XW G1 Data Editor v1.2.0 Failing To Connect Problem-Win 7 64

I don't know why it's not connecting, I was able to update the firmware to the latest version over on the Casio site using the appropriate USB cable and my DAW's are able to recognise the midi in inputs from the G1. I don't have any daws running whilst running the data editor so I'm kinda at a loss in why it's saying it's disconnected..

Here's a screengrab.

I experienced a similar problem last year on my P1.  It turned out I had mis set a MIDI parameter on the keyboard.

I think I had one of the MIDI settings set to USBKeyout ON or something like that.  The solution was a simple as changing that one parameter.

Otherwise if all else fails try resetting the keyboard to factory settings.

Let us know if this helps...

No luck, the Casio Data Editor version 1.2.0 seems to be broken even after changing the MIDI settings on the G1. I also did a system factory reset on the G1.  Even tried running it on my Laptop that's running Windows 7 32 Bit. Tried running the Data Editor in compatibility mode for XP and Vista and the Data Editor is still broken in recognising the G1.

I read on the notes that they updated the editor in compatibility for the travasty of what's called Windows 8.

Is there a previous G1 Data Editor version I can use ?

Are either of you running Windows 7 btw ?

Scott,

Can you confirm that the CASIO USB device is showing up in the Device manager?

Please double check your MIDI Settings on the XW.   In the Settings / MIDI menu, make sure USBOutSel is set to KEY.

Are any other MIDI applications running?

Hi Mike, here's another screenshot with the settings and info and pic of the display. And yes I did press Exit, turned it back on and tried to reconnect.

Also I don't have any midi applications open. I also tried on my Toshiba Satellite  1.73 Dual Core which is running Windows 32 Bit Windows 7 which is a bare operating system with nothing on it apart from a couple of non running apps.

My main system as you can see should have no problems what so ever as every other application work without problem.

I also tried to connect vie my Toshiba 1.73 dualcore, 2 gig of ram laptop which runs Windows 7 32 bit which is just a bare OS with just a few applications and games. It doesn't want to know either.

Below is a screengrab from my I7 920 system, I changed to basic windows mode to see if it would make any difference.

The result remains the same, I kinda gave up trying to get it to work on my main desktop system, the application works on my Laptop which isn't really ideal but it works that way. There is probably a service I've disabled, but I don't have a clue what that one is.

I'm trying to do directly through the sd card now without the dataeditor , I formatted the sd card in the g1 and basically I've copied alot of g1 compatible files onto the sdcard into the  main dat folder.

But I can't get the G1 to actually see them.

Ah well, guess I will have do it through my laptop solution.

Here's another longshot, but it's possible (Windoze 7 is full of surprises).

I've notice many programs will not run properly or at all unless you run as "administrator" which you should already be just by booting into Windows 7. Now here's the problem-most times Windows 7 will prompt you if you need to "OK" this, but not always-it has failed for me with other programs once or twice or three times-programs will not even appear as if you never installed them, others will not function properly.  I've had to download a small program called "take ownership" which creates a right-click "context" menu in 7 which allows full permissions with files and programs that Windows locks you out of (even if I'm running as administrator). I'm guessing that Windoze 7 may be locking you out of not the data editor completely, it is running-but possibly the file folders or other files the data editor may need to see your G1. I could not access most of my operating system files until I used this take permissions program, and if you're one of the 2 people that never had to troubleshoot Windows (I think there are 2 maybe not) there is no way you can fix certain Windows "eccentricities" without full permissions for just about everything. and again the lengthy user threads about Windows USB driver problems are legendary, going back to Windows 98 and beyond.

I had trouble connecting with my XW-P1 and USB at first and honestly I'm not sure how I managed to fix it except I remember having to delete a Casio USB driver and installing a different Casio USB driver-I seem to recall there was actually another driver posted somewhere (maybe an older one) that worked when the current one posted at Casio did not. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sorry to drag up such an old post, though as I am currently using my G1 with my DAW I encountered the exact same problem that the OP had (except with Windows 10). Thanks to a Google search, it brought up this thread and I can confirm that Mike's suggestion that the USBOutSel should be set to KEY solved my USB connection issue!
