  1. I was looking over the list of waveforms for the Solo Synth (p.10 of the appendix manual) and see the usual waveforms (sine, triangle, square, sawtooth), but each one has three variations - the waveform itself, then -L and -B. This is true of the XW-P1's native waveforms, plus the ones sampled from other synths (such as the CZ waveforms). But what do these -L and -B suffixes mean? When would you use one vs. the others?
  2. So I hinted at this a little while ago, it is a little closer to being real. I'm still going to be vague for a little about it because we're still working with the app developer but this completely changes the XW's Solo Synth in my opinion. The types of sounds you can get in just moments and in real-time is quite remarkable, so this is both a performance and editing tool for the Solo Synth. It also gives the XW-P1 the ability to manipulate the the Solo Synth the way the XW-G1 does and more. It works identically on the XW-G1. More details asap.
  3. Hi all, I recently got a px-5s (Holy crap what an amazing instrument, but I'll save my praising of for somewhere else. Now back to the question), and I want to hook up my xw and my ipad to them. I have connected the ipad alreadythru both the usd and midi ports and the audio in I'm sure its the same for the xw. My question is how do I make them a part of a stage setting? For example, I would like to put the sound of the audio in in zone 3 (or any for that matter). Also can I make the audio of the stereo ins and the 1/8 in two different zones? Right now it plays throug what ever zone I'm on as long as its on. And finally, would it be possible to call up a stage setting (that I set up) that will change the tone on the xw? Thanks

A set of leads and basses programmed by Jerry Kovarsky and Mike Martin for the XW-P1 and XW-G1.
  5. I shouldn't have watched that video with Mike Martin demonstrating the Midi Designer iPad app! That triggered GAS / retail therapy, and I just ordered one! Finding the XW-P1 on sale for $399 also influenced my decision. Though I already have the PX-5S, I like the idea of real-time knob-twiddling on the iPad with the XW-P1. That and the PX-5S doesn't have a 9-drawbar organ mode. Off to download manuals, firmware, editors, patches, etc. while I wait a week for it to get here...

It is so easy to be inspired by the Minimoog. Such as classic design and sound that is still sought after today. While being a digital synthesizer, the XW-series can do a pretty remarkable job of mimicking those classic Moog sounds. The Minimoog had 3 oscillators plus a noise generator and although the XW has a 4th oscillator in its Solo Synth engine - all of these sounds were crafted with the original in mind. A set of 10 Leads and basses, the specialties of the Minimoog. Separate versions above for the XW-P1 and XW-G1. Note that by design, some of the bass sounds will only function in the bottom three octaves of the keyboard. http://youtu.be/8XG5zQ9_lw8
  7. If you're on a Mac computer and want to update your XW to the latest firmware, please take note. Apple's GateKeeper security will claim the the firmware updater file is corrupt. You have to disable this feature before downloading the file from the Casio website. After you've done the firmware update you can return the Gatekeeper back to it's default setting. For more information on Gatekeeper, please see this article. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5290

  11. To day I have tried to update the firmware on my XW-P1 that I LOVE - what a instrument . But I get problems with the update. I downloaded that who should be the new 1.11 update from 18.12.2013 from Casio support site (see pic0). I turned of my AntiVirus software before I start downloading and followed the instructions one the same page. At step 5 in the instructions I get problems: When I "Double-click the update program" I get following error message: "XW-P1 Updater.app" is damaged and can't be opened. It should been moved to the Trash Bin (see pict1 - its in Swedish). When I open the info panel for the XW-P1 Updater.app in Finder, it says that the file is last changed the 28 may 2012 (see pic2). Is this really the newest firmware of this file? I restarted my Mac and XW-P1 and have tried 5 more times before I write this Topic. What is wrong? Is there someone that can help me? Thanks in advance /MigthyThor

This is an Excel Spreadsheet that you can use to easily sort, filter and find tones on the Casio XW-P1. The important columns are as follows: Column A = Preset or User Column B = Group Name Column C = Bank - Number Column D = Tone Name Column F = Program Change Column L = Bank Select MSB This may speed you up if you are trying to pick the perfect sound inside of Sonar or another program using the Instrument Definition Files.

This is a modified Cakewalk Sonar Instrument Definition File for the Casio XW-P1. It will allow you to access all of the sounds on the XW-P1 from inside of Sonar, Cakewalk, Reaper, or any other program that uses the .INS instrument definition file format. In this revision I added bank 100 (User PCM Melody) and bank 125 (User Drums) to Mike Martin's V 0.5 Instrument Definition File. Now we can access 100 more user tones (piano, strings/brass, guitar/bass, synth and various) and 10 user drum kits.
  21. Hi all! Great forum! Last week i bought my new (and first, being honest) synthesizer, the Casio XW-P1, so wandering on the internet, I found this awesome forum! I'm new to synths, so I'd like to get some advices about it! Let's get to the point. I've got the drum base, I've reached a good result on the pad sound, but being a beginner, I cannot even get close to the intro synth sound of the Farewell tour (2004) that would go the extra mile, so any suggestions? This is the youtube video I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUu7QdFBptg Thank you so much! (And forgive my english, I'm an italian casio fan!)

  23. Here is something I did using the XW-G1 but the same thing could be done using a XW-P1. Nothing is pre-recorded. This is all done live using the Step Sequencer and the Phrase Recorder. Also utilizing the iPad apps NAVE and iMS-20.
