Why did Casio loose the synthesizer market so long ago.

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering why casio left the synthesizer market so long ago when they actually had awesome synths. Somehow I think of numerous things like maybe some patent issue , financial reason , competition to big or innovation failure. Whatever it might be clearly had an impact on releasing new things. I'm glad about the XW and PX5 but that certainly cant be it with the success of the VZ, CZ in the pass.

I'm trying to get the history out of certain brands of synth what they where how they did it and what have become of them, I'm certain Casio did not forget their part of recreating sonic history which was more relevant then they would expect. But certainly there must be something which mark their technology more then recreating sounds. For instance I'm twisting and turning my XW-G1 for some secret easter egg which might be a nod to the past....nothing maybe something at the different modules together cant find any.

And still for some reason I find the sounds to create and emulate a joy its a portable package of things.

I can't compare the G1 with its counterparts from way back it certainly has all of the function needed today to do music even more. Its a lazy thing to compare it with the past synths even more not relevant in a sense me thinks.

But now  when I'm seeing the PX5S that one certainly surprised me as it is a stage piano and also a synthesizer. Being out of the market for so long one would expect a cautious entry to see if there a market for a different concept and yes it was, I have a feeling Casio might though they lost more then they bargain for. And being cautious is a good thing market wise. But a brand is still a brand and wont loose its stronghold that easy for decades for it to pass and come.

When I'm watching the video where the engineers explain what drives them I'm trying to be cautious not to over think things and jinx thoughts with " but it could be a better VZ or CZ", That would be like rejuvenating old things and from a market perspective that would be a no no to sell. The market has changed allot tho synths are sold as workstation or bass station.  The XW series stands as a synth with the typical settings to build sounds which is still unique. Crazy to say it seems the market getting along with the typical synthesizer action one would expect, Korg has the king korg , Novation etc.

History wise in the pass a synthesizer with lushes features on the technical side was an addition  to expand ones sonic preference and certain brand got their typical sound scape. Like the Moogs , Jupiter etc. Casio was no different it dominated the nineties in the background  and did it with 2k dance music as well.

Still the answer is still lacking why casio left the synthesizer market and as of today the market has changed way more then in the pass, A software synth can do much and more software synthesize engine are being added each time with even more functionality.

What ever the synthesizer market be I hope the Hybrid Concept of Casio will survive this.

The success of certain brands was the continuity of their products, I'm sure that if the CZ and VZ line continued until today would be a success. If the CASIO stand firm in the part of the XW synths line, the beautiful piano and leverage arrangers'm sure will return to match with other brands. The XW line here in Brazil is being welcomed as sum honest prices with unique features. You just need to have patience.
Never had a CZ but when I met him for the first time and at that time you had those Yamahas with small keys and PSR line had not yet dawned. I could feel that this was not a simple keyboard instrument and he was facing pro professional use. And I believe that the company should now seize the market because many brands are giving resources and technologies will small doses ,CASIO  and can get along well and we know that the differential has a long way to go what matters is not stopping.
