anupchopra
We would like to choose either PX-5S or PX-350 for my 9 yrs old son who is ABRSM: Grade 1 piano player in UK. I understand that PX-350 has a 3 pedal unit connector at the bottom whereas PX-5S does not. If we choose to buy PX-5S, can somebody please elaborate on how not having a 3 pedal connector will impact his piano education(if at all)? Thanks in anticipation. anupchopra
Can the two pedal connectors available with PX-5S perform the function of the outer two pedals of a real piano? His teacher revealed today that they would rarely use the middle pedal in the real piano neither during the lessons nor during the exams, so theoretically PX-5S configurable two pedal connectors should suffice. But not sure as I have just read the PX-5S manual and do know the functions the outer two pedals of a real piano perform.
Choppin
I'm not sure what your goals are, but if your son is learning to be a classical piano player, it may be best to have a piano that resembles or performs similarly to an actual piano. The PX-5s is designed to be portable, and it has a fairly deep synthesizer. If you don't need that type of functionality, you may be better off getting something from the CELVIANO series - which resembles a real piano a little more closely - complete with 3 pedals and speakers. The px-5s pedals can be configured to mimic most of the functionality of the outer pedals. The sustain pedal is "all or nothing" - there's no half pedaling. The "soft" pedal can be set to a specific volume and also the change in volume can be graduated at a certain speed. Also the px-5s does not have a built in speaker. You would need separate amplification or headphones to hear the sound.
Display Name
I love the PX-5S - it is my favorite keyboard of all time - but I think you really want a PX-350 for your needs. The PX-350 is an excellent digital piano.. same action and overall piano samples as the PX-5S. The PX-350 also has built in drum beats which will make playing fun as he advances. Much more appropriate for this application.
