Ebonivor Posted June 5, 2014 Share Posted June 5, 2014 For what it's worth, I already have a transpose function set up in MIDI Designer as part of a layout I've been working on. There are two options: buttons for plus and minus 6 semitones; and another that uses a knob to cover plus and minus 12 semitones with up and down buttons and octave plus and minus buttons. It merely uses sysex messages to vary the PX-5S main coarse tuning. There are a couple of minor issues that I would like to improve and I might need to seek some help on those from SuperDan at MIDI Designer. I suspect that I have taken a different approach to the version Mike is working on, but all in all it works. I'm not sure whether I can post MD pages or layouts here, but I'm happy to email them to anyone who is interested in trying them out. Send me a PM in you like. I'll eventually upload the layouts, which include stage setting change buttons and knobs, pitch wheel controls, drum pads, tone preset buttons etc., to the MIDI Designer site, but I'm keen to see the final result of Mike's efforts first (in particular, he has already implemented System EQ which I have also been working on - I want to be able to use MD's presets to be able to adjust the EQ for different amps etc). Is it possible/probable that global transpose (semitones/octaves) will be implemented in the future via firmware, so that transpose can be done in a simple way with front panel buttons, as in most other keyboards? Brad Saucier Posted November 16, 2015 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Global transpose is easy on the PX-5s. Don't let the chatter on the forums scare you. It takes two button presses to get to transpose. Left hand - press system setting button Right hand - press enter That's it. Now the yes/no buttons are the transpose buttons. Pressing yes/no simultaneously resets transpose to default. Press exit to do other things. This entire process takes very little time. Having said that, if you really want dedicated transpose buttons, the PX-560 has that. However, the two models have a different set of features. You will have to choose based on your needs. Something like the layer octave shift but for a zone. I need a stage setting to have 2 zones go up an octave while two others remain unaffected. Must be doable, it's been around for awhile now. Many of us use other computer platforms for so many other functions already. And of course there is a very good software frontend for the PX5s, XW series and other on windows, but Midi Designer looks like a bump up in functionality. One is done by editing tone pitch, another is editing zone MIDI settings, and another is editing zone mixer settings. For the mixer: Press edit>state setting>mixer edit>course tune. BobbyC Posted January 9, 2019 Share Posted January 9, 2019 I should have mentioned PX-5s and the shift needs to be done in near realtime. I realize I could just make another stage setting but I'm trying to keep the number of stage settings down as I'm already over 5 banks of stage settings and have to write them on the set list to keep track of what's needed for each song. So I'm looking for a quick way to shift pitch by one octave on two zones with just a controller adjustment. Its funny that I've gotten so used to just tapping the screen on the MZ-X and turning the knob one click or setting the octave switch to just affect the voices needed. Set up a slider with target 1 like this.... Target RPN MSB 0 LSB 2 Send MSB Your min and max values will determine how much it transposes. Min 51 max 63 will do one octave. You'll just have to experiment to figure out your desired setting. You'll need to edit zone controller enable and turn off the slider for zones you don't want affected by it. PX-5S has a data editor for Windows or Mac. https://support.casio.com/en/support/download.php?cid=008&pid=58 The iOS app refered to in this topic is a third party app called "MIDI Designer". Some files (in our downloads section here) called "layouts" were created for the app which allows live control of various PX-5S functions, but does not offer full keyboard programming like the Casio data editor does.
