  1. Hi. Thank you for your good suggestions. I tried to do what you said, it seems to work, even though the cutoff range in performance mode is different from cutoff range in hex layer. I managed to do a similar (even though not too much) bassline with cutoff changes as the real song. Unfortunately, the cutoff changes affect all the hex layer tone, not only the bass part (assuming that I did what you said the right way). I think the reason is - as you said before - that what is recorded are the movements of the knob, that affects the whole hex layer tone. I'll study and try if I can do something else. Thanks a lot for your help. Have a nice time. Sim
  2. Hi to everybody. I'm not a synth expert at all, but I own (and like) an xw-p1 since 2014 (except two years). I was trying to make a performance for Depeche Mode Enjoy The Silence. I did the following: - I did an user hex layer with the bass on the lower part of keyboard and the rest of voices on the upper part, obviously each part with a distinct range; - for the bass I choosed the wave number 751 (Sy_TB_Bass1); - I did a phrase for the bass line; on this phrase I recorded also variations on the cutoff frequency, to emulate the bass in the real song. - Using the phrase in Tone mode, with the hex layer patch I created, all work as expected (the cutoff of the bassline changes as recorded in the phrase); Then I started a new performance. On zone 1 - as required - I put my hex layer, with phrase activated on this zone. Then I set up the phrase sequencer for the performance to be active only on the lower range of keyboard (the same range of the bass line in hex layer). I choosed then the phrase I created. for the performance; the phrase plays the line I recorded, but discards the cutoff variations I recorded with the phrase. If I go back to Tone mode, I select the hex layer I created, I select the phrase I created and play it, all works: the cutoff variations are there. Why what works in tone mode, doesn't work in performance mode? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks a lot for your support. Sim
  3. Hi. Only to say that both m audio EX-P (expression pedal, the same shown in a post above) and m audio SP-2 (sustain pedal) are working correctly with my mz x500, upgraded to 1.60 firmware. In both you can change behaviour (polarity). Hope this can be useful. Have a nice day. Sim
  4. I imagined it, even though I think the manual in that part is not clear. On the contrary, you have been very clear. Thank you. Sim
  5. Hi. At page EN-18 of the manual it is written about splitting :"You can also turn each part (Upper 1, 2 and Lower 1, 2) on or off, and change the range of each part. For details, see “TONE Screen” under “Configuring Digital Keyboard Settings (page EN-50)". At page EN-50 I can see only "Octave: Change the range of each part in octave units". That thing transposes the tone in octaves. Coming from an Xw-p1, that has four freely assignable ranges for tones/parts, I thought that the first sentence meant that I can assign two tones to Upper 1 and 2 and, under the Upper range of keyboard, I could assign a different range to each tone. Is it so? To explain better: is it possible to assign a range of keys to Upper 1 tone and a different range of keys to Upper 2 tone (the two ranges not overlapping)? I played the mz x500 for a little time, but I like it a lot; but what is the advantage of having Upper and Lower parts (as Mz x500) versus the ability to split the keyboard in four parts freely as in Xw-p1? I think the second is more flexible. But I'm not a synth/keyboard expert, so my ignorance colud drive me to wrong conclusions. Thank you. Sim
  6. Ok, thank you for your insights. After resetting the p1, if I'll have the same problem again, I'll try to open it. Thanks a lot.
  7. Thank you Chas for your time. I don't have anything connected (both Usb and Midi). The only thing connected is the flash memory inserted on the rear. I'll try to take it out and see if the problem happens. Could be related to a keyboard zone but, as far as I remember, it happened everywhere on the keyboard. It's two days i play the xw-p1 and the problem didn't arise during this time. Since you said that in the USA the problem disappeared, could it be something related to power supply or different voltage and hertz (110v 60hz in USA electrical network vs 220v 50hz in Europe network)? I'm not an electrician, I'm just guessing and reasoning (but with little knowledge). Anyway, thanks a lot again.
  8. Hi. I own an xw-p1 since 2014, I like it a lot, even though I'm not a musician and I'm an ultra newbie to synths. Since the last year, occasionally happens the following thing: while playing, a note drop. I mean: I push the key, and the sound doesn't come out, if single, or one of the sound of the zone doesn't come out, as if I reached the polyphony limit. When this happens, if I use a sequencer's pattern, some notes of the drums disappear or are "chopped". Usually, when this happens, I reboot the xw-p1, and the problem disappears. Usually, but not always, the problem arises soon as I use the xw-p1. I think - but I've got no statistics - that it happens more often when I use directly an hex layer tone or a drawbar tone and the sequencer. But sometimes even with a performance. The strange thing is that is not predictable. I can use the xw-p1 heavily for hours and the problem doesn't arise. Sometimes, I turn on the xw-p1 and the problem is there straight away. I reboot, and the problem disappears, even with the same patch as before. It seems, but i'm not sure, that this problem is very less heavy if I use the synth everyday (as I should do!). If I left the xw-p1 off for some time (one ore two weeks), it seems that it's more prone to the problem. Has the xw-p1 a backup battery, like the pc motherboards? I have firmware 1.11. Since the problem arose the first time, I re-initialized the xw-p1 two or three times. I attach the current configuration of my keyboard, if someone would like to check it for a solution or an answer. Thanks a lot in advance, and forgive my not so clear and succint english. Have a nice day. Sim XW-P1_180408.ZAL
  9. Hi. The same happened to me. I exited the main screen to reach arpeggio button and suddenly all freezed. I had to unplug power supply to reset. I was modifying a registration with a new variation, but nothing that seemed heavy, at least to me. It was a half an hour I was playing around with the mz x500. It could be a memory leak, but only after half an hour of use? I'm not an expert programmer, but could it be something like memory access violation? I'm just guessing. If anyone knows: how much ram has the mz x500? What program language they used for the OS? Just for curiosity. I have firmware 1.50. Thank you. Have a nice day Sim
  10. Hello to everybody. Only a simple question, for which I didn't succeed to find a risolutive answer: the mz x500 has a single arpeggiator for all parts or every part can have its own arpeggio? Thanks a lot. Have a nice day Sim
  11. Ok. Thanks a lot for you help. It's ok I can choose the tone before. Relating to midi, it seems something related to the sequencer I'm using. I used VanBasco (under Windows Xp) and the playback was Ok. If I discover something else I'll let you know. Thanks again. Sim
  12. Hi to everybody. I have a strange issue with my xw-p1. I try to play a midi file with rosegarden and jack in linux - i use a SalixOs, a Slackware derivative. I play a midi file to the xw-p1, but channel 10 is not recognized, and play piano instead of drums (standard set). It seems that xw-p1 is not entering General Midi mode. That file plays ok if I use fluidsynth (a soft synthesizer) or if I plug an Edirol SK500, without doing anything except connect rosegarden to those midi synths. Am I mistaking something? Also: I tried to play midi file from inside an sd card (directory musicdata). When the xw-p1 plays the midi file, I cannot do anything other than listen to it; it seems all blocked. Is it possible to play the xw-p1 while playing a midi file from the sd card? Thank you. Have a nice day.
