what purpose does the "audio in" port serve?

I'm trying to use some speakers from my computer, and was wondering if this stage piano can get sound from just plugging in a normal 3.5 mm audio plug-in, or is the only way to get sound output is to use an 1/4 " adapter, and plug it in from the headphone jack? I hope this question makes sense, so any help will be greatly appreciate.

Essentially, to clarify, my goal is to find a workaround, from using a 1/4 " adapter, and just use instead the 3.5 mm cables, since that is what all my headphones, speakers, etc are in, and the only port those plug into is the "audio in". Thanks!

No problem using the speakers and the headphone out jack. The audio ins are basically for convenience.  Say I wanted to gig with a PX-5S, another keyboard and an iPad for backing tracks or synth apps.  I could run the other keyboard into the LINE IN jacks and the iPad into the 1/8" audio in jack on the PX-5S and use all three without needing a separate mixer.
