Julian
Hi ALL anybody got really good version of the Whitney Houston EPIano,s as played in Saving all my Love , Greatest Love of All etc. These are the best, I think they were done on Yamaha DX7 type synths,( still to be bettered ???? ) I do have some good VST's but I'm always looking for better PX560 format ZLT or ZRM cheers
Jokeyman123
Does the PX560 allow for importing samples? If it does, I may be able to send you a few ep samples from my SY77 which is the advanced version of the Yamaha DX7. These would have to be in .wav format and you might have to edit-I would send a raw unedited sample or samples from it-these are the sounds you are usually hearing on these tracks you mention. The older Rolands came close (the D50 in particular) but the DX7 was the signature sound you hear, ad nauseum after awhile! The other alternative is to get a cheap Yamaha FB-01 module which had a ton of DX type ep sounds among others. used in combination with your PX560 I'm sure you could nail that sound. The FB-01 used 4-operator FM and sounds pretty much identical to the early original DX7 synth. Gritty but very "metallic".
Brad Saucier
The PX-560 does not have expansion memory for samples. But look in the electric piano category. There is some very nice DX EP's built in there. Some are called "digital ep". Also don't forget to check the hex layer tones for EP layers.
Display Name
The FM/Digital EP samples will do Whitney songs justice. Like Brad said, you can layer them and also edit them to add more "sparkle". Don't be afraid to take it up a notch and layer some acoustic piano with the FM electric piano (this is the famous "LA Piano Sound" -- also try adding some bells, subtle strings, pads and other sounds. It will really thicken up the usually thin FM sound and add lots of texture. One thing with FM: On it's own it is REALLY thin sounding. This can sometimes be a good thing, but the real magic comes from layering and adding effects.
Julian
Hi all, many thks for your kind replies, I think I will try and be more familiar with the px560 hex layer creation, and, as I said I do have many vst etc On the Whitney ep,s there is the faint metal click on key down, which I have on some samples but they don't just seem the same at the high end of the keyboard as per the original songs, maybe ill try EQ ing it at the high freq. Jokeyman, there is some plug in software called Dexed , try downloading it on to your pC and then hook up via yr audio interface and SY77 , you can see all the DX,s syx files , if you are into the 70,s 80,s ep sounds youll love it=== thks
