  1. Hello, I'm new to this forum, but not completly new to the px-5s, which I bought in may this year. So I'm using it for 5 month. I use it as replacement for a piano, so nearly all my use is Grand Piano. Just from the begin I have the problem, that the output is not loud enough. It takes some time to realize, that setting - Master setting compression level to 100 would change the situation, but I found it. Ouput level is set to 127. For use with my Shure SRH440 Headphone ( 44 ohms ) this works well. For use with my Kurzweil KS40 Speakers ( 20k ohms input impedance ) this works not quite well. They are still not loud enough. To check weather it is a issue of the px-5s or the speakers, I recorded a wave file to USB, checked it on my notebook and detected, that it was recorded with a extreme low volume level. So I normalized the WAV and replayed it on the PX-5s. Wowh !!! I'd never thought, that the small Boxes have such a sound !!! But whats that ? The PX-5S runs extremly into clipping. Ok. I copied the normalized file to my mp3-player and tested the boxes directly without the px-5s. Sound was good and loud and without any clipping. Now I searched this forum and found the updated File from user Xagerado, which is a real improvement. Piano sound much louder even if the compression level is at 053. At least my questions are: What did he that it works in this way ? Is there a tool where I can compare Stage / Tone settings to see directly what he has optimized ? Is it just a singular setting which I don't found ? Thanks for your help. Bernd
  2. Hi, guys! This is my blind piano sound test Nord Stage 2 VS Casio PX-5S. Where sound is better? Thanks for listening! Hope on your feedbacks. Please, NO SPOILER)

I noticed a performance list file that seemed popular on this site, so I thought I'd put up my list for keeping track of my XW-P1 User Performance List and PX-5S Stage Settings List. It's different from other lists I've seen, as I've changed the structure quite a bit from the original set. If you have 2 synths like me, it may come in handy if you edit this with your settings... especially if you have the XW and PX. Its an Excel file.
  7. I am using the PX-5S to record piano for a session. During playback the control messages aren't being received by the keyboard while the notes are playing. I am using Cakewalk Sonar X3 on a Win 8.1 PC. I am utilizing the USB connection. If I look in the piano roll view, I can see the CC64 messages. If I load up a soft-synth piano, the sustain works. I've tried using MIDI out from my audio interface instead of USB with no change. I verified that the system settings are set to allow control changes. So, what am I missing?
  8. Hi everyone. I have been looking at adding the PX-5s to my rig and was wondering if a few functions were possible. 1. Is it possible to send a program change to an external module by selecting a stage setting patch? (This is very important for me) 2. I want to trigger a particular midi/zone fron an external keyboard. For example I have a Hammond SK2. I want to use the bottom manual to play a sound from the PX-5s while the actual PX-5s' keyboard is playing something different. I do this now with my Yamaha S90ES. 3. I see that the PX-5s has an instrument input. Does that input share any of the onboard effects? If so, does it have a way to route it's own effects? On my S90ES I have dedicated effects for the audio input. It would be nice if this worked similarly. 4. On the S90ES there is a brass patch called sForzando. It has a great cresendo swell. Is it possible to adjust a brass patch on the PX-5s to recreate this effect? Thank you. I really appreciate any feedback on this.

  10. Has anyone had any luck building some good ambient stage settings on the PX-5S? I'm trying to write in the vein of Sigur Ros, Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Tycho, etc., and I would really like to build some cool ambient stage settings. Anybody have one they can share, or have any tips on building my own?
  11. Hi, Hope your'e doing great... I have a a small 49 key midi keyboard (roland A49) and I'd like to attach it to the PX-5S via midi and assign a different tone from the PX-5S tone library. For example I need to have a piano tone on the PX-5S and an organ tone on the midi controller on the stage. How do I do this? I would really appreciate your help...
  12. So i just bought my Casio PX-5s and I am having some trouble loading patches that i downloaded from this website. I have them all in the left list (PC user data files) but when i drag them over into the instrument list it asks if I want to replace stage setting already on the piano. I'm worried that means I will be overwriting stock sounds/settings which I definitely don't want to do. I was hoping there would be a seperate section for me to drag these custom patches or stage settings. Yes i have read the editor manual btw. Page 16 onwards was helpful but still didn't enlighten me on this matter. I guess I don't understand the interface too well yet. Any help would be appreciated Michael
  13. https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=vpPXYKy-lCo You might enjoy this......mixing the old and the new. Remember that despite all its programming capabilities, there is no better way to feature the PX-5S is to play it live. The instrument stands on its own as one of the best for live performance and many of the programming and subtle change capabilities are already done for you out of the box. More coming. Tom Piggott
  14. Hi all, I recently got a px-5s (Holy crap what an amazing instrument, but I'll save my praising of for somewhere else. Now back to the question), and I want to hook up my xw and my ipad to them. I have connected the ipad alreadythru both the usd and midi ports and the audio in I'm sure its the same for the xw. My question is how do I make them a part of a stage setting? For example, I would like to put the sound of the audio in in zone 3 (or any for that matter). Also can I make the audio of the stereo ins and the 1/8 in two different zones? Right now it plays throug what ever zone I'm on as long as its on. And finally, would it be possible to call up a stage setting (that I set up) that will change the tone on the xw? Thanks

  18. Hey guys I have a question. Does the Casio Privia pro px5s have any way to create and play drum loops? I am asking this because our band does not have a drummer and i would like to get a keyboard that could play drum loops for some of the songs we do. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
  19. I just got a PX-5S a day ago. I haven't hooked it up to my computer yet, but I was thinking that I'd like to build a stage setting for harpsichord, to expand upon the 2-3 built-in patches for harpsichord sounds that exist. Harpsichords normally have up to four ranks of strings: 16', 8', 8', 4'. Much like organ stops, that means 8' is at exact pitch, 16' an octave lower, 4' an octave higher. Usually, 16' and 8' are playable separately or coupled on one manual, and then 8' and 4' are playable separately or coupled on the other manual. Optionally, manuals can be coupled together, making it possible to double the 8', combine 16' and 4', or any other combination. (Though it's physically hard to play when all four ranks of strings are engaged.) In addition, some harpsichords offer a lute stop, which dampens the strings, resulting in a more lute / guitar-like sound. Others have a "nasale" stop, which imparts a more nasal tone (not sure how this works, as I haven't seen an acoustic harpsichord with these). So then I got to thinking: what can hex layers do with this? I was thinking that mapping the 6 sliders could control volume levels of the following: 16' (harpsichord patch played an octave down) 8' (manual 1) 8' (manual 2) 4' (harpsichord patch played an octave up) 8' lute (tweak harpsichord patch envelope/settings for more guitar-like sound) 8' nasale (tweak harpsichord patch envelope/settings for nasal tone) And then it would be possible to "couple" these by adjusting relative levels of the sliders, resulting in more flexibility than a real harpsichord. Since I'm new to this keyboard, maybe this reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of how it works ... but is something like this do-able?

  22. Hey guys I am looking at getting a couple good Di boxes for my px-5s (countryman, radial) but i am not sure whether I should get a Passive or Active Di. Does anyone have any opinion or preference of what works or sounds better with the px-5s? the specific active di i am looking at is the JD48, and passive JDI. thank you!
  23. I got a problem on my Casio PX-5s. I can't find the split function on my piano. I just want to putt a specific sound on the right part of the piano and an other on the left part. I don't find anything in the tutorial and on the internet. Does anybody can help me please? Please, forgive my english, I'm french. Thanks to all!
  24. Is their a way to assign tone settings to a control knob or fader or am I missing something? For instance I want to be able to control the LFO amp rate so I can use it for a synth lead. Also how do you change the name of a bank like autoclav 1 how would I edit that, (and i am not talking about renaming the tone) without using the computer data editor. Thanks for any help you can give! Cheers!
