MIDI Controller

Hi Edu and welcome to the Casio Music Forums!

What MIDI controller are you thinking of using? If is USB only then you will need to run something in between to act as a "host". If it had 5 pin MIDI din then you simply run the a standard MIDI cable from the controller's MIDI OUT to the PX-5S MIDI in. The PX-5S will receive MIDI Channels 1-4 for zones 1-4, respectively, by default.

If you can provide some more details of your exact set-up and exactly what you are trying to do we can help you better. The more details, the better! Cheers!

So, the transmission channel per zone is the same that receiving channel?

If zone 1 transmit on channel 1, casio will play zone 1 if receive notes on midi channel 1?

Not exactly.  The 4 zones can transmit out on whatever channels you choose or not at all.  However, the 4 zones will always receive on channels 1-4.  It's important to understand that distinction.

Also be aware that the Px 5s receives midi on 16 tracks - the first 4 corresponding to zones 1-4 - so if you transmit from an external source to channel 6, the Px-5s will play back on midi Track 6 independently from zones 1-4.

I connected my Controller (Sansom Carbon 61) with my PX-5S via MIDI 5 pin.

But the sound setted in PX-5S is the same sound out in controller.

Is there any way to play different sounds in controller and PX-5S?

It's happen because the Carbon MIDI channel is the same as the PX5s. If your Stage Setting has layers/split, you have to turn off the Local Control of zone to be controlled by Carbon. For an example, a Stage Setting has Bass on left keys and the Piano on right keys, you disable Local Control of the Bass and set the MIDI channel of this zone to the same number to your controller, then you can use the Piano from PX and Bass controlled by your Carbon. Remember that Piano and Bass are the different MIDI channels in each zone. I don't know wich MIDI channel is default from Carbon.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
