Zergmazter
Hi! Im trying to use my P1 as the master and G1 as the slave, but i dont understand what the point is. Ok so without MIDI my keyboards funcion normal. The moment i add midi to the mix setting my P1 as the master and my G1 as the slave, my G1's arp, phrase, step sequencer shut off and no sound is made.I thought it would sync my keyboards not disable one. Is what im trying to do possible or am i doing something wrong? Midi is like my worst enemy! It always kept me from using my previous synths to their full potential. Luckily there is this forum
Display Name
Yeah something is up here. Lets start at the top: You are running a 5-pin MIDI OUT of the P1 to the 5-pin MIDI IN of the G1. What does your audio chain look like? Both running into a mixer or do you have the LINE OUT from the G1 going into the LINE IN of the P1? Brad Saucier
Do you have the step sequencer on the P1 playing? The G1, as slave, will be frozen until the clock starts running on the P1. Did you shut off the XW's and restart them after changing their sync modes?
Zergmazter
Ok let me be a lil more clear lol. Lets look at my G1. All is fine, then i turn my sync mode to slave and my tempo light shuts off, and as a result the arpeggiator, step sequence, and anything related to tempo stops working. I made my P1 the master and shut them both off and turn them back on together, but my G1's tempo is still dead unless i turn the sync off . Im trying to have my G1 follow its master's tempo but it just gives up and shuts off all tempo related tools.
Zergmazter
Oh and by the way im doing Line out to out. Is is out to in?
Brad Saucier
To clarify syncing, when the G1 is slaved to the P1, the G1 needs to use P1's tempo/clock as the clock source. This is why the G1 tempo light goes off. It is no longer needed. When the P1 is not playing a beat, the G1 has no clock source and cannot play anything. Start the step seq on the P1 and then the G1 will sync to it's timing.
Display Name
Oh and by the way im doing Line out to out. Is is out to in? Yes LINE OUT from one XW to the LINE IN of the other. Whatever one is the one with the LINE going IN is where you monitor from.

Zergmazter
Im in wonderland with my synths I've been learning my MIDI lately. Im amazed at all the things that i can do when my P1 & G1 are linked together. The most obvious thing that i've noticed is that i can do more complex stuff without overwhelming my synths since i have them split the load 50/50, reducing the chances for lag or them going out of sync (If you have actually taken it that far like i have) I shall call my set up from now on XW-PG1, cuz thats really what it is
Null
One other thing. Brad covered the sync MIDI clock issue pretty well, but another thing to remember is that the XW's step sequencers operate on channels 9 thru 16 and they do not output on those channels by default. You'll also have to slog thru the miserable MIDI Mixer menus in performance mode in order to permit those channels to be transmitted from your P1. Zergmazter
Ahhh thats good to know! I was so far just using the 2 sequencers individually, but synced. I will deff try and learn to MIDI them aswell.
