Stewart
I was wondering if it's normal to have a wobbly volume knob and a little play in it. Thanks again everyone for your help.

AlenK
Yeah, it' a little wobbly but trust me, unless you are a violent player you aren't going to break it.

Chas
I believe it may even have been intentional. Despite many thinking that having totally solid feeling knobs equals quality, the dilemma is that if the keyboard is gigged (the XW's were always designed to be portable), there's a good chance knobs and controls will get knocked. If this happens to a rigid knob, the force of the knock will transfer down to where it mounts on the circuit board, risking substantial damage. Even if the shaft is bolted onto the case, this could cause the shaft to break or the mounting keyboard face to crack. By designing some "give" into the knob shafts, they are able to withstand small knocks without causing damage to either the controller, circuit board, shaft or mounting face.
