pax-eterna
Just coming back to the PX-5s world - mostly logistical IE size of available vehicle now and weight (and the Korg M50 88 is too long/heavy), but also because I got sick of waiting for the new Arturia Keylab 88....and in any case even though I will be using the PX primarily with pc based vsti's, at least it DOES have a sorta useable piano and EP for emergencies. Okay my question is what is the recommended latest factory stage/sounds set to install and OS update to run? Have there been many changes over the past few months? Thanks
smithh
I think the piano and EPs are much better than for 'emergency' use. Here is my experience: 1. Install the latest OS firmware 1.132. Install the latest stage settings 2.53. Then go through the instrument, finding the sounds you like least. Replace these with the best from the community.4. Then go through the sounds you will use most, and tweak to taste. Often, significant improvements are very easy. The PX 5S is a curious instrument in some ways. Because a stage setting hides so much power (zones, effects, alternate layers, hexes etc), I reckon more than 50% of the stage settings can be made more impressive with simple changes. But because of that power, the change one person might make is very different to another person. In other words, its hard to show it all off in the stage settings as shipped. Joe Muscara
Yes, grab one of the two ALL files at this link, depending how you want your banks set up (the page describes the regular order vs. the alternate order available). Or grab both and see which one suits you. Then tweak as smithh describes. http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/6324-px-5s-updated-all-file/ Personally, I think these Stage Settings show off the PX-5S very well. Yes the PX-5S has a lot of potential under the hood, a prospective buyer has to hear and/or see that potential. Some people can only hear what they let themselves. Others will realize how much they can do.
pax-eterna
Thanks guys, yeah I did own one before (hence the "coming back" comment) but the piano sounds whilst okay have too short a sample time for me. Makes it a tad difficult to play slow ballads without the sound dying away way to early. The sounds are fine for "busy" songs or rock/pop/funk stuff. Thymas
I just came across Mike's Updated All File v2.5.Wow! Especially loading the alternate order, this is a big improvement over the default set of Stage Settings.I've only had my PX-5S a couple of weeks. I could never find what I wanted in the "random" default order of the default stage settings. Love the new sounds, love how easy it is to look for the right sound amongst those available. It really should be recommended in one of the pinned posts to start off by loading this file.(It just needs a PDF showing the alternate order.)Only trouble is I can't work out what to replace when installing new stage settings. I need another bank or two.
