Mike Martin Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Hi everyone, I've been trying to get to the bottom of some problems we've been having here at the forum for quite a while. The cost of maintaining the site seems to be rising exponentially. After some research it seems that the use file attachments individual posts as well as uploads to the "Downloads" area of the site has been reaching some extremes. Understand that we want this forum to remain a place where we can all discuss and share our passion and love for these instruments but some limitations need to be put in place. Please use an outside site such as Soundcloud to post music. Do not attached MP3 files or .Wav files to posts. Do not upload video as an attachment, please use a site such as Youtube and post the link here. Do not upload anything that you do not have the copyright permission to do so - example .MID files. This puts the entire community at great risk. If you do upload an attachment do not upload it to multiple posts, simply link back to the original. As a result of some of the issues, I'll be deleting some large content this is causing us to exceed our hosting limits. This unfortunately will result is some broken links or missing files from previous posts over the years. I'm investigating hosting options to remove some of these limitations, in the meantime please help us maintain the forum by respecting the requests here. Let me know if you have questions or comments. 3 2 Quote
Chas Posted March 4 Posted March 4 (edited) Do the files uploaded to the "Downloads" section cause many issues, in particular PDF files/ scans of User and Service Manuals? If they do, another option is to use the Internet Archive for hosting the files, and post links to those files in this forum. There are already a number of Casio PDFs and scans on the Internet Archive, though the only downside is that it would be harder to search for specific files and to catalogue those files via CMF. Here's the list of current Casio related literature already available on the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/search?query=casio Edited March 4 by Chas Quote
Mike Martin Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 Chas, The PDFs aren't a big problem. It has mostly been 100+ MB files that are uploaded multiple times. It seems that some people have been uploading a file and posting it over and over across several topic and forum areas. I've cleaned most of the big stuff up. Fingers crossed that I've reduced our server requirements. 3 Quote

Mike Martin Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 A follow-up note. I did upgrade the hosting. In the end it wasn't that expensive but a couple of the rules still need to stay in place. - Don't upload video directly, use another service and post a link here - Do not upload anything with copyright issues - such as .MID files of popular songs. - Please try to use other services such as Soundcloud for audio examples. Do not upload .wav files here. 4 Quote
