MIDI recording into a DAW

Hi,

I'm sorry, if I have overlooked the answer here in the forum, but I have the following problem:

I want to MIDI record the Solo Synth to a DAW together with the real-time manipulation (with the knobs 1-4).

If I play a note, there is a MIDI signal being sent to the PC with the DAW, but the use of the knobs (e.g. "Cutoff" with knob 1) does not send any MIDI signal to the PC.

And I checked any MIDI setting I could find, but no success.

Any idea?

Thank you in advance.

In order for the XW's K1 thru K4 knobs to transmit MIDI messages to external devices, the keyboard has to be in "Performance" mode, otherwise, their signals stay internal to the XW.  See the bottom of the left hand column and the top of the right hand column of Page 34 of the Owner's Manual for their default settings and how to customize them when the board is in "Performance" mode.  If for some reason, you can not have it in "Performance" mode during your recording, then you would need to just record it to the internal Phrase Sequencer, save it to an SMF (.mid) on the SD Card and port it to your PC DAW on that.  The sequencer records everything the knobs do during the recording process, but in this case, since the keyboard would not be in "Performance" mode, you would not be able to customize the Control Change (CC) messages during the recording process, and they may not be what you want.  In that case, once the file is imported into your DAW, you would need to go to the affected tracks and do blanket (bulk) edits between certain points or for the entire track to change all CC-XY messages to CC-WZ messages in order for them to have the desired effect on the finished product.  You would also need to stay aware of the Phrase Sequencer's 1600 note per phrase bogey, which can be drastically reduced by controller actions that need to be recorded as well, so it may be necessary to fragment your song over several phrases and concatenate them in your DAW.  Most of this is covered on Pages 47-49 of the manual.  I know, that's probably a bit more involved than you would have liked, but it gives you a way to get the job done, and these things usually become fairly routine after you've done them a couple of times.  AND . . . you only get into this if you can't have the XW in "Performance" mode as you record to your DAW, otherwise you are in business.

Good luck !
