  1. Great I'll try that! Also I tweaked the hammer response and I'm happy with the action now. I noted that in my other thread
  2. In fact its the best response so far in any weighted keyboard I've tried under $1,700. I'm impressed!! Wondering if anyone had a chance to compare the action of the PX-5S to the Roland 8RD 800?
  3. Okay I tweaked the settings as Scott and others suggested and it seems to be working a lot better!! <sigh of relief!!>
  4. Received the PX-5S today and not happy so far. The first disappointment is that it seems the slow rebound action defeats the purpose of the triple sensor for quick repetitions of the same key. (What good is the triple sensor if the keys do not bounce back fast enough to make it practical?) The second let down is the menu driven functions. First let me say that the manual packed with the unit is absolutely horrible and gives no real guidance on how to use this keyboard in a practical manner which is not good because the buttons, sound banks and understanding how to use the functions on the small LED driven menu is so counter-intuitive that it's driving me crazy. But here's the real kicker, the master settings do not include an easy set up to control the volume on the 4 zones for each of the 100 stage presets. Of course the manual is silent on this issue so you are forced to research on the web on how to do this. Now common sense would make you think there would be a global setting to do this across the board. But no,no no no. After watching a 14 minute video from MusicMan I learned to my disgust that you have to go knee deep into each of the 100 stage presets to reset the slider or knob to control volume for each of the zones. Is this for real? Please tell me I am missing something here. If this is true this seriously ruins the stage settings because unless you go in and change the slider or knob controls for each of the stage settings you are stuck with the preset zone volumes. What a dam. Shame. Please, please tell me this is not true otherwise I'm shipping this back tomorrow because it makes the stage presets unusable as is. You would think there would be 4 independent sliders to control zone volume right out of the box. Who the hell designed the architecture for this thing?
  5. Hi Choppin If what you say is true the that defeats the whole purpose of the triple sensor which was one of the main reasons I bought this keyboard. What a downer. I guess I'm back to the drawing board in researching other keyboards. Perhaps I should bite the bull let and get the Roland RD800. I'm so disappointed right now
  6. Will do as soon as I get back later!! For shitz and giggles can you try playing the intro to "Angry Young Man" and tell me what you think - You only have to play the the first few bars to get the idea.
  7. Okay I just received the PX-5S and to test the triple sensor action the first piece I tried was Billy Joel's Angry Young Man and so far I am not impressed. I've tried both the Casio concert stage piano and then tried my sample library Quantum Leap Pianos and the repetition response is no better than my Studiologic 900 XP. I must be doing something wrong? Is there a system setting I am supposed to use to activate the triple sensor on this thing?
  8. Thanks Scott and Brad for your replies. I highly value your opinions! There is no doubt the PX-5S is a great keyboard with great action but I just need to know if either of you had a chance to compare the action of the PX-5S to the Roland A-88 Thanks!
  9. I am looking to replace my keyboard controller for my home studio (Studiologic 990-XP - motherboard has gone bad) and researching fully weighted, graded action 88 key controllers. I have a classical music background so I am looking for the best authentic acoustic keyboard feel in the $1,000 - $1,500 price range. I have narrowed my serach down to 2 controllers: Casio PX-5S and the Roland A-88. Has anyone here had the opportunity to compare the action and velocity sensitivity between the PX-5S and the Roland A-88? I understand the PX-S5 has triple sensor keybed and the Roland A-88 is not using the keybed with the triple sensor found in is flagship RD800. But in all practicality, will this really make a difference in the real world when we are playing, composing and arranging? I'm also curious if there are any Studiologic 990-XP owners here who have tried the PX-5S and can advise how the action compares between those two keyboards as well. Thanks so much for your input!! - Steve
  10. I too am looking to replace my keyboard controller for my home studio (Studiologic 990-XP - motherboard gone bad) and I am ready to pull the trigger on the PX-5S but also have my eyes on the Roland A-88 however there is not one I can check out locally. So I'm really curious if anyone here had the opportunity to compare the keyboard feel and velocity sensitivity between the PX-5S and the Roland A-88. And I'm also curious if there are any Studiologic 990-XP owners here who can advise how the keyboard feel and velocity sensitivity of PX-5S compares to that as well. Thanks so much for your input!! - Steve
