Mixer use in XW-P1

Hi there.

I'm a newcomer to the wonderful world of XW-P1. I already own a PX-5S, Casio is becoming more and more important in my set-up.

I'm having first experiences with XW-P1, and I'm quite sure I miss something... but I'm not having performance mixing right. I try to move drawbars, after pressing mixer button, but suddenly only the selected part is playing. So, if I have a performance with 2 or 3 parts, it must be possible to balance all volumes of all parts while playing them, right? I just press mixer button and then move sliders. What am I doing wrong?

By the way, I think XW-P1 is really great on HexLayers and SoloSynth. For some PCM, I think there is area for improvement. For example, electric pianos are not so playable. Is there an electric piano patch (even built with HexLayers) that you can suggest? Thx a lot!

Ok.

Let's see step by step.

+ Performance Mode

+ I choose performance 0-2 Advanced Hex. It is a 4-layers performance.

+ I press mixer.

+ If I move one slider, let's say the 1/9 slider (the first one), only the first layer plays. Why?

+ If I move the slider 2/10, the second slider, only the secon layer plays. And so on.

+ If I press part- I can go to ALL or MASTER (hard to understand the difference). Then I move 1 slider, and all the volumes change!

I want to have control of volume balance for all tones, while I play all of them.

Is it possible

I tried doing the volume changes while in performance mode , but It had no effect. The only way I was able to adjust the Individual Zone volumes was to go in and manually change each. If you saved it would keep them locked at whatever you changed them to. I'm assuming the performance is locked when its created. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I was able to do what you wanted by creating a hexlayer based the same performance. While not 100 % identical to the 0-2 Advanced Hex.. its close. While time consuming, I layered the same sounds(as close as my ears could help me) from this performance and turned it into a hex layer. It takes a little menu diving but I came up with a fairly close hex layer  .

Maybe some of the more advanced members know a way to do this in real time . Let me know. Maybe a good question for the next live clinic.

The mixer is intended to be used only within sequencer mode for live volume (loudness) or note adjustments. You have to be in sequencer mode to effect live changes with the slider controllers. If you are in performance mode as you have found these will have no effect on each part of the [erformance. Zones in performance mode have to be preset with relative volumes, and stored as a performance-sort of like a "multi" in a workstation.

Hex mode allows for live volume changes with the sliders-if I wish to bring sounds in and out and vary volume levels live, the sliders will do that in hex mode. But this doesn't solve your problem, since hex mode and performance mode need to be controlled as distinct functions. I think you could store a hex layer as a "tone" and use that as part of a performance, but I'm not sure you can control the relative volumes of the hex layer from within a performance. The manual is not clear about these issues, but I'm pretty sure you can only use the sliders for controlling relative loudness of each part with the mixer from sequencer mode, or with hex layers (repeating myself sorry!) Mike Martin, if you are following this post, is this correct?

By the way, I have a separate post asking for an explanation of the difference between the "master" and "all" slider settings as I am stilll after severl months not clear on how these are different, or even if they are different. No-one has responded so far, so I guess no one else knows either!

I can't believe.

What a strange and user-enemy implementation decision.

This is a big pity!

Let's wait for Mike Martin words, I can't believe it is not possible!
