teknoman
I posted yesterday about any vocoder presets in the xw series. While surfing the web at work(where else)I came across the roland aira series .four machines ,bassline ,drum machine, small synth, and vocoder.i watched the videos with some detached interest. Why because with the exception of the vocoder ,the g1does all that .I mean I watched the guy act like he needed four arms.!!!!he,s moving from drum machine to bass machine to vocoder to synth Made me dizzy just watching him.He spent more time doing that than playing.Seems to me someone is scared. They claim that the synth is a logical successor to the sh 101.Uhhhhh no. I have a sh101.simple with sliders .Theirs has blinking lights, knobs. As a matter of fact they all light up like cheap discoballs.! Anyone prone to epilepsy should stay away.Everyone else go check the toys out.Silly ,shame. I like the vocoder and that,s it.The 80s are over. zymos
Yet those things have generated a ton of excitement and will probably sell like crazy.
SmoovJazzy55
I don't think Roland is scared of Casio, but I do think they are no longer innovative. With the exception of their V-Drums I bought a few years ago they don't have anything out that wows me. As far as their latest release, I'll stick with my XWs and my Maschine Studio.
Leon
For 250£ (that how much i paid) there is nothing on the market which can compete with XW P1 /G1
Display Name
They seem to be simultaneously going after the EDM / old skool market with the Aria line. They seem a little pricy for what they are, esp. when you compare them to the XW's. I agree, except for the vocoder, it seems the XW-P1/G1 pretty much handles everything the separate synth, bass and drum machine modules do.
AlenK
Roland stuff has always been relatively pricey. But if you are into EDM the entire Aira (pronounced eye-ra, ear-a or air-a depending on which web site and video you watch!) suite of products may seem like a dream come true (assuming said EDM enthusiast is not a total analog snob). Personally, these products are not my cup of tea but any and all competition is healthy. No manufacturer gets to rest on their laurels for long!
zymos
Also- it's not like sports- Roland's success (or not, we'll see) doesn't take anything away from other products/manufacturers.
MaliceCooper
I doubt that Roland is scared of Casio. While, I have no reason to buy anything from the AIra line, I think that it will be nice entry level gear much like the XW's are. I think depending on what you want to do, the Korg Kross and Yamaha MX are both serious competition to the XW's. And competition is good. And competition is good.Agreed - the Aria System 1 module really competes in the same space as the Artutia MiniBrute and Novation Bass Station. Put up against those, I think the Roland is a good product, even if not true analog like the other two. But the 4 voice poly and on-board effects make it winner for me.
teknoman
Hmmm.i agree with the disagreements. I was watching at 5am ,so perhaps my judgement was clouded.having played dance music since in the 80s,using multiple synths, just seems like a lot of work to me.Then again I ain't young ,so there!lol
