  1. I'm probably not the best to help here but we should make sure we're all talking about the same "control"s because there are a few. Which are you asking about? A ) the 4 physical Control knobs above the step sequencer (k1-k4) B ) the 4 Controller tracks within the step sequencer C ) Virtual Controllers D ) some other controller I haven't learned about yet
  2. Sounds like you're looking for a traditional multitrack sequencer. The XWs don't have one. There is a 9 track step sequencer (8-16) and track 16 can have chords. As mentioned, you can use the phrase recorder to add polyphonic sounds from channels 1-7 but they aren't multitracked (or rather, you can't edit them as you would a multitrack recording).
  3. I've taken to turning the OSC edit on, tapping OSC until it's set to all and then pulling the two portamento related sliders down to 0.
  4. Thanks again XW-Addict. I'm still trying to grok what goes where and when. After another 'wait, what happened??' today, I scoured the manual again and found a bit in the sequencer section about changing tones (but not in the mixer section!) that says Mixer data is *saved with the step sequence*. On one hand, that makes sense because you don't really use channels 8+ anywhere outside of the sequencer. On the other hand, it seems sorta backwards to me because you set the MIDI channel and internal-vs-external for channels 8+ in the performance. After I understand the topology of the instrument more it may make more sense.
  5. I use the sliders. Ipad app is definitely easier but the sliders are always there. Would be cool if the pattern buttons could be used to select which oscillator the sliders are controlling. The method to switch OSCs is clever but a little clumsy for me. Sometimes I look at those unused-when-editing-the-solo-synth pattern buttons and dream a bit.
  6. That's the ticket. Thank you very much. I didn't realize that there were two different mixers—one for the performance and one for the step sequence. Will try that tonight. Thanks!
  7. Hi, Hopefully I'm just missing something. I have a performance and I've loaded a sequence into it via Edit->Sequence. Hit "Mixer" and turned off all of the reverb and chorus because they didn't suit it. Saved the Performace. As soon as I save, the effect sends are reset to the level before I set them each to zero! Can someone tell me what I'm missing please? Do I need to save the mixer state separately? Tried that and couldn't sort out how to do it. Thanks!
  8. Ok. I think this is a bug. Or maybe it's a feature and I'm just missing something! Steps to reproduce: Create a sequence Turn on Key Shift (button on the panel) Transpose sequence by hitting a key other than the lowest C Stop sequence (can save or not here) Select new Untitled sequence Enter Step Programming mode Select a melodic track Play the keyboard Keys will be off by however many notes you transposed the last sequenceThat is: if you do not return a transposed sequence back to root (lowest C), the sequence will remember that for subsequently loaded sequences. If this is indeed a feature I'm not grasping (or even if I have this entirely wrong), an indication in the display (or turning the Key Shift button on at least) would help us know that things have been transposed automaticaly/magically. Am I high? Can anyone else reproduce this? Cheers, Will
  9. Did this video ever come to life? Presuming this is the 'Part 3' alluded to at the end of the "Sequencer part 2" video. Those are good topics!
  10. Cool idea to use the octave buttons though. In Seq mode, select a part and then the octave buttons make the change. Would be nicer than digging through menus. Would also be handy to have octave shift shortcuts in the scale editing screen.
  11. Hi All, New to the forum. I ran into this transposed-while-step-recording problem as well. Found Nee's post via searching and thought 'hurray!' Turns out, I don't think that's it. I think it has to do with having transposed the sequence via the keyboard previously and somehow not having reset it. Or perhaps saving it when it was in the transposed state? I'm not sure, I'll need to do some more testing but what fixed it for the sequence I was working on was: 1) Exit step sequencer mode 2) Turn on Key Shift (bottom left button) 3) Hit any key above C 4) Hit C 5) Turn off Key Shift 6) Go back to step edit and rejoice At least that's my working theory until I have time to try it again.
