOW I am honestly shocked and completely disappointed. I thought I researched this board well and understood its abilities and limitations. I was wrong. This is not another time for, "oh it wasn't designed for that purpose". What I inquired of is basic level MIDI. More importantly, the MZ-X500 is $1,100 and the pads can not trigger external drum kits on other hardware? That completely makes its MIDI functionality useless not only in today's world but even 15 - 20 years ago! Why does it even have MIDI ports? Only to be able to play its sounds with external hardware but you can not record that playing to internal sequencer!
  4. Can the pads on the MZX trigger external MIDI devices? How? Say I would like to trigger individual drums from a kit that is on an external device, could the MZX be set up to do that? Also can I midi sequence the internal sound engines of the MZX by using external hardware midi sequencers?
  5. Could it use a update? Could users just drop a whole folder into it and it utilize some pitch detection to automatically place one shot samples on correct key? So may I suggest a simple "automatic" and "manual" mode. Manual would be how it operates now. Automatic, would be as described above already. I'm thinking since it doesn't record or edit, then maybe it could be less tedious to load samples with this as an update feature.
  6. If there were a full demonstration of the Sample Manager software(Ralph Maten offered a brief overview) that showcased the exact process and possibilities capable when using the entire functions offered, many more users and folks interested would look at the MZ-X500 as a must have piece of gear. I notice a lot of people do not use its full capabilities, folks that don't own are awaiting for price to drop, and some have sold the MZX to fund other boards. It really seems to be good. I've watched its development closely. As a non owner still, I wonder why people (and Casio) have been reluctant to showcase its extensive operation and many possibilities.
  7. And I don't really know what that means.
  8. Here's an in depth take from Keyboard Magazine review of Casio MZ-X500 : Sound editing goes much deeper than I expected in an arranger at this price point: filter cutoff and resonance; amp attack, decay, and release; entry volume, and velocity sensitivity are adjustable per Tone from the first editing screen. Hitting the Advanced icon takes you to even more fine-grained control, including graphical pitch, volume, and filter envelopes. You also get independent and highly programmable LFOs for pitch, filter, and amp (volume). Effects settings are editable per Tone as well, and you can save your creations as User Tones. There’s no “oscillator” editing; any User Tone begins with the multi-sample of some factory Tone. If that makes the MZ-X500 less than a full and true synthesizer, it’s only just barely.......... Now with that in mind, is this saying that - MZ-X500 can further edit user tones which includes tones (.wav samples) loaded from Sample Manager software?
  9. Maybe if the touchscreen was made even more customizable it would help these matters?
  10. Is it simply impossible to upgrade the MZX to have MIDI clock in?
  11. So, the System Track can record all the variations saved in the Pattern Sequencer? This way you do not have to press a chord for playback of pattern sequencer. Once you record the Pattern Sequencer to the System Track, you can continue to build compositions using the 16 track midi recorder that would also playback the System Track for building songs???
  12. I've been surprised by some recent info regarding the Sample Manager. Being able create my own detailed tones is much of the reason I have interest in the MZX. Yet now I've learned that the Sample Manager is extremely hard and may not provide all the resources needed. I actually thought the Sample Manager provided everything except the sample source and actual sampling to create realistic acoustic tones and more. Is this incorrect? What are the actual steps using the Sample Manager that someone would need to follow in order to create a piano tone(which is what I am most interested in) and other keyboard like tones? Could I also try the Sample Manager out although I am yet to own MZX to see for myself? 😟
  13. Thanks for replies. Is it possible to just use another additional controller simultaneously for the remaining available keys beyond 88 - 128?
  14. Thanks so much Brad. I appreciate your help here always.
  15. Brad. I clicked on your link. I then clicked on Manuals. I then selected both the full manual for MZX and the firmware manual V1.40(the highest available) independently. Neither have any information that outlines V1.60 at the end. The only thing in relative options on the site that read, "V1.60", is the actual download itself which is selected by clicking download first then selecting a "download" to download.
