AlbySinger Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 OK - I am a real noob with this so please be kind 🙂 I have a CT-S500 and I want to play its sounds via another keyboard (Casio CDP-S110). Have connected both through my iPad and using the Audiobus app to route them. So far so good, and I can play the CT-S500 this way fine but only the first (Stage piano) sound. If I select another tone on the CT-S500 nothing changes? What am I doing wrong?  Thanks in advance Quote
morhra87 Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 (edited) Make sure you have the latest firmware installed on the CTS500 and in Settings change "midi in 1-5Ch Port" from "C" to "A". (It is added in the latest firmware) ver. 1.06 I control my CTS500 with a Kawai ES920 and really enjoy having access to the additional sounds and also blending with the great sounds on the Kawai. I am using a Doremidi UMH-21 host box with a midi din cable to the Kawai and an USB cable to the CTS500. I like being able to set up tones manually on the Casio via the knobs, selector wheel and saved registrations instead of using midi change program commands. Can't find a way to make a direct connection work. I understand I need a USB host. Is that right? Truly appreciate a reply. Thank you. Quote

Thank you.  Yes you'll need a host device between the two keyboards. That can be a computer or one of the standalone USB host boxes out there on the market. Quote
Bzagal Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Thank you for your prompt reply. As none of my keyboards have 5-pin MIDI connections, most MIDI host boxes won't work (I did some research). Is there any USB host box that works with two USB-only devices that you recommend? Quote

Chas Posted January 4 Posted January 4 (edited) You can use any computer as a MIDI host with appropriate patch/ routing software such as MIDI Patchbay. You connect your USB MIDI devices (Privia and S500) to your computer/ laptop, then route the MIDI via the MIDI Patchbay software.  The video example below shows how I was able to get my XW-PD1, that has USB MIDI only, to communicate with my 5 pin DIN MIDI CZ101 using my computer as a MIDI hub. In that case I was also using a MIDI interface so I could connect via the CZ's MIDI DIN, but you wouldn't need that if you are only using USB MIDI devices.  One caveat with USB MIDI is to only connect to your computer via its dedicated USB ports.
