  1. What is the difference between "MIDI recording data" (ZMF) and "MIDI Recording SMF"? Ref manual pages EN-60 and 88. What are the advantages / uses of each? Thanks!
  2. Hello, Im new in the comunity, I have used the search option but didnt found anything about. I have a new Casio CTK-5200 and Im using midi files, the question is if there is any way to play the midi files using the AHL source or Built-in Tones instead the GM-Tones?, I try SMF converter and it generates a .CM2 file, I put it in the keyboard via Data Manager or SD and still plays with GM-Tones, other question, in the product specs Casio says that this reference can play DSP user files but I didnt found any helpful information, Thanks.
  3. Hi, I have the following problem. I start with a decent GM midifile which sounds nice when played as a SMF file directly on my PX-5S. I checked the messages in Logic's list editor and they are indeed standard GM. But then, I ltry to play the same midifile into Logic Pro X , with all the tracks set on external midi with the PX-5S USB-Midi as a destination. And suddenly , the PX-5S doesn't recognize the program change messages anymore, and consequently does not select the right sounds. Same goes for Band-in-a-box (with PS-5X selected as Coremidi destination) , by the way, and of course the possibility of selecting sounds directly in Logic Pro X through external midi tracks and its inspector. Whenever standard GM Program change messages are send to the PS-5X, it doesn't seem to respond as a GM-compatible soundmodule. It only does through its internal SMF playback mode. Didi I miss smething in the process ? Thanks for your help :-))
  4. G'day all and thanks for contributing to this plethora of knowledge regarding the Casio Synths. I bought the XW-P1 last year and was completely daunted by the depth and versatility of Casio's contraption, not having any idea on what I was really buying. But I know Casio has been building digital keyboards for years and have heard from many people in the industry that they usually sound better than the rest. My biggest problem is I have no idea how to play it, but i'll persevere... I've been searching the forum for more detail on how to things. A big thanks to Patrick for the huge post on how to upload WAV files via the Casio XW Data Manager. Q.1) I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to create a SMF (Standard MIDI File) type 0 / or type 1 (*.mid) that will be compatible for upload to the XW-P1 ? Q.2) If this is possible are you then able to play normally over the MIDI output with all the functionality of the Synth? Q.3) I noticed upon playback of my sample .WAV file - that I was restricted to only using the solo synth tone category? There is no mention on capability during file playback in the manual on E-72 or there after. Could I edit the default synth tone? Thanks again for anyone who may answer these questions, unfortunately i have run out of time to look through http://www.casiomusicforums.com/ for an answer.... If someone knows of a document, thread or video about these things - can you please let us know? CHEERS Thanks again all! Happy Jamming !
  5. New owner, struggling to accomplish something seemingly simple: 1) record a single-instrument (piano) tune 2) export it as a SMF file on the USB flash drive 3) edit the SMF file as necessary 4) re-import it to the PX-5S via the flash drive 5) play the file and make an audio recording Haven't been able to get to step 2 yet...I keep stubbing my toe on converting the recorded phrase to a song...can't get the new song to create. Any thoughts? I wish the documentation were more coherent and didn't require bouncing around all over the place! Thanks in advance!
