  1. Just purchased a PX-870 and really like it... EXCEPT... I get it all setup the way I want - some added brilliance, adjusted touch, enabled external speaker, and a few other tweaks. All with that tedious "find what key does what function" using the big instruction sheet (why, oh why, are most of the functions not labeled above the keyboard?). Now I turn it off (or it turns itself off after a while) and when I turn it back on - it is reset to the default "concert grand" piano and none of the tweaks I worked hard to get just right. Every single time I turn this on I have to redo all the setting changes? That is crazy - the piano is plugged in so there is power available to keep the settings without any battery. Is my unit defective or is this how it is actually designed? Hard to believe there could be such an obvious design shortcoming on a device of this class. Does anyone else have this problem?
  2. So I adjusted the settings for my PXS3000 to have no acoustic simulation, heavier key feel, and some other things, but every time I turn the instrument off they'll be back to the defaults when I turn it back on. Is there any way to set current settings as default?
  3. Hello, new owner (though I've been playing it for a month). Originally I had a Roland Juno-G, which had 5 knobs with multiple layers of function. With this new Casio, I see there are 3 programmable knobs, which I know how to edit... But not to save. I believe I have to do something with the Menu Registry, which I have fiddled with - but no matter what I try to do all of my settings are lost whenever I restart my keyboard. So, would someone be able to walk me through in simple terms a step-by-step instruction on what I am meant to do, please? I've read through a bunch of this forum and see good responses to other knob related things. There is a lot of other good material to read through, though a lot of it does go over my head. Any help will be appreciated.
  4. Hi, Over the years I've come to realise just how important compression is for the stage pianist. The better digital pianos have become, the more important compression has become. Although I can remember have just the same problem with my Fender Rhodes Stage 73 back in 1977! The basic problem is that the dynamic range of a piano is massive in comparison the typical gig environment and pa capability. Unless there is an agreement in the audience to be quiet the, quietest notes will have to be amplified to a level where the loudest notes will be beyond the pa's reproduction capability. This situation gets dramatically worse when performing with a typical band. Once you add drums the actual dynamic range is seriously squashed. Simply turning up the piano's volume isn't a solution. All the will happen is distortion, simply because the difference between quiet notes and loud ones is too great for the pa or your backline to handle. The solution is compression. That's why serious stage pianos have master compressors. I've been using the master compressor on my Roland RD700SX for many years. It enables me to convey something of both quiet and loud parts even in a loud environment. It works very well. Can't say the same for the Nord Stage 2's master compressor.. It's a blunt thing that shouts 'I've been compressed' Not what you want if all you are trying to do is let the audience hear the piano 'naturally'. The PX5s has a master compressor, and I've spent some time with it, trying to understand exactly what the parameters are actually doing. It isn't as straight forward as you might think. Page E-23 of main PX5s Tutorial gives an outline of the controls available but there isn't enough info to understand what constitutes typical settings. For example: Threshold, does as it says, do more than simply adjust the threshold at which compression starts, but it isn't clear exactly what the relationship is between numbers 0 and 127 and Compression threshold / Limiter. This is true for Ratio too. In fact it isn't obviously clear what setting these two should have to defeat the compressor so that it does not affect the signal!! Maybe we could have these properly defined? A diagram with numbers would be brilliant! What would also be very useful is some setup guides (templates) for typical applications, just like I've defined above. E.g.. dynamic range reduced so as to work with a typical five piece band, but not sound like a sledgehammer; or settings to suit piano backing for a singer/soloist; or piano for worship etc.. Typical working musician stuff….. Thanks
  5. I used this forum five years ago and you folks were kind enough to get me started on the joy of playing my CTK-7200. Now after one week I find the learning curve on the CTX-3000 to be as steep. What I'd like to know is: 1) Get into the DSP and adjust all aspects of the rotary function and save those settings so that they apply to all tones that emulate a drawbar organ tone. Also save Chorus 2 to be applied to all organ tones as well or at least apply to tone 80 ElecOrg 3. 2) Have the sustain pedal used as a switch between fast and slow rotary speeds. 3) Save these setting so that when powered on the keyboard loads them automatically along with tone 80 ElecOrg 3. 4) Which combination of tones and effects can I set that could possibly make the 3000 sound like the baddest pipe organ it can be? My many thanks in advance for any and all help, Paul
  6. Hello, I just got a Privia PX-5S. I'm extremely excited to start gigging with it and have some studio sessions coming up I'm planning on using it in. I'm loving the Privia so far but having quite an annoying issue with it. I'm sure I just don't understand how to use it fully but I have exhausted youtube tutorials and the manual. On start up, no matter the stage setting, every zone has a pitch LFO on it. I go to the settings, and turn it off. (it's always set at .8 ) and everything works fine. But if I move to a new stage setting, restart the keyboard, or accidentally press the wrong button. All of the sudden the LFO is back and I have to go back into the GUI to disable it. Surely there is a setting I am not seeing, or somekind of user error. But either way it's extremely frustrating, I can't have an LFO messing with my tuning while recording, and it just sounds off trying to play along with anything. Has anyone else encountered this? What can I do to stop this from being the default setting? I have already tried doing a factory reset, it did not change anything. This is my first post on this forum. Apologies if I have posted the wrong place or broken any rules. I appreciate any input. Thank you.
  7. Happy New Year... We have a Privia PX120- which has always sounded and worked great! My daughter is 12 and takes piano lessons - we pretty much use this as a piano and we don't use all the settings - except to fool around a bit... My daughter went to practice after Winter Break and there was no sound - not even through head phones... We can hear the demo song and metronome - but no sound when we press the keys... I found the manual on the web - and tried turning on local control and turning off lock - not sure I did it correctly because I did not hear a sound to confirm - still no sound from keys... I called Casio and they told me to try the same things I tried from reading the manual. He also suggested to reset by unplugging the piano a few hours to drain the power - which would reset to factory settings - no luck there either... He suggest this forum - I am hoping it's just a matter of pressing some mysterious button - Please help! Thanks!
  8. Hi all, Quick burning question: Is there a way to assign user profiles to the CTX series keyboards? I've just bought a CT-X5000 and my daughter's gone nuts for it! I don't mind her using it of course but don't want any of my settings messed up - so is there a way of assigning user profiles to the device or has Casio made a huge oversight?
  9. Hello buds! As I love my Privia, I have some software problems from time to time, but till now I managed. It has changed unfortunately... I used 'search' option but nothing seemed to fit my problem - my Privia stopped saving settings. It saves MIDI with no problem, Audio is ok too. I discovered the problem while trying to save some of my fav sound settings into the bank - they don't save anymore. The message that is has been saved occures, but it doesnt save. The 'auto resume' option also doesn't work, mainly because Privia won't save the setting as 'ON' and resets to 'OFF'after restarting. So, basically I end up with clear, factory settings each time I turn on my piano. I did 'reset to factory settings', but it didn't help (and I managed to forget about 80 MIDI saved tracks I wanted to keep... hah, stupid me xD) Any ideas? Is there a way to update the software or so?
  10. Is there a way to save PX-560 MIDI settings? I hate hi-res MIDI always ON
  11. Hello everybody, I have had the CT-X800 for one month now and there is one feature which is great for kids but pretty annoying when you are in the middle of a music creation process and you are making a pause to drink a coffee or whatever, this is the Auto-power Off Function, which automatically cuts the power of the CT-X off after half an hour of not using it. If you happen not to have saved your settings before making a pause, when you come back to your keyboard, you'll see that all your settings are lost, and this is quite annoying if you’ve not saved them in a registration. Of course you can always disable the Auto-power off function from the Function menu, but as many functions in the CT-X line, the process is rather tedious and it is quite boring to have to repeat it each time you are powering the keyboard on. There is a workaround, though, and it is to use a registration memory slot to disable the auto-power off. I’ll explain to you how I have done this. Before starting, I’d suggest you use Bank 8 Slot 4, which you are not likely to use for something else. Here is the full process to deactivate the auto-power off: 1. Select the Function menu. 2. Use the “-“ key on the numeric keypad to go back in the function list until you reach “Other” (normally, you will have to press the “-“ key only once). 3. Press “Enter”. 4. Use the left arrow key on the numeric keypad until you reach “AutoOff”. 5. Use the “+” key on the numeric keypad to toggle the AutoOff function from “On” to “Off” (I know, this is quite confusing). When this is done, the keyboard will NOT auto-power itself off after half an hour, it will keep its power on until you power it off manually with the Power button. Here is now the procedure to save this disabled auto-power off setting in a registration memory slot: 1. Press the “Bank” button. 2. Press the “-“ button in the numeric keypad until you reach Bank 8. 3. Press the Store button and the button for Memory Slot 4 simultaneously. Voilà, you know have the registration slot 8-4 that you can recall at any time to disable the Auto-power off function. N.B.: 1. I advise you to recall this registration first thing when you power the keyboard on, because otherwise, when you’ll recall the function, of course you’ll recall the other settings which are stored in the same registration memory slot 8-4 as well. 2. I described the procedure for the CT-X700/800, but it won’t differ much on the CT-X3000/5000, I suggest that you go look in the Manual to check all the steps of the procedure. Hope this helps.
  12. I lucked out when shopping for external speakers for my PX-560 and found a set of JBL LSR305 speakers on sale. These are hard to find as they have been superseded by a newer (and not necessarily better) model. I have them connected with a balanced XLR cable to phono cable from the speaker to the 560 line out. Problem is, despite being "powered" speakers, they don't seem any louder than those built in to the keyboard. I find myself bending over the keyboard to see if they are actually making a sound. I thought that these speakers might blow me off my piano stool with the volume set just below max, but not even close. Speaker trim is zeroed out and input sensitivity switch is at -10db. Am I doing something wrong? Update: April 24/2018 - Pretty disappointed with JBL. Sent them and Casio the same question as above and have received a reply only from Casio. Have scoured the Internet myself and may have found a solution. Silly me bought an XLR to 1/4" cable believing that it was the more professional way to go. Maybe so, but I cobbled together a 1/4" to 1/4" plug I had from spare parts lying around and went from 1/4" to 1/4" instead of XLR to 1/4". Guess what - an obvious increase in volume, just by using a different connector. Why on earth does that not appear in the JBL literature!? So, I'm off to find a pair of good 1/4" cables.
  13. I just received my CT-X700. My hope is to use it as an additional sound engine and auto-accompaniment module for my CP-300 stage piano. For the price, I'm quite impressed with the sounds. My question to everyone here is: Am I missing some way of making settings change "stick" after you power down? For example, my default chord detection style is "full keyboard". Is there a way to save this? Ditto with auto-harmonizing style and other settings. My second question is: Can I use a male USB 2 to male USB 2 to connect another USB MIDI keyboard to this to act as a keyboard? -Pete
  14. Hi everybody, I am totally new to Casio keyboards, so this may sound as a bit silly question, but I can't find the solution anywhere - how can I adjust the time the sustain pedal holds the tone? Mainly the strings and organs literally never fade, which makes it almost unusable. Why would anyone want to hold the tone forever? It makes the song all blurry. Can you please help me?
  15. Basically, I am unable to lower volume of the upper split point (right hand melody/harmony/improve) or raise the accompaniment volume.. Because of this, I can't hear the accompaniment well enough. As I turn up the volume, the entire keyboard gets louder. I need the accompaniment louder. I would like to be able to turn up the bass line and drums. Yes - I have made user settings but I still would have liked to use the mixer and be able to save globally. Please let me know if I'm completely out of line or misunderstanding what I heard. If the manual says you can save something, then it should be true. If not, I've wasted lots of time. I also don't change settings from patch to patch, that is not efficient either. Please someone, let me know if there is a solution to this problem. Tech support gave an unconvincing "we're trying to fix the problem, have you looked at the user forum?" Thank you!
  16. I know how to save registrations but I'm unsure on how to save global settings like EQ for the whole keyboard, audio volume etc? Any help? Much appreciated. The manual is pretty thick and pretty thorough but sometimes I get a little lost....you?

  18. I'd be interested in hearing from those of you who have set the up/down acceleration setting for the rotary effect. Also other setting that best simulate a Hammond B3/Leslie combo. Thank you for your time, and consideration. Paul
