Shaolin Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Hi there. Trying to understand if this is a normal thing or if I may have a detective unit. My Casio CT-S1 plays different tones via speakers with quite similar volume level as expected. However when I plug headphones (I've tried several), some tones are at "normal" volume at mid level of the volume knob (I.e. piano, organ) while some are very low (I.e. flute/mellotron). To the point where if I turn volume to the max with the flute it's still less that what I would like. Anyone else experiencing something similar? Thanks. Quote
Brad Saucier Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 What type of headphones are you using? Quote

I've actually used a few different ones to rule out that it was a faulty one. I've also tried today with an external speaker that takes audio in via mini Jack and the issue remains. I'm more and more inclined to think it's a defect since when I see demo videos in YouTube that are recorded via the headphone jack I don't notice significant volume different as they loop through different sounds. Brad Saucier Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Can you record an audio file from the headphone jack and post here? Quote

Brad Saucier Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Ahh yes, something sounds faulty in the headphone connection. Since you've tried multiple headphones known to be functional, I would contact the seller for help. They may offer a replacement. Quote

I received the product this week and got their extra warranty so hoping for a smooth process:) Btw seems that as a newbie you can only reply a few times within 24h, that's why I didn't write earlier. Thanks again. 2 Quote
Bill the Baxman Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I just got a CT-S1 and I have this symptom too. What I observe is that like many commonly available headphones, mine have a TRRS connector because the headphones have a built-in microphone. If I fiddle with the jack and pull it partway out, I can get to a spot where the sound is a normal volume. And if I use a pair of TRS headphones without mic support, then volume sounds normal. Not sure if this is a defect in the connector or just the way it was designed. Quote
Brad Saucier Posted January 7 Posted January 7 The keyboard is designed for a TRS stereo plug. TRRS headphones with built-in mics are not recommended. Quote
Solution Bill the Baxman Posted January 7 Solution Posted January 7 On 9/27/2022 at 9:11 AM, Shaolin said: I've actually recorded a small video, hopefully you can access. https://www.dropbox.com/s/q52iljl8gdak57y/20220927_122405_1.mp4?dl=0 It's hard to see but I found one frame in this video where it looks pretty clear that the little speaker being connected has a TRRS connector. I guess it's a little videoconferencing speaker with a built-in mic? Anyway I think that's why the volume is low for some patches. Like Brad says, apparently the CT-S1 only works right with a TRS connector. 1 Quote
