px 350 reverb

i've tried the Stadium setting listening with an earphone, but the effect is very hard to differentiate. i really like this keyboard specially the weighted keys. it simulate the acoustic piano feel and the sound is very piano like. reverb effect is the first thing i look for a digital piano, coz it adds a dramatic tone to the instrument. unfortunately this piano has virtually no effect for that. anyways i still like it. thank for the reply.

I.m working on this, studying the Casio midi implementation chart for the PX350 and how to possibly alter/reprogram DSP settings with a software editor or external hardware controller with control change messages. The capabilities are in there. Would be great if we can get full access to changing reverb, chorus and other settings that exist inside the PX350, including an enhancer, an equalizer and additional settings for the Leslie effect. Might even be able to save these with a registration memory.

I've also posted the hope here that Casio would develop a real editor useful with all the PX series not just the IDES program. And although it is daunting, I am studying a Windows program I found online called simply CTRL which has the capability to custom-design editors from scratch for just about anything midi-their website already has front-ends custom-designed for many instruments that had none-a daunting program I don't fully understand yet as it requires some knowledge of sysex and hex (gulp), if anyone wants to pitch in and help me develop a PX350 editor and make it available here as an "open-source" application, it would be IMO a major step up the Casio food chain.

Progress so far-only a little. Made a panel with 4 sliders, 4 rotary controls. With hardware controller, only managed to access reverb depth so far, but can continuosly control that, and seems to squeeze more depth out of it than the presets by quite a bit. Thanks BradMZ for taking a look. The big problem is knowing what each continuous controller actually does since the midi spec doesn't say exactly..

Numbers for CC for DSP are 16-19 and 81-84 and 91, 92 for chorus and reverb send level. Maybe I should PM Mike Martin and see if he can help, but I hate to bother him when its something I probably shouldn't be messing with anyway. The fact that I can get greater depth from the reverb tells me this is probably worth the trouble. It would be real nice to be able to change settings for equalization, enhancer, Leslie, reverb and chorus. The Leslie spec in particular looks very programmable, ramp up, ramp down, speed all are there I guess this is like the PX5s. I'll keep working at it.

Little more progress. Controllers 16,17,18 and 19 seem to be changing EQ settings, sounds like 16 for bass, 17, 18 midrange/midhigh and 19 high frequency although I'm not getting consistent results not sure why. Wondering if the newer MIDI resolution spec is causing trouble.  Got panning working and cc 91 and 93 do control reverb and chorus depth. I'm getting more depth with both when controlling with external controller. Not having any success yet with software-am trying VFM virtual fader master program, designed to mimic JL Cooper fadermaster but although it is sending MIDI data to the PX, PX doesn't seem to be responding. Program changes default to the GM soundbank, there must be a bankset number to access the other sounds with program changes but i don't know what these are yet.

Still working on this-sent emails directly to Casio tech support proposing they design (or help me design) an editor for the Privia series something like the PX-5S editor-the IDES software doesn't seem to want to see my PX-350 with USB or MIDI ports in back, so maybe it's not compatible. Can record and play MIDI files through USB or MIDI no problem but that's all so far.  I've also requested more details about specifics of cc messages for the DSP-as far as I can determine, each tone has unique DSP settings saved and programmed in it for certain parameters over and above the global reverb and chorus settings. And these settings seem to be retained when recording multi-track stuff which is very good. As if you have seperate effects for each track, but hard-wired into the tone itself (at least it sounds like this is how it works). I also requested possibility of firmware upgrade to add a few functions to the song recorder such as a mixer as in the XW, CTK and WK series, for any PX'es that have the multi-track song recorder. And maybe this should be in a separate post, but Casio clarified that track numbers default to MIDI channel numbers (seems obvious but wanted to be sure since the song recorder has no settings for this). and strangely, MIDI channels 5,6 and 7 are used for the "system" channel but I still don't know what these control. And Mr. Mike any tech data about this would be very welcome. I have the MIDI implementation doc. I know I'm getting pretty technical here, but these keyboards are incredible, I think it's worth the time and effort.

This is an interesting thread.

The annoying thing (to me) is that Casio has chosen to _not_ make those features of the PX-350 hardware accessible via the standard menus!  They've been "hidden" from the User Manual.

My suspicion is that it was a marketing decision -- some features (e.g. multi-band EQ) are just "forbidden" in a piano in the PX-350's niche.    So they're built into the hardware (because that's common across different models), but only "opened-up" in specific models.

It's a sad way to run a market.

Brad, PianoManChuck and winX-I mentioned in another post directed to Mike Martin that it would be helpful if PX-350 owners could gain access to even a few more programmable features (like DSP settings, Leslie fast/slow) possibly through a firmware update for the PX-350 and maybe other Privias since this has just been made available to PX-5S owners through a firmware update with apparently substantial differences/improvements (good for you guys!)  Since the PX-350 seems similar "under the skin", even throwing us Privia  guys a bone would be a real shot in the head/arm/butt! Think I'll PM Mike Martin about this (like he needs me pestering him some more!)

Meanwhile I've been studying the Novation launch control which is a small USB midi control surface as a possible solution to getting more out of the PX. Since no luck so far with the Korg NanoKontrol through its USB to the PX, not sure Novation would be any better, although the Nanokontrol is specifically a software controller, the Novation isn't.

I have had some luck accessing and expanding reverb and chorus at least through the sliders/knobs on my 25-key controller but only by connecting through the PX-350 DIN MIDI jacks from the DIN outs on my controller, usb doesn't seem to work, why I don't know. Saving these changes in a registration memory would add alot of power to the PX-350. Any insight or help as always you will get a little lump in your paycheck. ;):P
