Hi there,

Sounds odd for sure.  Mine switches on no problems with just a simple two-seconds press.

No expert here,  Dave, but I'd be thinking on the following lines before contacting dealer:

    *  Do other appliances switch on consistently from the same wall socket?  Radio, fan, lamp...?

   *  Is the connection from the mains plug to the power brick seated firmly?  Unplug it and reconnect it a few times, just in case of a mote of dirt?

   * The connection that plugs from the power brick into the back of the keyboard:  Unplug it a few times and reconnect it firmly, as above.

   *  On average, how many times out of ten times of powering on the MZ-X might be a dud?

   *  Is it a brand new keyboard or a pre-owned one and is the warranty still valid?

    * Should you need to contact Casio Tech help,  they might ask if you updated the OS?

    * Any way of testing just the power pack for faults before returning the whole keyboard for repair?

   cheers
