  4. I made a patch with brass and strings to create an old kind of country , western sound. I find that kind of music so versatile in playing style like the stabs with violins and little glissando effects. It would be a nice addition to add so far I got two patches in the works trying to get some of the country style synthesized. Heck I even try flat picking with key's )
  5. G'day all and thanks for contributing to this plethora of knowledge regarding the Casio Synths. I bought the XW-P1 last year and was completely daunted by the depth and versatility of Casio's contraption, not having any idea on what I was really buying. But I know Casio has been building digital keyboards for years and have heard from many people in the industry that they usually sound better than the rest. My biggest problem is I have no idea how to play it, but i'll persevere... I've been searching the forum for more detail on how to things. A big thanks to Patrick for the huge post on how to upload WAV files via the Casio XW Data Manager. Q.1) I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to create a SMF (Standard MIDI File) type 0 / or type 1 (*.mid) that will be compatible for upload to the XW-P1 ? Q.2) If this is possible are you then able to play normally over the MIDI output with all the functionality of the Synth? Q.3) I noticed upon playback of my sample .WAV file - that I was restricted to only using the solo synth tone category? There is no mention on capability during file playback in the manual on E-72 or there after. Could I edit the default synth tone? Thanks again for anyone who may answer these questions, unfortunately i have run out of time to look through http://www.casiomusicforums.com/ for an answer.... If someone knows of a document, thread or video about these things - can you please let us know? CHEERS Thanks again all! Happy Jamming !
  6. Hello As many of you would know, the XW-P1 hex layer feature is a great thing. Hear is an improv track I made using a super dirty hex layer+DSP setting. Love that Casio.
  7. Long time Casio user and first time poster In my band named IZERA, we use the Casio XW-P1, XW-G1 and the MZ-2000. We are a synthrock band from Australia. This is our newest song called Strange Games. It was made nearly entirely using the XW-P1. The MZ-2000 and real guitars were used minimally to keep up band input but the whole song could very easily been done using only the XW-P1. I cant talk the XW-P1 up enough. Its fantastic onstage and in the studio. Here is the link to the song........Enjoy
  8. Anyone know if this On the Run Performance download is here? I can't find it. Would love to mess with it on my xw-g1 but last I saw it was only in P1. Thanks, PowerTrader

  12. Hey everyone, I am an owner of the XW-P1 keyboard and would like to be able to use the instruments from the keyoard as midi instruments in logic. Is it possible to do without setting up an EXS24 sampler for each sound every time? It's fun making my own synths with it, but using the original would save some time and busy work when I like the sound CASIO made for us to use. I have the controller plugged into an interface and the interface plugs into my computer. I have also plugged it in directly. My MacBook Pro has the ability to control the CASIO XW-P1 to scroll through instruments but it only records MIDI time data and the instrument choice comes from Logic. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks so much. GoldKicks

I noticed a performance list file that seemed popular on this site, so I thought I'd put up my list for keeping track of my XW-P1 User Performance List and PX-5S Stage Settings List. It's different from other lists I've seen, as I've changed the structure quite a bit from the original set. If you have 2 synths like me, it may come in handy if you edit this with your settings... especially if you have the XW and PX. Its an Excel file.
  16. "Another original music composition ("Adrianna Groove") showing off the power of the Casio XW-P1. This is ONE take, so still sticking to my "play live" attitude. (ok ok, the perfect is the evil of the good, so there is one little blip), but this is just sitting down and playing...the way music should be it seems to me, at least whenever possible....but must admit that I like the better quality computer recording (even on one channel)...Oh well. The pads and filters are totally on the XWP1, while at the same time I am controlling (2) other synths simultaneously via midi. The piano you hear is a layered Casio and EX5R piano, plus EX5R created arps, with the drums and strange industrial timing sounds being triggered to the Miniak....all played LIVE in ONE take....on ONE channel on ONE Keyboard. Basically mix on the hardware FIRST...then just play and record all at once. The P1 keys are quick, so my 88 key style is harsh to say the least...(classically trained trumpet fingers). All sounds modified/created by myself (except for the piano of course.) This song blends tons of genres together, and has typical corporate bs structure....oh well. For the money, this XW-P1 is a real pro sounding power monster, IMHO, and CAN compete against the high dollar big boys, especially in LIVE situations. Thanks Tune is for my niece......Adri"

Remember this isn't official, just trying out the Alesis in action. Check this one out- Benjamixx-DasSaxxocore
  19. Well, I loaded up the data editor, but it looks to work differently than the PX-5S. Either that or I have a problem. The keyboard is connected via USB. But when I go to the "transfer" section, the right pane doesn't view performances, solo synth patches, etc. that are already on the keyboard. It shows a blank list. Already tried closing / reopening the data editor, powering the keyboard off and on again, etc. Am I missing anything else? Or does the XW-P1 data editor work differently from that of the PX-5S?
  20. I was looking over the list of waveforms for the Solo Synth (p.10 of the appendix manual) and see the usual waveforms (sine, triangle, square, sawtooth), but each one has three variations - the waveform itself, then -L and -B. This is true of the XW-P1's native waveforms, plus the ones sampled from other synths (such as the CZ waveforms). But what do these -L and -B suffixes mean? When would you use one vs. the others?
  21. Hi all, I recently got a px-5s (Holy crap what an amazing instrument, but I'll save my praising of for somewhere else. Now back to the question), and I want to hook up my xw and my ipad to them. I have connected the ipad alreadythru both the usd and midi ports and the audio in I'm sure its the same for the xw. My question is how do I make them a part of a stage setting? For example, I would like to put the sound of the audio in in zone 3 (or any for that matter). Also can I make the audio of the stereo ins and the 1/8 in two different zones? Right now it plays throug what ever zone I'm on as long as its on. And finally, would it be possible to call up a stage setting (that I set up) that will change the tone on the xw? Thanks

A set of leads and basses programmed by Jerry Kovarsky and Mike Martin for the XW-P1 and XW-G1.
  23. I shouldn't have watched that video with Mike Martin demonstrating the Midi Designer iPad app! That triggered GAS / retail therapy, and I just ordered one! Finding the XW-P1 on sale for $399 also influenced my decision. Though I already have the PX-5S, I like the idea of real-time knob-twiddling on the iPad with the XW-P1. That and the PX-5S doesn't have a 9-drawbar organ mode. Off to download manuals, firmware, editors, patches, etc. while I wait a week for it to get here...
  24. Version 1.11 is the latest firmware for the XW-P1 and XW-G1. The update process requires your computer. The firmware and instructions are located here: http://support.casio.com/en/support/download.php?cid=008&pid=20 Here are some things to remember. Do not interrupt the firmware update in any way. Powering off the XW during the process will damage it permanently. If you are worried about the power going out, putting batteries in your XW is a good precaution. Disable any virus protection, this can interfere with the Updater Do not run other applications on your computer while doing the update. Launch the Update tool BEFORE and put your XW in Update mode BEFORE connecting the XW to the computer If the update seems to stop during the process DO NOT power off the XW. Please wait at least 10 minutes before doing the following Do not touch the XW Close the Updater application on your computer Disconnect the USB cable Restart the Updater Application. Reconnect the XW keyboard to the computer The Updater should resume. When complete your XW will restart automatically
