Arrrggghhh!!!

Hello! I am new to the forum and just purchased the WK-7600.  Very familiar with arranger keyboards--have owned Yamaha PSRs, and currently have owned the Roland G-70 Workstation for 6+ years.  I really like the Roland, except it's so heavy--and with the hard case, weighing in at 75+ pounds.  I'm too old for this!  But, I know how to work that keyboard, use the arranger (style accompaniment) mode on gigs, etc., and have done many functions including style editing, etc.

Nevertheless, the Casio has me perplexed-to say the least.  So far, I can turn it on...lol!  It will get better.  I'll be back for reading comments and help.

One question, the Casio website has Data Editor (see attached image) software for other keyboards.  Is there such a program that anyone is aware of for the WK-7600.  It would make my life easier to do parameter settings on the computer and transfer via the Data Manager (file transfer program).

Thank you!

Lisa

Welcome to the Casio Music Forums and congratulations on your purchase of the WK-7600.  I wish you luck and much enjoyment with it.  While the newer model CTK/WK keyboards allow for some very minor editing (tweaking, actually) of their tones/patches/sounds/programs (whatever you prefer to call them), it is nothing compared to what is possible with the XW synths and PX5S, which allow heavy editing of nearly every tone parameter.  Consequently, no software editor was provided for the CTK/WK's, as Casio apparently thought it was essentially un-needed, but I must say from my own experience with the WK-7500 and CTK-7000, if you are doing a lot of "tweaking" of a lot of tones, a software editor would be a nice convenience, especially when you get to dabbling around with DSP settings.  The older CTK/WK models of some years ago had a "Synth" mode and a software tone editor, but with the newer models, Casio has apparently decided to take a different approach to its arranger keyboards versus its synths.

Welcome from another AAAARRRGGGHHH! poster (I posted like that about the XW sequencer awhile ago!) I have requested through Casio tech support that they consider developing another editor for my PX-350 which has many of the same auto-arranger functions as your WK, and limited access to many of the editing features I'd like.

I have midi connected the PX to other Casio data editors, thinking there might be some cross-compatibility, no luck there. I've also found some software programs that allow me to create and store my own auto-arrangements on computer then transfer to my PX-350 with the thumb drive/ data manager, including auto-arrangements from Yamaha's series. Check out some of the other posts under the WKs in general and the PX series including mine, maybe that will help a bit as several of us including Ted have worked on getting more out of these Casios than one would think. Great forum here, many really good people posting. Casio's Mike Martin is also top-notch for support and knowledge, one the best I've come across. Thanks for posting.

There is a Casio Data Manager 6.1 application for the WK-7600. I haven't tried it yet so I'm not real familiar with its capabilities. I'd post a link but the forum software is screwy at the moment (won't let me paste in a URL, and the "Link" function is broken). But if you Google "Casio Data Manager," it will take you right there to download it.

A quick glance at the manual suggests there isn't an editor like for the XW-series or PX-5S. However, I've seen some threads here with user tones that you can upload into the instrument. Looks like editing a user tone requires menu-diving on the keyboard though.

You are correct.  The Casio Data Manager is exactly that - a data transfer and management utility.  No tone editing capability is included.  Since tone editing (tweaking, actually) on the CTK/WK-6XXX/7XXX units is somewhat limited, Casio apparently thought an editor would not be necessary, but from my own experience, when you are doing a lot of "tweaking" on a lot of tones, an editor would be a welcome convenience, particularly when you get to dabbling around in the DSP settings.  While the IDES Data Manager for the older CTK/WK units did include a tone editor, sadly, it is not compatible with the voice architecture of the newer boards.
