problems with keys

Hi, I am new to this site. My daughter has an XW-P1. Which we got her for xmas. Everything has been fine with it, until yesterday, when the last 5 keys have stopped working. I want to eliminate a user error before sending it back. Is it possible to turn off keys?

Sorry for the dumb question. I don't know anything about keyboards, etc etc

Thanks

Power up the keyboard, press the TONE button and select, say, the stereo grand piano voice. If the lowest five keys still don't work then you might really have a problem. Yes, keys can be disabled for certain sounds within Performances, which might be what your daughter experienced (but there's not enough info to know for sure). By default the XW powers up in PERFORM(ance) mode. When you select TONE mode, the sound you select plays across the entire keyboard. It's the mode you want to be in when auditioning sounds or you just want to play a piano or organ piece, for example.

PS. This advice assumes that the KEYSHIFT button is turned off, as per Brad's reply above.

What opens so many possibilities is the phrase "last five keys". Assuming you meant "lowest" and not "highest" this sounds similar, but not exactly the same as what happens when you activate "KEYSHIFT" by pressing its button and lighting up its LED: you don't hear the tone you are playing on the lowest octave of the keyboard since that octave is now reserved for shifting the key (all the pitches) of any step-sequencer pattern that may be playing or you may activate. But that is more than five keys.

I had / have a problem with the highest keys, the right side, there is no velocity ;)
After a lot of testing I noticed that it happens only with a few tone presets. Some work ok, some not. It looks that in performance, drawbar & synth there is no problem. Only when I use the "bad" tones in hexlayer or so, it is giving problems.
But to send it again to a service point.... well just to much work, I can live without those keys. I marked them with a red pencil ;)

Which tones are giving you trouble? I'll try it on mine. There should be key velocity all across the key range, except drawbar organs which should have no velocity. As far as 5 dead keys-if I shift the octave setting with a tone-I think the samples with PCM sounds only go out to a specific "keymapping" range. If I exceed this range with octave shift, there could be keys that seem not to work-but they're really just beyond the keymapping for that PCM sound-I'll have to try this out to be sure. I seem to remember there is a limitation with certain tones-the samples were only stretched so many octaves in my XW-P1. The XW for a beginner must be a daunting prospect.
