  2. Good morning everybody I would like to use my PX5s in live situation both as a stage piano and a master keyboard. At the moment I am using it only as a master keyboard controlling MainStage because I don't know: 1) how to to change stage settings on my Px5s from Maintsage (though I know I can send program change, MSB and LSB messages from it). 2) if possible, how to mute and activate the local sound generator from MainStage via midi message. In fact when I want to play Mainstage's plugin and VSTs the sound generator should be, of course, off. But when I want to play my PX5s sounds I should change stage setting (as requested in point 1) and at the same time, of course, activate the local sound generator. Could you suggest me a way to do this? PS I have also a Korg R3 and an iPad running through my PX5s line in connections...I am wondering what happen to their signal if I turn on and off the local sound generator...will I be able to listen to them?
  3. I thought I'd try here because I don't really know anything about keyboards....I am a guitar player, but my church bought a Px-5s and I am trying to learn how to work it. I am familiar with banks and parameters because I've used guitar processors in the past, but this thing is so confusing to me. I'd like to have bank 0-0 be the piano and have bank 0-1 be synth strings 1. But I'd like to have another bank be a harp. Every time I change 0-1 to synth strings and go to a diff bank, if I hit strings it's changed to synth strings. So I change it to a harp then go back to 0-1 and hit strings and it's a harp again. What's the point in having different banks if the only option I have within a banks parameters is the same as every other parameter? Like I said I'm a guitar player but every piano player in church is freaked out by this thing. We need diff settings for our praise band and an orchestra. The praise band uses synth strings and the orchestra uses the harp but they are both string tones. And if you go to a number within any bank if you hit the strings button it goes to whatever you changed it to last. I want a harp on one and a strings on the other. This is quite frustrating to try to figure out. I want to be able to hit a button and have the sound I want. If that makes any sense.

It consists of a series of tables set out exactly as the stage settings are laid out on the PX-5s. There is one with the factory stage settings, one with the factory settings in the alternative order, and several blank ones for you to keep a record of your own registration sets. It fits perfectly onto an ipad. I refer to mine all the time and could not manage without it. I have two copies of it available: one in NUMBERS format for the ipad, and the other in EXCEL for windows. The Excel version is the second file (19.48 kb).... and the numbers version is the first (211.73 kb). Both files are ZIPPED so you will need to unzip them before using them.   7. Would like to upload this list I made, of all stage settings and what is on each zone. I just list the names of the tones and if they are set to on or off, but not how each and every parameter (EQ, reverb,...etc.) is tweaked. That might be a bigger task.   9. Howdy gang- Newbie here... just got my PX-5S and so far I'm INCREDIBLY impressed. I was lugging around a Kronos X88, needing help loading and unloading, and managed to tweak my back... done with that! Anyhoo, I am working with the data editor which is wonderful and just about have all the tweaks to the stage settings to cover my next round of upcoming gigs. Here's my dilemma - we go song to song, and I need to figure out how to sort my Stage Settings so I am not hunting in banks and my settings are in order. The data editor I know can do this, but for the life of me I cannot seem to make it work. Seems like it should be able to drag and drop, but I can't seem to figure it out. Any tips, tricks, techniques are greatly appreciated! Sorry if this has been asked a zillion times, but when I searched both this form and YouTube, I really didn't find anything clear. Thanks again!
  10. Hi.... I bought my PX-5S several months ago, and started exploring the many facets of this great instrument. I soon realized that I needed an organized system to manage the Stage Settings. (Maybe that's just me.) I had several goals in mind: Familiarize myself with the Factory Stage Settings. (I'm talking about sound, texture, musicality, etc. At this point, I'm not concerned so much about sound design or construction.)Retain the Stage Settings (SSs) that I like, and feel will be useful musically.Label the each SSs so that I can easily find it, play it, edit it, save it, delete it, etc.Other goals I haven't yet discoveredSo I came up with this system. I'm sure there are many ways to do this, and not so sure how this will work out. It's brand new and I'm just starting to use it, but thought I would share it in hopes that it might be useful to others. Generally, the steps I used were as follows: Listen to each SSUsing a spreadsheet (see attached), I color-coded each SS (more on this later)After all 100 SSs were evaluated, using the PX-5S Editor, I deleted those that I did not likeNow, with the new space available, I can download new SSs, or edit and save SSs in available locations.To continue, make sure you have downloaded the Editor, and the very informative Manual. Get familiar with it. It's easy to use and intuitive. Next download the spreadsheet attached to this topic. The spreadsheet contains several "SETS." Each SET is simply a group of 100 PX-5S Stage Settings. SET 1 is the Factory preset. That's what the instrument comes with, out of the box. Personally, I don't like the way SET 1 is configured, in that each BANK contains a sampling of Tones (e.g., Piano, Clav, Orchestral, Synth, etc.). I prefer to have Tones organized by BANK; for example, all Pianos in BANK 0, all EPianos in BANK 1, all Reeds in BANK 2, etc. SET 2 is what's called the Alternate Stage Setting. It contains the exact same SSs as in SET 1, however is organized the way I prefer. It's available for download on this Forum, so I downloaded it into my board. SET 3 started as an exact copy of SET 2. I then listened to each SS, evaluated it, and color coded each one. Here are the meanings of the colors: No Color - keep the SS, I like itYellow - hmm, maybe delete it later; it's ok, so keep for nowBlue - keep it, because it might be interesting to learn about it's sound design....laterRed - delete this one, and free up some spaceSET 4 is what I ended up with after doing the following: Using the Editor, rearrange each BANK by moving up all the keepers (No Color), Yellows, and Blues, and in the process, overwriting the Reds. Now I have open spots at the bottom of each BANKNext, I filled some of the open spots with new SSs that I downloaded from this Forum, and colored them Orange. And finally, any new SSs that I designed myself are Green, and blank spaces are open.SET 4 is the final arrangement of 100 Stage Settings. I can easily see the original Stage Settings, those I may want to delete later, new ones, open spaces, etc. Of course the meaning of what's in each BANK may change, as things get mixed up in time. I have created a stage setting for Bryan Adams "Heaven" as follows: zone 1 = piano sound zone 2 = electric piano sound (which I layer with zone one) zone 3 = string sound (assigned to a slider for use on choruses, bridge, and verse 2) zone 4 = turned off (I currently use only one pedal for sustaining the piano tones) Everything is really good... but, to be GREAT, I need the ability to play the sustained high string tonic note at the beginning while simultaneously playing the melody part from zones 1 & 2... Right now, this is accomplished by playing that note on a separate keyboard and sustain pedal and playing the other parts on my Privia. My question is... Can this high string sound be programmed into zone 4 and somehow triggered, sustained , and cut off... either by a second pedal or by manually playing that note on the keyboard...while performing with the other sounds at the same time (All on the Privia 5S)? If this could happen, please explain how to do that. Thanks in advance!

  13. Looking if someone has developed the following sounds (stage settings) for the px-5s : 1) This synth sound is AWESOME! (LOVERBOY'S "Working for the Weekend") (Copy and paste to address bar to find this video) If a Roland can do it, A CASIO HAS TO DO IT!!! 2) How about this sound? (RUSH'S "Subdivisions") (Listen at beginning & listen at 2:24) Again, CASIO > ROLAND!!!! 3) Also looking for the "JUMP" sound from Van Halen I know, I AM LAME!!! ......Everybody overplays this song! ....but hey...I tried to program a GM saw wave with the 7-7 setting on the px-5s...but didn't sound close enough Would love feedback if anyone knows of any existing stage settings that are even close .. Thanks in advance!
  14. Has anyone had any luck building some good ambient stage settings on the PX-5S? I'm trying to write in the vein of Sigur Ros, Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Tycho, etc., and I would really like to build some cool ambient stage settings. Anybody have one they can share, or have any tips on building my own?
  15. I just got a PX-5S a day ago. I haven't hooked it up to my computer yet, but I was thinking that I'd like to build a stage setting for harpsichord, to expand upon the 2-3 built-in patches for harpsichord sounds that exist. Harpsichords normally have up to four ranks of strings: 16', 8', 8', 4'. Much like organ stops, that means 8' is at exact pitch, 16' an octave lower, 4' an octave higher. Usually, 16' and 8' are playable separately or coupled on one manual, and then 8' and 4' are playable separately or coupled on the other manual. Optionally, manuals can be coupled together, making it possible to double the 8', combine 16' and 4', or any other combination. (Though it's physically hard to play when all four ranks of strings are engaged.) In addition, some harpsichords offer a lute stop, which dampens the strings, resulting in a more lute / guitar-like sound. Others have a "nasale" stop, which imparts a more nasal tone (not sure how this works, as I haven't seen an acoustic harpsichord with these). So then I got to thinking: what can hex layers do with this? I was thinking that mapping the 6 sliders could control volume levels of the following: 16' (harpsichord patch played an octave down) 8' (manual 1) 8' (manual 2) 4' (harpsichord patch played an octave up) 8' lute (tweak harpsichord patch envelope/settings for more guitar-like sound) 8' nasale (tweak harpsichord patch envelope/settings for nasal tone) And then it would be possible to "couple" these by adjusting relative levels of the sliders, resulting in more flexibility than a real harpsichord. Since I'm new to this keyboard, maybe this reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of how it works ... but is something like this do-able?
  16. Hi all, I recently got a px-5s (Holy crap what an amazing instrument, but I'll save my praising of for somewhere else. Now back to the question), and I want to hook up my xw and my ipad to them. I have connected the ipad alreadythru both the usd and midi ports and the audio in I'm sure its the same for the xw. My question is how do I make them a part of a stage setting? For example, I would like to put the sound of the audio in in zone 3 (or any for that matter). Also can I make the audio of the stereo ins and the 1/8 in two different zones? Right now it plays throug what ever zone I'm on as long as its on. And finally, would it be possible to call up a stage setting (that I set up) that will change the tone on the xw? Thanks

Having just recently returned to performing at 70 years of age after an absence of 30 years (primarily on guitar), and now the proud owner of a PX-5S, I'm wishing I had spent some of that time learning midi! I have been using Set List Maker for just about everything except for midi, so was very interested to see that Mike had used it for changing stage settings, but I haven't a clue of how to make it work, I initially tried to find what values to enter into the Bank MSB, Bank LSB and Program fields, but the Casio Midi documentation just left me totally confused! So I tried letting Set List Maker learn the midii. That worked, but the resulting hex code means nothing to me qnd I would prefer to have an understanding of what to enter into the fields. Could someone please either give me some examples of what the values should be or, point me in the direction of some good basic relevant midi tutorials.
  18. Hey I am seeking help from anybody who is willing to offer. I am trying to get a handle on this keyboard but it is a slow go so far. This is what I would like to be able to achieve (at least for now) 1. Have one bank in the stage settings (let's say Bank 0) be selected organ sounds and have each of those or maybe 7 out of the 10 be able to have the Leslie setting. So bank 0-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 various organs. 2. Have each of the first stage setting in banks 1-9 be a different sound (EP, Clav. blues harp, etc) that I would use on stage each night. That way I can make it simple to select stuff on the fly quickly. So Bank 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 etc. Is there a way to simply get the stage settings to "switch locations" rather than replacing one for another? I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. I don't have any idea how or what to modify. I don't like banging my head against a wall trying to figure things out. If I can get the basics to get me going, that would work. I play in a Blues/Blues Rock band, so for now, just the basics will do. I can experiment on my own later. I don't want to go buy a RotoChoir, or an RT-20 or MiniVent or such if I don't have to, but I want that type of control. Is it possible and can anybody explain how to do it. I've been told to post my issues here so everyone can benefit. So, here it is. Who's going to ride in on the white horse and save the day? Thanks.
  19. Let me start by expressing my thanks, first, to those that established and maintain this site and, second, to those who have contributed downloads of many different types and varieties. As to the latter, I would just throw out there that the Stage Settings Downloads section has, perhaps, grown too large for its current organization. Here are a couple thoughts if you might consider streamlining it. Many of the Stage Settings in the Downloads section are really tone-based. For these, it would be great to be able to categorize these by instrument type. Suggested categories for these would be 1) AP's, 2) EP's (including Rhodes, Wurlis and Clavs), 3) Organs and 4) Synths/other. I am betting this will cover up to 80% of the posted Stage Settings. Then, there are 5) multi-tone and/or arpeggiated settings to create an overall controllable dynamic sound across the keyboard and 6) others with different tones assigned to different portions of the keyboard to cover the multiple keyboard/synth parts in a particular song, for example, the "1901" setting I posted a few months ago. Anyway, anyone posting a setting could be required to select one of these six categories for their setting as part of the posting process. I know that you can search by tags, and this helps, but us posters have not really been consistent in the use of monikers for this purpose. Anyway, just a suggestion, especially to help those who are newer to the PX-5S and want to selectively add to their Stage Settings library without having to slog through, now, over 100 posted settings with many more to come I am sure. Of a bit more of an editorial (and selfish) nature, I would love to see more Stage Settings developed that have the keyboard arranged to play cover songs that have multiple keyboard parts, again like the "1901" setting. I wish I had more time, as I would work on some. Out of curiosity, how many of you out there are using the PX-5S in cover bands? Would having a library of song-based Stage Settings would be useful? Any particular song suggestions? If any of you do and have developed settings for this purpose, I would encourage you to post them! Thanks!
  20. In my live work I tend to use a limited number of basic sounds and save variations across banks. Example: 00 - Rhodes 01 - Rhodes/String Layer 02 - Rhodes/Pad Layer 03 - Rhodes/Lead Split 04 - Rhodes/Bass Split etc. It's important that the basic Rhodes sound be identical so I can switch on the fly with no surprises. In the example above, let's say I create my Holy Grail basic Rhodes and Save it as both a Tone (say "HG Rhodes" in Hex U100) and Stage Setting. Next I create the split and layered Stage Settings using the HG Rhodes Tone for each. So far so good. Now let's say I decide my Holy Grail Rhodes would sound even better if I rolled off the DSP Distortion High EQ from 64 to 48. I rewrite the the Tone - same name, same location. Now that change should automatically be reflected in all the Stage Settings that use that Tone, right? 'Cause that ain't happening. Do I have to re-load the edited Tone and re-write all the Stage Settings again?
