question about the wk series

Hi

I want to buy the casio Wk 3300 cause I sold mine to buy the 7600 but I need some of the sounds and rythms from the 3300wk.

Its not that easy to find the exact model second hand in my town so I was wondering if other models of the WK series share the same rhythms and sounds.

Cause I see a lot of WK3000 WK 3200 and WK 3800

Thanks a lot

Here is a reply I made recently in another thread similar to this topic:

According to that old Casio international site I posted, the tone/rhythm compatibility groupings are as follows:

CTK-691 / WK-3000 / WK-3500

CTK-900 / WK-3200 / WK-3700

WK-3300 / WK-3800 / WK-8000

PX-410R / PX-575R  (Some data from this group may be compatible with the WK-3300/3800/8000 group.)

Occasionally, data will work on a non-compatible unit, but it is strictly a "cross your fingers and try" process.

Thank you but i think this refers more to people trying to ue sounds form one board into another right? What I need to know is if thre is much ifference in the bank sound of those boards.I guess I could only have that anwer from omeone who has used several models.I remember the guy at the store telling me that the only diference form the one I bought to another one was the MIDI or  card, omething about conectivity but the ouns where the same but I dont remember wich model it was...Its sa when a product is discontinued and not much info available

From Casio's standpoint, the incompatibilities apply to both tones (sounds) and rhythms.  Tone (sound) incompatibilities come mostly from differences in the sound engines from one model family to another.  Rhythm incompatibilities come mainly from three sources.  Some rhythms from newer or higher priced units may be too large to fit into the individual User Rhythm slots of the older or lower priced units and may need tones (sounds) that are not present on the older or lower priced units.  By the same token, rhythms from older units may need tones (sounds) that have been discontinued and are no longer provided on the newer models, but all of this applies to after market User Rhythms and Tones (sounds) while you are interested in recovering the presets that you lost when you sold your WK-3300.  I have a feeling that if you go with anything other than another WK-3300 or with a WK-3800, you may still be disappointed, as preset tones and rhythms can change noticeably from one model line or model year to another.  The WK-8000 should work for you also, but if you need easy portability, it is primarily a home-based 88 key console unit.

The only alternative I have to offer at this stage is for you to try to tweak the preset tones and rhythms on your WK-7600 to get as close as possible to what you are looking for.  This is a common "pastime" for those who upgrade from an older model to a newer one, especially when the new unit is a vast change from the older one.  I wish I had a better or easier solution for you, but sorry to say, I don't.

Best of luck !  Hope a WK-3300 or 3800 comes your way soon.

Regards,

Ted

Not to sound glib, but this is why you NEVER sell gear if you are fond of certain sounds / beats. At the very least sample the ones you like before you sell them. Better to wait and save a little longer and keep your old gear until you are sure you don't need it anymore. I know this doesn't help you now, just a word to the wise for the folks thinking of selling old to but new.  :)

You are  sooooo right.Lesson learned. The WK3300 was my first keyboard and due to the low price and Casio low fame compared to Yamahas etc I just couldnt wait to upgrade.I just asumed it would have the same sounds but impelmented(silly I know).

I wanted to skip the learning curve by sticking to Casio

Anyway Ive come to learn that WK3300 and WK3800 share sounds except for the disk, extra modulation wheel and stereo output in the 3800. there seem to be more Wk 3800's around so I probably buy it if I cant find the Wk 3300

I have played the WK 3300 and own a WK 3700 and WK 7600 .. Set me straight if I get something wrong  but there is no modulation wheel on the 3300 which to me kills the organ use ..plus no outputs on the back of the WK 3300 only headphone jack on front... The regular piano sounds on the WK 7600 are much better than the WK 3700 but I miss the modulation wheel to control the Leslie rotary sound that the WK 3700 had...Ten years ago for traveling light to gigs mainly used Roland JV for piano.horns strings and synth..Wk 3700 for Organ, electic piano strings horns.. Now Hammond XK 2 for Organ sounds and the WK 7600 for all other sounds
