Howdy All,

At the moment, I have a WK-7600 which saves recorded songs in .cms format.

But I want to have a 61 key Board with features as close as what I have now.

The CTK 7200 is almost nowhere to be found, so I'm considering the CT-x5000.

But, the CT-X-5000 looks like it saves files in a CMF format.

I want to have songs that will be interchangeable between the 7600 and whichever other board I get.

I was also looking at the MZ-x500, but again nowhere to be found.

Is there a conversion program for .cms to .cmf?

Or are there any other options?

All of these models can export songs in SMF (.MID) format for compatibility.   The Casio proprietary format for each series of keyboards is really only useful for the specific keyboards they're made for since it includes the unique system track data, tone data specific to that model.  SMF is probably the best way to move songs to a new keyboard for this reason.

I think so.  System tuning is one of the settings stored in the system track or header data of the song.  Technically an SMF can also store MTS (MIDI tuning) as a sysex message, but it may not be supported by the keyboard.

Perhaps some CT-x5000 users could shed some light.

My WK-7600 will record and save and play back a song in .cms using A=432hz tuning. But when I save that same song as a midi file on the WK-7600 and play it back as a midi in card mode, it plays back in A=440. I can't play along with it with my guitar which is also tuned at 432hz.

I notice that the CT-X5000 uses a cmf format, which appears to be some type of midi format. It has the settings to tune down to .1 hz accuracy, so will the cmf hold 432 hz on playback or if also saving as smf?

Ultimately, I want to be able to record a song on one keyboard at 432hz and be able to play it on another keyboard, with minimal work.

I have checked a few things.  On the CT-X5000, you can set master tuning to 432hz, and this setting will remain active for any MIDI files or internally recorded songs.  It doesn't get recorded into the files, rather it is a global system setting for the keyboard itself.  The keyboard will remember the tuning settings after powering off by turning on the "auto resume" function.  Hope this helps.

That is very important. That means that any midi file from any other board can be played on the CT-X5000 at 432 Hz.

Therefore, a midi can be a common denominator between other boards and the CT-X5000.

So a song could be created on the WK-7600, also saved as a midi, load into CT-X5000 and play at 432hz.

The procedure won't work in reverse because the WK-7600 doesn't allow midi file tuning to anything but 440 hz.

But that Program by Gintaker will convert a midi file to .CMS, so I could use it that way.

If I can't find a CTK-7200 any time soon, I may try the CT-X5000.

Is there software to convert other file formats to .CMF?

Just did some testing.

I set 7600 tuning to 432hz.

Go to Card mode load a midi song that I just saved. I hit START.

I hit Function to check Tuning and it is Blanked Out.

Hit stop and check tuning and it was set to 440Hz.

So it doesn't look or sound like it works.

Thank you for that.  I did some more checks with my CT-X5000 and have to amend a previous post.  With the MIDI files I have played from a USB drive, pressing start will reset master turning to 440, but unlike the 7600, the tuning can be changed during playback.  For internal songs stored in memory, tuning will remain wherever you set it.  Unfortunately the 5000 can't load MIDI files into internal memory.

I wondered about that. That is a Bummer.

The 7600 won't load midi into memory either.

So, unless there is a way to convert one format to another OR change the midi tuning in the file, there won't be total compatibility for what I need.

There is only one work-around so far; Record every song from the board as a .WAV audio and it should be playable with any supporting board.

Tedious, but doable.

Very good info to know.  For now, I need to look for a smaller board that uses .cms format.
