  1. Thank you for explanation, BradMZ. We've already "isolated" the XW to it's USB connection and build another MIDI chain with an extra interface. The XW is great machine anyway after 20 years... Thanx again
  2. addition: I do not connect the 5 pin ports to the computer! this is senseless. For this you would need a separate MIDI interface... and then you do not need the USB connection... I have about 30 synths running in two rooms, some with USB and MIDI (like the XW), and a lot older with "only" MIDI. Don't get me wrong; I'm a Casion fan, I have buyed all professional synths and samplers (CZ1, CZ101, FZ1, 2 x FZ10M, VZ1, VZ10M, RZ1) when they came out...But none of them ever made such a mess connecting to the studio environment.
  3. Hello BradMZ, there is only one possible way to connect MIDI/USB equipment like this: Output :PC <> USB <> XW-G1 > 5 pin MIDI port > external MIDI device....> further devices via MIDI Thru chain (optional) Input: PC <> USB <> XW-G1 < 5 pin MIDI port < external MIDI device 1.) MIDI communication between PC and XW via USB (CASIO USB-MIDI) 2.) MIDI communication between XW and external MIDI equipment via 5 pin MIDI ports (what' the name of this port ?) the problem is that it is not possible to adress a 1.) and 2.) independently with only one port available! It's that simple with studio equipment. If the 5 pin MIDI ports can not be accessed via USB then the MIDI settings parameter of the XW are absolutely senseless. this means: if the 5 pin MIDI ports are not adressable SEPARATELY from the XW synth engine via USB connection then the XW does not provide a MIDI interface for external devices...which is in opposite to the manual. If the XW does not show two ports (CASIO USB-MIDI and "CASIO 5 pin MIDI") for dedicated communication then you can not use the 5 pin ports* * these 5 pin ports are called "DIN Sync"
  4. hello to all, how can I access external MIDI devices connected to the XW's MIDI ports? There is only ONE(!) port available in any DAW: "CASIO USB-MIDI" which addresses the internal synth engine. The manual states that it is possible to use both ways simultaneously - and all the MIDI settings in the XW only make sense when it is possible to use both ports!!! Example: My Venom provides TWO ports in any DAW 1. "Venom Synth" which addresses the internal synth engine accesed via USB 2. "Venom MIDI" In+Out which addresses the MIDI ports on the back of the synth ...simple... How to use the devices connected to the MIDI ports of the XW with the DAW with only the "CASIO USB-MIDI" present? Thank you in advance for help.
