Hello from Cosimo. The mz-x 500 can transmit midi note to an external midi software (pc) or hardware if one of its 16 paddles is pressed ?. How to do it? Thank you

From a previous answer I posted:

The answer is 'yes & no' ... The PADs do not send a midi control message, they will send the note on and note off messages for the programmed data they contain. If you could trigger a remote device by a note on-note off signal then you could use the PADs for remote trigger.

Here's an example of what you get on MIDI Out when pressing a PAD ...

TIMESTAMP IN PORT STATUS DATA1 DATA2 CHAN NOTE EVENT
     0003F0C8    1   --     91    42    5E    2  F# 4 Note On
     0003F113     1  --     80    42    71    2  F# 4 Note Off

Yes they can be used as MIDI controllers for just about anything you can think of.  Rick is incorrect in regards to pads only sending note ON OFF messages.  In addition to note data, pads can send a wide range of CC messages, you just need to assign a phrase to that pad that contains control change messages.  Only certain preset phrases contain CC messages, but you can record your own phrases with CC messages, even pitch bend.  For example, you can assign knob 1 to filter cutoff, start recording a phrase, turn the knob and it will record the cutoff messages generated by the knob.   Set that pad phrase to playback on part A-1, hit the pad and you'll get a MIDI output of the filter movement you recorded over channel 1.  Carter wants a specific note from a drum kit on an external device.  Again, simply record a phrase with that note and set the pad to play on part A-1.  It will trigger that note on MIDI channel 1.

  2. I play a variety of genres from Bach to County Swing just for my own satisfaction. I have two instruments that fulfill my requirements 100% - A Casio MZ-X500 and a Korg Kronos 2 - Don't think I'll ever need anything else till I 'shuffle this mortal coil'. 😉 off

It’s all tied up in a tablecloth? I would like to know if it is possible to change the sound card (20,24 bits... ) for a better sound rendering like the yamaha psr 9000 ( korg triton or arranger high-end a warm sound and treated pleasant to the ear both in headphones and keyboard speakers, thank you.

I think the current system is optimized to the internal data width. A 32 bit DAC would be useless if your data is only 16 bits for example.

I live at 'only' 6300' but have 10,000' peaks  to my east and west. 😉  When you first come out here to live, you stumble around a couple weeks until your body compensates for the altitude. 😉

I like the Kronos RH-3 action.  Very piano like. I'm a bit more of an organist than pianist so I still like the 'organ' action on the X500. I use both. 😉

Re: price I paid for my Kronos ... Interesting story. I ordered mine from a dealer that gave me 12 months same as cash. They also offered price matching. The day after I ordered my Kronos 2 another dealer offered the same rig for $800 less. I applied for the price match and got $800 credit to my account. 😉   $3200 instead of $4000 - color me happy camper!

Unless you are an electronics engineer-and mechanical-you will not be able to do this. Every manufacturer has their own circuit designs, and physical construction-might as well try to put a Ferrari engine in a-motorcycle (I've seen almost).

I think Rick is onto something here-I would never thought of that, gee thanks Rick.......what does a Kronos cost 3000? a small price to pay.:chainsaw:

I just had it laying around. 😉 The principle is the same, find a decent controller and use that on the X500.  Much simpler than trying to jury-rig a new keyboard assembly into the machine.

Well, not exactly...but I am Jokeyman. just struck me that this looks like an MZ-X500-in some very twisted way, and if you slant your eyes alot, and have been drinking heavily, and not milk or coffee-well maybe ALOT of coffee and a gallon of energy drink...which I don't recommend. somehow, I don't think this will sound quite as good. it does have sliders-and rubber pads, and a raised console. I'd tell you where I found it, but I'd rather keep it to myself.

Talked to Jeff at zZounds and he said to get the zip code for cphil to him and he would check it out. 😉

For those following this thread. zZounds will not ship MZ-X500 to Canada.

    Dear Sirs,

I own a Casio MZ-X300. At present, assignable knob K1 has got the function "EQ Low Gain" and knob K2 "EQ Mid1 Gain".

Since both functions are of no use for me, I would like to change them to new functions "Keyboard volume" and "Accompaniment volume".

These changes are no problem, but when I switch off the keyboard and switch on again, then original functions "Low gain" and

"MId1 Gain" are still present. In other words, my changes are not stored at all.

Since I do not find any information about this problem in my manuals I kindly ask you for help: How can I permanently store

my new function ?? Thank you for your kind support ! Gottfried Wernig, Austria.

Not sure what the nomenclature is, but I think in the System settings you can tell the system to remember certain settings. Will check.

Interesting, they have a Canadian Flag on that page indicating they will ship to Canada. I'll give them a call and get back. I'm sure you're right Mike.

It is against Casio's contract with zZounds and all other Casio America dealers to ship outside of the USA.

hi Mike, I have been trying since April to find one in Canada. I found 1 store that used to carry it that says it's discontinued. This store and another Casio dealer I called both contacted the Canadian distributor who told them it was no longer available in Canada.  The store that used to carry it is currently trying to find out if it can be special ordered. They have been trying for 2 weeks.

Can you find out how to get one in Canada?

    Thanks.

It's true that there are stores in the USA that have some stock. But most don't ship to Canada and then there are the duties.

It's odd. Sweetwater just ordered some more 2 weeks ago and only received 1 unit.

Also, I notice that the CTX 3000 & 5000 have recently been pulled from the Canadian website. These are new Casio products.

I have heard that there are supply chain issues due to the pandemic.  Is that the real issue with availability in Canada?

    Thanks again.

ZZOUNDS will ship to Canada ... See this page https://www.zzounds.com/item--CASMZX500 - I have no affiliation with them except as a satisfied customer for many years.
