  1. .....what a lovely stage piano, especially for the money. One niggle for me - love the onboard transpose button and the touch screen but why does the transpose only highlight on screen while on the main screen? Shame the small black strip with important info didn't stay permanently on the screen while going through sounds etc., I had a quick try of some other sounds - generally not great but I bought it for the keybed action, main piano sound, dedicated transpose and built in speakers are handy for rehearsal.
  2. Really looking forward to checking out the 560. Expression port and dedicated transpose buttons are a great addition.
  3. Does the Casio Privia PX5S come with a manual/discs etc., when new?
  4. Aye, I know it's not too bad.....should have a dedicated button mind you. But I thought there would have been a way to send the transpose info from the MOXF too. Ah well.....
  5. Hi, I'm primarily using the PX5S as a controller keyboard for the Yamaha MOXF6 (just received it a few days ago....they make a lovely couple ). If I transpose the MOXF (using the dedicated transpose buttons - hopefully Casio implement this in their next stage piano/keyboard) this data does not transmit to the PX5S. I need to go in and alter that on the PX5S itself. Anyone any idea on how to send the likes of the transpose data via midi?
  6. Just a quick follow up. Connected the MOX via 5 pin midi to both my NI K6 and the PX5S. Everything working like a dream now (NI K6 would randomly cut out and not be recognised when I first connected everything up this way, which was very strange. But I powered down and switched the USB port on the back of my PC for the K6 and thankfully it is working fine - weird......but it works!!). Thanks for the replies folks. Much appreciated as always.
  7. Hi Choppin, thanks for that mate. I've actually worked out whats wrong. When both the px5s and mox are set to act as controller I'm getting a "loop" type effect ONLY from the PX5S and the asio spikes in my Cubase meter. However, when I quickly change the MIDI IN/OUT to "midi" on the MOX (basically rendering it back to audio output only and the PX5S controlling it) the PX5S works fine. So I just need to do that quick change in the utility setting of the MOX dependent on which keyboard I want to use as a controller. I'm going to fool around with another 5 pin midi cable shortly and see if that can override the above issue. But even as it is, it's fine and not a major problem now I've sussed it out.
  8. No Brad, I use the PX5S for it's own sounds and for controlling midi. Basically, I want the PX5S to be able to control the MOX6 so that is why I have the 5 pin midi. I want to be able to record audio from both. I also want to use both as midi controllers, simply because for certain VSTs the synth action keys are more suitable than weighted keys - also the expression port on the MOX is another bonus. It is all working OK - it's just the sound from the PX5S when used as a controller isn't "right" as well as the asio spikes. I do think it's some sort of loop but it seems more prevalent in Kontakt strangely because I tried Halion 5 last night and it sounded OK. Weird and hopefully I can get it resolved. Kontakt sounds perfect with no asio spikes when using the MOX.
  9. I have the MOX6 and the PX5S connected to my PC via USB and then to each other via the 5 pin cable. I
  10. Brad, I actually think something like this is the case in Kontakt. Any advice on how to check/resolve?
  11. Hi, I've been trying just piano etc., but still no joy. Can't for the life of me work out whats going wrong!!
  12. Hi Scott. Thanks for replying. Yeah, I have it turned off.
  13. Hi folks, I have the PX5S and a MOX6 connected to my PC via a NI Komplete 6 audio interface (a great unit by the way). I can control any VSTs from either the MOX6 or the PX5S. So all good? .............not quite. For some strange reason the MOX6 controls the VSTs perfectly, with little asio usage. When I try to play the same VST from the PX5S you can visibly see the asio usage increase with each note and it spikes uncontrollably. As I said, the same VST with the exact same setup works perfectly via the MOX6. Is there a particular stage setting that is more suitable for controlling VSTs? Or does anyone have any idea how I can sort this issue? Many thanks.
  14. So there we go............the PX5S is so good I have ordered it twice!! As I said above I had a feeling I'd go back to it again but wanted to try the MOXF8 etc., and for the money and key feel etc., the PX5S is going to be my main controller keyboard with the added bonus of some great sounds itself. I'll match it up with my MOX6 at the minute and will upgrade to a MOXF6 when I see a pre-owned one around.
  15. I'll def have to get this sorted in that case. I'm not a "weakling" but I struggled to trigger velocity articulations in VSTs. Will report back from A&E when I give it another go
  16. Thanks Scott. I'll try that again when I get the keyboard again. As for the velocity - fast, hard, sitting on it...........pretty impossible to get that 127 velocity
  17. OK thanks Scott. Can I just ask you one other quick question in here rather than starting another thread......... myself and another PX5S user have been discussing the difficulty in triggering some articulations in MOXF patches when using the PX5S as a controller. I know the likes of MIDIOX can sort this when using a DAW but when just using the PX5S and the MOXF it is virtually impossible to trigger these articulations that need high velocity. I tried changing some settings on the PX5S before but still no joy and I feel like I am committing ABH on the PX5S - just not natural at all. It's a main gripe for both of us. Obviously it's not feasible to go in to adjust velocity on every patch on the MOXF but can you tell me everything that is possible to do on the PX5S to allow users to hit a 127 velocity without taking a sledgehammer to the keys!! Thanks again for all your help.
  18. Hi, say I was using a half damper pedal with Pianoteq 5 and using the PX5S as a controller - will this work OK?
  19. Yeah, I totally agree. I didn't even get close to seeing what it can do because I'm in the middle of changing my home studio around and looking for the right combination of equipment before I set it all in place. So while I had the PX5S for a few weeks it was very early days with such a deep keyboard/synth/stage piano/controller!!!! I do think I'll be getting it again and will ultimately pair it up with a MOXF6. I am also heavily in to my VSTs so my sonic capabilities should be pretty decent once I'm finished. So the hunt goes on now for a pre-owned MOXF6 and I'll likely buy the PX5S again. I was running out of time to return it so I HAD to make a decision. Shortly after having it boxed up to get returned I knew deep down I'd be buying it again but I just wanted to take a step back and evaluate the different keyboards/combinations that I have tried.
  20. I'd love to see Casio continue the PX range and release a PX6S with an expression port, a better user interface, nicer screen and improved "bread and butter" sounds like guitar, cello and brass etc., Dedicated buttons like transpose are always handy on a gigging type board so they should be added. I'd also like to see Casio release a 76 key controller keyboard with a semi weighted action. A few knobs and sliders but a really, really nice keybed and a low price could see this fly off the shelf. And finally..........how about Casio shake up the likes of Yamaha and dive in to the TOTL arranger market? But release a lightweight, 88 or 76 key arranger with a wonderful keybed with a superb sound engine and backing styles - easily comparable to the Tyros 5. That would shake things up a bit. Again, do this and keep the price around $1500 and the likes of Yamaha etc., will start to panic!! Do it!!
  21. So the PX5S has only been gone for a matter of days and I'm already missing it!! I think I may be hitting that "buy now" button again within the next week or two..........
  22. Just packed my PX5S back up again to go back. Brilliant board for the money and so much to love about it - but it just wasn't right for me, at the minute. I love the sound of the MOXF and have decided to go down that route (I already own a MOX6 that I find very nice.....so will be looking in to the MOXF line). Thanks for all the help on here over the past few weeks, it's been much appreciated. The PX5S has woken me from my Casio slumber and I'll certainly be keeping an eye on future releases and developments.
  23. Technically you are right re: the difference between keybed and key action........BUT, it's a commonly used general terminology that is used all the time and I personally regard it as a general term incorporating both As for Joe saying they are part of the same lineup/family, yes again - but I think it's safe to say the more recent PX5S would still standout to a prospective 2nd hand/used purchaser rather than the other models in that family. My point to the original question was if the extra bells and whistles of the PX5S interest you, even slightly, then it would be my preferred purchase over any other model in that family because you have the top model that would be easier to sell on in the future if you wanted to. The keybed/key action ( ) may be the same and if that is the ONLY thing that interests then of course that changes things.
  24. If it's strictly this keybed you want then the PX350 is indeed identical but for that little bit extra you are getting the latest model and while I'm sure some of the other Casio guys will be on to give more intricate analogies (as I've never tried the PX350) all I can say is that having such a superb stage piano with some lovely stage settings and user uploads to compliment the quality of the MOXF engine is ideal. Personally, I went for the PX5S because I got it at a good price and being the latest model meant that it will hold it's price better in the future rather than an older model. I'm talking as someone who hasn't even digged slightly in to what the PX5S can do, bar flicking through the stage settings, but I hope that can be of some help to you.
  25. Hi, it turns out that the MOX6 can't have USB midi and 5pin midi transmitting at the same time. A quick change in the settings allows me to determine which one I want, so everything is fine now!!
