  1. The Rokits are powered studio monitors but I think are designed for +4db signals which might explain the loss of volume (as the PX-5S is -10db). They do have their own gain knob on the back which would help to compensate. I haven't messed with this as I use the Rokits for other applications and so hard to find one setting that works best. The line in for inputs 3/4 on the Focusrite has two settings for high/low gain. The high gain can clip easily and the low gain is not enough. Once I change the volume on the PX-5S I can start to dial it all in and sounds good. The pre-amps inputs 1/2 are still the best option on the Focusrite.
  2. I went ahead and tried directly connecting the PX-5s to the RCA unbalanced input on the KRK Rokit and it sounded good. Could still have been a litter loader but overall seemed to be normal. It still kind of odd though that I have to use the line in instrument setting on the Focusrite to get a good signal though. If I switch to line level it really just drops off. I did an initial all on the settings.
  3. I need a little help with how users are best hooking these up to studio monitors. I'm not getting much volume unless I run the line out through the main pre-amps on my Focusrite and setting the level to instrument. If I use the other line inputs (3 and 4) on the back of the unit the signal is pretty week. I also tried going directly into the Rokit's balanced TRS input and also got week sound. The sound is definitely coming through but maybe a 1/3 of what you might consider load would be. Now if I go ahead and use the pre-amps it sounds really good. Any ideas?
  4. I'm curious if anyone else is using their PX-5S for the sound library? I just starting using Jam Origin's MIdi Guitar VST which converts guitar notes into midi commands. For some of my looping I thought it would be cool to have this trigger sounds on the PX-5S. The signal chain would be pick guitar note > USB Audio Interface > DAW > Jam Origin VST > PX-5S > USB Audio Interface > DAW > Looper VST > Speakers. Seems like a long signal chain and not sure about the latency. I plan on giving it a try but curious if others are using it for this? Alternatively I could go ahead and buy Sample Tank/Kontact but seems a little unnecessary if I have all these great sounds in the Casio. Or maybe actually just strike the keys on the PX-5S and forget about the extra routing.
  5. I have my Casio on a On-Stage X-Stand. The lowest setting goes down to 27 inch which puts the keys at about 32 inch. Most acoustic pianos are at 28 inch. From what I've read on other forums this is pretty common. The stand is pretty well reviewed which is surprising since you can't get 28 inches. I'm new to playing the keyboard and want to start off with good posture. I have my seat height a little higher to compensate. I believe the Casio wood stand does put the keys at 28 inches so might go for that down the road. Does anyone else play at non-standard heights or should I try to emulate the characteristics of a acoustic piano.
  6. So I just purchased the Casio PX-5S and very excited to join the community. I purchased the piano mainly to learn a new instrument. I'm also excited about the midi features as I currently mess around with Ableton and like to compose songs. How many users have their PX-5S integrated with their DAW for audio recording? I know that the PX-5S sends midi over USB but do others find it useful to add a USB audio interface? Alternatively are people finding it easiest to record to a USB stick directly? I'm thinking I'll want a USB audio interface as this will allow me to use Ableton (which I'm familiar with) and get all the sounds from Casio and not rely on additional VST instruments. The PX-5S has a line in so I could also send a guitar signal or other sounds to the keyboard to compose in the casio? I didn't purchase it with this in mind but suppose it is an option. Interested in hearing how others record? I don't currently own a USB audio interface and thinking of the Focusrite Scarlet.
  7. Does anyone know why this is on clearance at guitar center? Is there is a new model coming out or something. The product is highly acclaimed so I can't figure out why they would have it on clearance. The price though is the same as other retailers. New to casio products and thinking of getting one. glad to see such an active community.
