CASIO PX850 connection to Midi sound module

Hi David. The PX-850 is not designed to control other MIDI gear like this  - you need a computer to act as a "host" as the USB is meant to go to a PC/MAC or iPad to control software. From there you can output to a module if you have the right audio interface
with a standard 5 pin MIDI DIN and providing your hardware / software is configured to send the MIDI signals correctly. You can also use a "box" from iConnectivity, which is in effect, the computer host. Research carefully and make sure wherever you buy your hardware from has a good return policy just in case. It WILL work, you just need to make sure all your ducks are in a row to make the signal chain function properly.

There is a bunch of posts about this somewhere. There are a few different kinds of midi converter boxes on the market that have the USB midi connection going into it and standard midi "din" connectors out which is what I think you are talking about.

I haven't tried either so can't guarantee if these work. The extra cost I guess can only be justified for the increased convenience and portability of a small box instead of an entire computer or laptop although the midisport looks pretty affordable if it works. The sad thing is that almost all the new smaller keyboard controllers are going this way which again proves money over quality. anyone who has alot of midi equipment-the entire concept of midi was to have a universal interface to connect many midi devices in a chain-to save money as a usb midi interface is cheaper than a dedicated din midi connection which requires additional ics and an optocoupler, apparently too extravagant for manufacturers now.......
