Hello I see there are a lot of song-ready stage settings for the PX-5S, but not so for the XW-G1 😮 So, here's my take at making a song-ready performance/step sequence for the XW-G1 to make up for that imbalance. This my first attempt at doing so, and what you have here is perhaps a bit preliminary in the sense that it isn't complete. However, this is just the first "draft". If you like it, please tell me - and I might improve it at some point I have included 3 files in this upload: BILLIEJE.ZPF - Performance File BILLIEJ5.ZSS - Step Sequencer File and Billie Jean by Michael Jackson for Casio XW-G1.WAV - Sound Example (in the perfomance, the step sequence is placed in U: 2-2) (in the Sound Example I play the melody on my PX-5S) Cheers! Jay 🎹

Hey For fun I sampled some drum sound from my CT-370 to my XW-G1, and made a sequence aswell. In this upload, I've included four files: CT-370 Drums Sequence.wav - an audio file for demonstration purposes CT-370__.ZPF - a performance file that links every thing together CT-370__.ZSS - a step sequencer file CT-370_D.ZWT - a user wave tone Once loaded, the performance lets your play five sampled drum sounds from the keyboard: C2 - Bass Drum 2 C# - Rim Shot E2 - Snare Drum F#2 - Closed Hihat 1 Bb2 - Open Hihat 1 You can use Knobs K1-K4 to adjust the internal equalizer too. The step sequence has currently four different patterns that all make use of the sampled drum sounds. You can hear it in the wav file. Notice: The performance file expects the user wave tone to be placed in slot 209 and the sequence to be placed in slot 3-7. Enjoy! Jay 🎹

  4. A short video featuring four Casio keyboards in concert - if you will. I made it with inspiration from some other videos that have been posted on this forum - as a "proof of concept" or just as an experimental video, really. Jay 🎹
  5. I can't get my XW-G1 to accept the firmware update 1.10. On the PC, I get the Not Connected message. On the Mac, I get a message telling me to hook the keyboard to the PC and hit OK. I don't have any problems with the Data Editor. It sees the XW-G1 and works perfect.
  6. Here's a piece I dug up from my memories. Memories about a song I made on my Amiga 500 computer when I was a teen. What you hear is freely derived from this song. For this recording I have used my 3 Casio keyboards: PX-5S playing "Deckards Lead", XW-G1 playing "StringsVoice" and finally the CT-S1 delivers "Stage Piano". Add to that some effects Tip: Try listening with your eyes closed. Jay 🎹
  7. Here's something new I am working on. Perhaps inspired by the "Regeneration" video Mike Martin made ? Anyhow, I just had fun fooling around with my three Casio keyboards - to see if I could combine them, I guess. Making no promises, I might make it into a finished song Jay🎹

  9. Hi 🙂 I made this user-sequence for a song that I want to play with the sequencer playing drums, bass and chords. This setup i've made makes use of all 8 patterns in the sequencer. However, when I play the sequencer patterns, or to be more precise, when I jump from pattern 4 to pattern 3 there's a noticeable break or pause in the playback of the sequencer data. It annoys me greatly since I spent quiete some time to program the sequencer. Why is it doing that? It seems that on it does this break everytime it reaches the third beat of the measure in pattern 3. I tried to disconnect any other instruments/devices connected through MIDI, in order to see whether that made a difference. It does not. So I looked closer at the trackparameters of pattern 3. The different parts have different values in the parameters step size and notelength: Drum parts 1 and 2 have 1/16 note values as step size and a 99% notelength. Drum part 3 and 4 have 1/4 note values and a 99% notelength. Drum part 5 has 1/16 note values as step size and a 99% notelength. Bass part 6 has 1/16 note values and a 100% notelength In pattern 4 the bass part 6, for instance, have 1/4 note values and a 50% notelength - for the sake of programming the bass line. So, I guess my question is - does these varying notevalues (stepsize) and notelengths in a pattern and between to patterns create this break in the playback that should not be there? Thanks! Jay🎹
  10. Hi. I have aquired a used XW-G1 Synth that's missing a small black plastic handle on one of the sliders. Is it possible to back-order this? 🤔 Jay 🎹
  11. Hi 🙂 My XW-G1 has firmware version 1.10 In the official casio description of the update from version 1.10 to version 1.11 the explanation goes like: [Firmware Update] XW-G1 - Version 1.11 Supported Models XW-G1 Improvements Provided by This Update Version 1.10 >> Version 1.11 • Improved operation of the external part volume. • Improved certain operation. That doesn't give me many clues as to what I gain from this update??? 🧐 Reading on this forum the experiences of others, who updated their keyboard, I understand that there is a risk of "toasting" the keyboard, making it useless - IF the update proces is done incorrectly. I don't want that to happen to my precious little synth 😬 So, should I stay (safe) with 1.10 and forget about the update to 1.11? Or is it (= read: firmvare update version 1.11) just something I can't live without? 🤩 Jay🎹
  12. Here's an improvisation i did after spending the whole day getting to know my newly aquired XW-G1. 😄 In this session I use the XW-G1 for backing and a PX-5S for melody. I am using the stage setting "4Draw Organ" on the PX-5S and the sequencer on the XW-G1 is set to "Funk D&B". It's a raw take - no mastering whatsoever. I had so much fun doing this! 😊 Jay 🎹
  13. What Pedals work with the XW-seriesCasio SP-20 Casio SP-3R Pedals from Kurzweil and Korg also work as well as the switchable M-Audio, Roland and Yamaha will not. Can I used the Solo Synth and Hex Layers, or Drawbar organs at the same timeNo, only one of them can be used at a time on Zone 1.
  14. File Name: GrooveBox 1.ZSS File Submitter: Rusty Krash Baxter File Submitted: 29 Aug 2015 File Category: XW-G1 NOTE: The website would not let me upload the step sequence with the correct extention of .ZSS, I had to change it to .ZSQ to upload it. So if you download it you will have to change the file extention from .ZSQ back to .ZSS the correct file name extention. Description: This is the StepSequence with a new user configuration called GrooveBox 1. I had an issue using the XW-G1 factory settings for the StepSequencer as a groovebox. The issue is I want to use the sliders to turn the parts on & off with all drum parts and the bass guitar part on the same group of sliders. The factory setting has the kick drum on slider 8 in the first set of sliders (1-8 sliders) and the other drum parts on 9-12 sliders and the bass guitar on part 13. So I created a new user step sequence configuration with the parts moved around a little. I moved the kick drum from slider 8 (part 8) to slider 13 (part 13), the bass guitar from slider 13 (part 13) to slider 14 (part 14), and solo 1 from slider 14 (part 14) to slider 8 (part 8). I could not change the part names. The part 8 is still named "Drm1" even though it is now "Sol1", part 13 is still "Bass" even though it is now "Drm1", and part 14 is still named "Sol1" even though it is now "Bass". Instructions for use: 1. Press the "STEP SEQUENCER" button 2. Press the "SELECT" button to select sliders 9-16 3. Create a sequence by turning the buttons off & on for the parts 9-16 as usual 4. While playing the sequence, Press the "MIXER" button to bring up the mixer menu and make sure "Part" is selected so the sliders turn on & off the parts. Slider up turns on the part & slider down turns off the part Click here to download this file
  15. Version 1.11 is the latest firmware for the XW-P1 and XW-G1. The update process requires your computer. The firmware and instructions are located here: http://support.casio.com/en/support/download.php?cid=008&pid=20 Here are some things to remember. Do not interrupt the firmware update in any way. Powering off the XW during the process will damage it permanently. If you are worried about the power going out, putting batteries in your XW is a good precaution. Disable any virus protection, this can interfere with the Updater Do not run other applications on your computer while doing the update. Launch the Update tool BEFORE and put your XW in Update mode BEFORE connecting the XW to the computer If the update seems to stop during the process DO NOT power off the XW. Please wait at least 10 minutes before doing the following Do not touch the XW Close the Updater application on your computer Disconnect the USB cable Restart the Updater Application. Reconnect the XW keyboard to the computer The Updater should resume. When complete your XW will restart automatically
  16. Hi all, I know it's very quiet in the XW world these days, so I am not sure how many people are left to offer advice. Anyhow, I have dug out my G1 after not using it for some time, and have started using it for its sampling features. I am also using the Casio Data Editor to do a lot of the programming/ transfer samples/ transfer data etc. One thing I am trying to do, is use it as a traditional sampler, i.e. so that I can multi sample a classic synth wave, apply it across the keyboard, and have it loop the samples when a key is held down. I have managed to do all three of these tasks, however, when it comes to setting a loop point I cannot seem to get it to do so without noticeable clicks/ pops when it loops. No matter where I set the loop point in the Data Editor, I can reduce the clicks/ pops, but cannot get a seamless loop to occur. I recall reading somewhere that it is better to prepare/ trim samples offline via an editor such as Audacity, and then load them into the G1. I have Audacity and I am quite familiar with using it, so can anyone advise what I need to do to a sample to get a seamless loop point? Just to sum up, I am trying to sample sounds that will play when a key is pressed, and will loop continuously if/ when the key is held down without popping or clicking during the looping stage. Hope someone can help!
  17. I entered a competition by Metapop in conjunction with Cats on Synthesizers in Space, that required a "Cat themed" composition with a cat sound(s) used predominantly through the song. You can hear my song at the link below! Most of the sounds and main voice cat samples are from my Casio XW-G1. The song was originally composed on the G1 using its step sequencer and arpeggiator features, and then transferred into my DAW where I then arranged and edited the song. https://metapop.com/clark-denham/tracks/casio-b-meowsic-cat-aclysm-mix/97980 EQUIPMENT: B. Meowsic Cat Keyboard (modified with a line out) Casio XW-G1 synth/ sampler/ step sequencer DAW: Acoustica Mixcraft Pro 8 Audacity was used to trim, edit, normalise and stretch samples. Paulstretch effect used within Audacity for stretching samples. Main melody “Meow” voice: To keep a cat theme going, I chose to use a B. Meowsic toy cat keyboard for the main melody “meow” sound. This was sampled into the XW-G1, and played live by hand, I mean paw, to give a more human, er, I mean feline feel! Ethereal “Space Kitten” pad sound: Same B. Meowsic “Meow” sample as used for the main voice. This was imported into Audacity, stretched with Paulstretch, then transferred into the XW-G1 and played by paw. Bass line: Generated by the Casio XW-G1 arpeggiator, with the pattern data then exported via MIDI and recorded in the DAW. DAW then played the MIDI bass line back into the XW-G1, and the XW patch (P051 – “Synth Bass 1”) audio was recorded. Drums: Casio XW-G1, factory kit (P406 “Synth Set 1”). Original beat programmed on the XW’s step sequencer, then transferred, built upon and edited within the DAW. This was then fed back into the XW via MIDI and the XW’s “Synth Set 1” drum audio was recorded. Samples: Manually placed within the DAW to give an interplay between cats and dogs.
  18. I've done an re-issue totally for the PX5S this time a song about the adventures in a far away galaxy where there is a world with surrounded by planets that world is as big as the moon Titan. But what is Ghorak-V really. Everything is done in song mode except the pad which I've used arpeggio on so its a full phrase / arpeggio song :D. I've got to learn more about song mode and programming special voices to use on it cause like XW-G1 once you get the hang of it, It turns into a sonic creative addiction XD. Used two drum tracks on this the mix isn't up to par the song isn't complete or done well but i've learned song mode for a change.
  19. I was looking to buy a 2nd XW-G1 and no one has them available. Has the XW-G1 been discontinued or is there a delay in production or what's going on? A new product announcement at NAMM?
  20. Hello Casio Forums, I have been playing my XW-G1 live with a cover band for the last three years. I play half our sets on the synth and half on guitar. Does anyone use a personal mixer to tweak sound live? What set up do you use live to get a great stereo BEST QUALITY Sound? I have noticed live that I am constantly battling different performances on volume, depending on tones, i.e. brass, bass, piano, analog sounds. Is there a way I can "set it and forget it?" My brass sounds all sound full of treble with little mid range or bass. I bought my board used off ebay. Sometimes I think there may be an issue with oscillators or something internally that is giving me a different quality than what I hear on Youtube from you professionals. I am very picky about sound and want to sound the best possible. Willing to spend some money to do so and would like to keep using my XW-G1 live. Thanks for advice! Geoff the PowerTrader

  22. Hello, How are you? I share with you some samples created with the CASIO XW-G1 after a long period of inactivity in this forum. The use of the XW-G1 is different from everything known and that makes it special. The XW-G1 really is a beast disguised as a foolish sheep. It offers an infinity of wonderful things. It is a jewel in the world of synthesizers and electronic music. Greetings and have a good day. Thank you. 80 A ring tone lo-fi Future PUM BUM yeeeeaa The banjo of the beast The cheerful machine The Walker The wandering whistle Tranquility
  23. Is it possible to create a tone using different oscillators and saving it so it may be used on more than one note at a time? As in a chord or in multiple zones or both? I am the world's slowest learner and admit that I do not understand much about programming tones and getting the most of them. Appreciate help. Geoff the PowerTrader
  24. Any suggestions on how to create and trigger the bomb sound from the great Gap Band song "You Dropped a Bomb on Me"? Also, would LOVE to hear how to create the rising sound on Bruno Mars' Uptown Funk. I created a tone for that and at the moment do not even remember how I did that. It isn't even close to the recording sound though. Many thanks to any support! Geoff the PowerTrader
  25. Can anyone help this rookie XW-G1 programmer with coming up with a sound much like Prince used for songs like "Kiss" and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk", "That's what I like" and "24K"? I cannot come close. My polysynth stuff sounds very trebly and am radio'ish. Would truly appreciate help. Thanks! Geoff the PowerTrader
