  1. Hi all, I finally got round to uploading another of my XW demo tracks. This also uses both my XW-P1 and G1. Enjoy! https://soundcloud.com/twilight_dissidenthero/satellite
  2. Dear XW users, I have to tell you that the best i ever seen on YouTube about the XW series are the video's of Funnzy or martinhornmusic.com https://www.youtube.com/user/funnzie/videos. Look for the XW video's. These video's are just unbelievable information for the XW user! Don't know if this genius is among us here but it is a must to see those video's. Thanks mister Funnzy! Regards, Frank
  3. File Name: GrooveBox 1.ZSS File Submitter: Rusty Krash Baxter File Submitted: 29 Aug 2015 File Category: XW-G1 NOTE: The website would not let me upload the step sequence with the correct extention of .ZSS, I had to change it to .ZSQ to upload it. So if you download it you will have to change the file extention from .ZSQ back to .ZSS the correct file name extention. Description: This is the StepSequence with a new user configuration called GrooveBox 1. I had an issue using the XW-G1 factory settings for the StepSequencer as a groovebox. The issue is I want to use the sliders to turn the parts on & off with all drum parts and the bass guitar part on the same group of sliders. The factory setting has the kick drum on slider 8 in the first set of sliders (1-8 sliders) and the other drum parts on 9-12 sliders and the bass guitar on part 13. So I created a new user step sequence configuration with the parts moved around a little. I moved the kick drum from slider 8 (part 8) to slider 13 (part 13), the bass guitar from slider 13 (part 13) to slider 14 (part 14), and solo 1 from slider 14 (part 14) to slider 8 (part 8). I could not change the part names. The part 8 is still named "Drm1" even though it is now "Sol1", part 13 is still "Bass" even though it is now "Drm1", and part 14 is still named "Sol1" even though it is now "Bass". Instructions for use: 1. Press the "STEP SEQUENCER" button 2. Press the "SELECT" button to select sliders 9-16 3. Create a sequence by turning the buttons off & on for the parts 9-16 as usual 4. While playing the sequence, Press the "MIXER" button to bring up the mixer menu and make sure "Part" is selected so the sliders turn on & off the parts. Slider up turns on the part & slider down turns off the part Click here to download this file

  6. Hello, How are you? I share with you some samples created with the CASIO XW-G1 after a long period of inactivity in this forum. The use of the XW-G1 is different from everything known and that makes it special. The XW-G1 really is a beast disguised as a foolish sheep. It offers an infinity of wonderful things. It is a jewel in the world of synthesizers and electronic music. Greetings and have a good day. Thank you. 80 A ring tone lo-fi Future PUM BUM yeeeeaa The banjo of the beast The cheerful machine The Walker The wandering whistle Tranquility
  7. I don´t know if there are too many bands using our toys, but i found out about this on recently, and i think you would like to see it
  8. Its been something like two weeks ago since I've noticed it I couldn't believe my eyes, But after a week has passed it became true there it was the XW-P1 and Thomann is selling them again after a long absent that could mean they might do the G1 also which I favor but.....Will I settle with the P1 with its step sequencer as an extra addition. So here I'm piercing the site like an eagle if a chance happen or perhaps do a quick order but winter NAMM is so close and the GAS feeling is starting to overwhelm me .
  9. Iv'e notice something which seems odd to me actually I don't understand it at all. It considers sampling and the use of the equalizers I've notice the change made realtime if using the low , mid , mid2, high EQ as movement with the phrase sequencer it won't get recorded in the sampler but if you play the sample and phrase sequencer the effect of movement gets played. This make the EQ seems as a global function and can't be routed independently or recorded into the XW sampler. Also the case when used in performance the value's can still be the last one used when switching from performance to performance I'm curious if anyone has some insight if the EQ is at the end of the output of things.
  10. No no noo my XW is behaving strange on me buttons are not acting screen is jumping functions on every button action, Me think its slowly giving its last breath, I have to operate it or send it out for recovery before it plugs itself out.
  11. I've had about a week playing with the XW-PD1, and I'm having a blast. It's limited, but a bunch of fun. One thing that seems like it would be a pretty obvious feature, but I can't see anything about - does anybody know if there's an easy way to switch octaves? I found the method to edit the pitch of each individual pad, but apart from the key shift function, I can't see any way to easily shift the entire padset at once up or down an octave. Many thanks!
  12. I find so now and then something that strikes me once in a while on the XW with an "oh" The DSP been on my exploration list for a long while because well there seems like there are two DSP but you only get to use one where the other is for dual usage like ""FlangReflection". "The way I came to understand where it does it like that." The XW controls the DSP FX differently in each of its mode when in tone mode but it also mixes the tones differently in each of its modes for an example. I've given an edited Clav tone a DistPan and saved that compare it to the same clav DistPan in performance mode (with EQ off) in tone mode the sound presence would be kinda mild soft tone where in Performance a non edited tone get full presence in the sound its like monaural vs stereo. Edited tones used in Performance mode also have a different sound presence, Actually in performance an edited tone sounds less full then one that isn't in performance mode. an edited tone will sound exactly the way as it is in tone mode while being used in performance mode. So in performance mode the XW gives two different sounds from exactly the same tone that seem to be processed differently by the matrix mixer. It gives a different perspective to how patches can be build with edited tones though. So I went further in the rabbit hole and dug deeper to see how much a difference there is while mixing edited and non edited tones together in performance mode. For instance when an edited tone DSP parameter is set to on and used in performance mode all the parameters will be maintained except the DSP (there is only one DSP to use) so all sounds will use that DSP setting. But there those edited tone get the same full presence you also get with non edited tones in performance mode. Well that is odd so there is less presence with edited tones in performance if you don't set their DSP on. But if you do their presence sound full as the non edited ones. That got interesting cause now I can use a DSP effect to concatenate a full sound presence while still having the other tone parameters like ADSR time , Vib settings fixed as I wanted them. I can change those by setting the knobs to that particular #CC whahahaha. <-(*thats me having fun *). Well that journey got interesting I dug into the XW and it showed me what its sonic capable off. The practice I got doing this serves me well in digging deeper in my other synths such as the PX5S the more I learn to know the faster I can build something.
  13. Over the last year or so Casio has revamped their entire digital piano line apart from the PX-5S (which is now looking a bit old fashioned beside all of its touchscreen-endowed brethren) and most recently its arranger line (the MZ-X models). Besides a true successor to the PX-5S (the PX-560 isn't quite that) that leaves the XW line, which is now more than four years old. That's a pretty long shelf life for any product. I happen to think a successor (or two) is overdue. So what will it be like when it does finally arrive? I don't have any inside track to what is going on at Casio. But I do have a sphere made of glass bequeathed to me by a long dead great grandfather rumored to have lived with the gypsies. (Cue sound of crystal ball activating. You say you've never heard such a sound before? Use your imagination.) It'll be mainly blue - that nice (IMO) metallic blue of the PX-560 and the MZ-X500 - with black and silver accents; very professional looking. At least one of the models (if there IS more than one) will come with a 76-key keyboard. The keyboard will STILL not have aftertouch. (😢) It will have at least as many knobs and sliders as the current XW models, although I hope for more knobs. It will have a 5.3-inch color touchscreen (easy guess there!). It won't have speakers but it may/should have the "iPad" shelf. (That was a seriously good idea, however unbalanced it made the instrument look.) It will accept a foot-switch and an expression pedal (another easy prediction). It will also have touch pads like the ones on the MZ-X models, although how many is anyone's guess. Let's say at least eight. Sound-wise, it will have the newest Hex Layer engine that is in the MZ-X500. Maybe even an improvement on that (such as allowing PWM or sync between oscillators under certain conditions, but that's just wishful thinking). It will also have the improved drawbar organ of the MZ-X models. Actually, the drawbar organ will be even better - there will be no need to buy a Ventilator or a Burn to get an authentic B3+Leslie sound. (That might be true already of the MZ-X models. Dunno.) All the PCM tones from the MZ-X500 will be included, complete with articulations, and many more. The XW solo synth will be beefed up to rival the best virtual analog synths in sound quality, largely free from aliasing and the zipper artifacts caused by insufficient calculation precision. Casio has evidently learned a lot in four years about virtual filter and oscillator design. It will have the XW's step sequencer as well as the MIDI recorder (16-track linear sequencer) found in MZ-X models and the PX-560 and they will be able to work together or otherwise be integrated (somehow!). It will have an audio recorder feature. It will of course have the programmable arpeggiator. It will still have a phrase recorder - that's mucho useful, even given the sequencers. Here's the risky guess: One or both models will include sampling capability, even better than what is in the MZ-X500 (which, AFAIK, is the same as the sampler in the XW-PD1). You won't have to decide between having Hex Layer and drawbar organ (P1) versus sampling (G1) - you'll get it all. Oh, and it will have a street price of not more than $799. Oops, maybe I went too far! 😱
  14. After 3.5 weeks away in the USA, I returned to the UK with a bump on Wednesday 16th. Thursday 17th, guess what was one of the first things I did? Yes, of course, fired up my XW's as I'd missed playing around with them whilst I was away from home! And I was surprised again at just what the XW's can do. I've owned my P1 for over 18 months, and my G1 for about 7 months, and STILL I keep finding new things that I can do with them. As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'd struggled to get to grips with the filter for anything other than the monosynth. In the end, I almost wrote it off for anything other than use with the monosynth, and was campaigning for Casio to update the XW's with a genuine analogue filter(s). One of the main reasons for this is that when I tried using the filter with other XW sections (non monosynth) the results were far from pleasant. However, I think I now know why. Firstly, when using the "filter all" function, one zone needs to set to a mono synth sound for the filter to work. The type of sound selected is important, as if it uses a really harsh/ screaming filter, it will affect the sound of any other section going through. I was looking for a nice, pleasant sounding sweep of a lush pad, so I chose a gentle mono synth sound in one zone, and a polysynth PCM sound in another. NOW I could get the sweeping, lush, poly sound that I was after - tweaking the cut off and resonance knobs now sounding great! You lose some of the stereo effect of the sound (I think it resorts to mono), but hey, a Jupiter 8 was mono too (other than the chorus effect I think), so if it's good enough for the Jupiter 8... Then I found further tricks you can do. With one zone set to a monosynth bass and the other zone set to the polysynth sound, I enabled the arpegiator for the bass and had a cool little bass riff running. I stuck in a simple drum pattern in the step sequencer, hit the 'hold' button and let the pattern loop whilst tweaking the cut off and resonance. Now I was getting some great sounds and that classic sweep. And then I was finding that as I lowered the cut off, I was getting a lovely 'choppy' rhythmic effect on the polysynth sound, in sync with the bass and drums. But there's more (!) By adjusting the DSP settings, it's possible to select which sections go through the filter. My first attempt had the filter sweeping EVERYTHING, drums, bass and polysynth. But by adjust various DSP settings to '+/-' (instead of 'On'), I was able to get the filter to only affect the bass and polysynth sound whilst leaving the step sequencer drums unaffected. My experimentation has been a bit hit of miss at the moment as I'm not 100% clear on what exactly I am doing, however, the findings are opening up yet more possibilities and capabilities of the XW's. More importantly, it is sounding GREAT! Last night's experiments were done on my G1, and I'm sure the same could be achieved on the P1 too. I also realised why I was struggling with my first attempts at using the 'filter all' function on my P1. The limitations are that (I believe this to be correct), you cannot 'filter all' the Hex Layers or Drawbar Organ sections. You need to have a monosynth sound selected, and you can only have one of the Monosynth, Hex or Drawbar sounds at anyone time, even with multiple zones. That does mean that all the PCM and samples can be routed through the filter, so there are still many opportunities for new sounds and effects to be created/ filtered! Luckily for me that I have both a P1 and a G1, so I can leave the P1 to give me the excellent Hex Layer sounds, and do all my filter tweaking with PCM/ Sample sounds on the G1. I guess as well you could take the sounds from the P1 and route it through the G1's filter if you really wanted to. For now though, I feel I've discovered yet another dimension to the XW's. Perhaps others will tell me that they knew of these filter effects all along and I've just been a bit dense in working my XW's (ahem!) For now though, I'm having great sonic fun, and that's what the XW's are all about!
  15. I've finally taken the plunge and uploaded one of my tracks to Sound Cloud. As many of you know, I moved over to the USA and my gear is still stuck in the UK. I didn't have much of a studio set up as I was in a state of flux back in the UK with a pending emigration overseas, though I did manage to record some live takes/ ideas I had with my Casios before I left for the USA. These were never meant to be more than sketches, just to get the ideas in my head down before I forgot them. The intention was to always re-record them properly, properly sequenced, multi-track recorded and mixed. Then I would put them up on the usual places (Sound Cloud, YouTube etc.) and see if anyone liked them. As my return to the UK to arrange shipping of my gear is taking much longer than planned, it's going to be a while before I get my gear over to the USA and can set up my own studio again. As I feel some of my live takes sounded OK considering my rudimentary keyboard playing, well, why not put some of them up for others to hear? So I did! Here's the first track, using both my XW-P1 and XW-G1. Played live and recorded in one take, straight to DAW via a mini Behringer mixer. I hope some may enjoy it

  19. Beside a few other stuff I hope the next XW would have an audio-interface through the usb that connect for a daw.
  20. The many sound sculpting and function in the XW synth can be edited and even after these many moons have passed since I've gotten my G1 synth its simple parts even get me by surprise. I've always used the standard form of the DSP , Compression , Flanger , Delay and such and in the beginning tried the hard way by changing them with General CC messages. Which didn't give the full or fixed spectrum for usage but still workable. First time got frowns how they made sounds well sound like for instance delay 1 to 5 subtle changes holding single notes would let the effect apparent by releasing the note. As well with chords. The impression was that it would go on while the notes where played on hold. Frankly a great deal of the DSP feels like an after though when applied to tones the tones rise and then the DSP kicks in. Some of the DSP are an exception like Pan , Distortion etc. Still considering the way one could do sound designing it could works well into an advantage in sound sculpting and that what I did. But to apply those advantage one needs to program the desired effect by editing an DSP store it and later us multi-key to switch between several DSP. Many way's to accomplish using DSP's. One thing that surprise me while building a performance patch was when using DSP compression on two tones but I did not realize to have selected this also for channel 10 which Ive used for hi-hats. While playing with both patches founding it odd like hey the hi-hats are getting quieter if I play something. And get louder again when I stop playing notes. Now I had a new thing to use when I'm going to build a patch how powerful is that even for Step Sequencing, With a solo-synth patch its a no-brainer but to expand on that is even greater. I wont go into the process of doing that and spare you guys on that part it simple to set it up but getting the desired DSP chain is another thing but purely in a sound design sense. Its pretty remarkable there are Pro's and Con's to the DSP like to much and and it sounds like digitized metal ringing or the flangers a bit sounding like a ping pong fixed at one point in a plane field. But depending on usage can give a rewarding sense of accomplishment when creating a specific sound set. Managing wise one file for all those changed parameters for tones , dsp , arpeggio would be a first though addition giving room to countless sound or performances making.
  21. Here's some patches I made. 3 are hex layer patches and 1 is a solo synth patch. They're seperate user bank patches so you don't need to "Load All" just to load them onto your synth - you can load them one at a time. One of them is a dubstep "wub" kind of patch but it's a digital pulse wave so it doesn't really "wub" as much as cycle up and down sharply. You can control the speed of it with the mod wheel. The pitch bends at the very bottom notch of the mod wheel range, though. There's one that sounds like the one from NIN's "Suck", another that's crippled and crusty sounding and the effect varies from note to note. I forgot what the 4th one is but they should be a lot of fun to play with. I use them in my own music but I don't care if you use them in your music, too. No copyright bs or anything like that. Doesn't bother me. Post here and let me know if you like them or not - I'm excited to hear what everyone thinks of them! XWP1MaikuPatches.zip
