Yamaha MX49/MX61 or Roland DS61

I am not a midi specialist, but the general idea is that to choose and play a sound from your midi keyboard, you have to send the corresponding "program change" and "msb" messages (these numbers are listed in the "apendix" in the manuals section under columns 4 and 5).
Either your midi keyboard can send these messages and you don't need your computer, or it can't and you have to send these messages through Logic Pro.
Anyway, the fact that these 2 messages are listed in the manuals should mean that a CT-X can be used just as a midi sound module.

The best prices for the CT-X series in Europe right now (delivery in 20 countries),

Very nice presentation !
I liked very much to see that Casio offers the possibility to download customized/edited sounds from their websiite.
Not everybody is good at tweeking sounds with a good result (I am one of those !)
Hopefully there will be a forum topic here where the CT-X users will propose/exchange their customized sounds !

333 euros for the X3000, and
433 euros for the X5000.

I think the hype will continue growing !
Also prices have gone a little down in Europe: x700/190euros, X3000/333euros, X5000/433euros. (X800 at 300euros is still "too expensive".)

The CT-X700's price is starting to decrease in Europe: 191 euros today (had started at 249 not long time ago).

You both, Brad and George convinced me: I am getting the X5000 !
Thanks !

I hope, with the time, i will find a shop that has both the X3000 and X5000 standing next to each other so that my ears tell me if the X5000's speakers are in my case, worth the (substantial) extra cost !
-
I forgot to mention: after having played the X3000, I spent a few minutes trying the new Psr E463, i can't say enough how boring that was!
The gap is big (soundwise) between the two, and in Europe they cost the same !!!

So I got to play the 3000 and 5000 side by side yesterday. At comfortable volume about mid way I could not hear any difference at all. Piano sounds down to C0 sound identical. I was focusing on lower frequency stuff like Kick drum and basses. No discernable difference in 6w vs 15w onboard amp/ speakers at normal listening levels and bearing in mind that your ears are 1m away from the speakers. You need the volume dialled up to just over half way to make the piano sound about the volume of a real piano.
I have only played the X3000 but i was thinking of maybe getting the X5000 for suposedly a better/cleaner sound with 15 watts (mic input/pedal were of no interest to me).
I am sticking with X3000 then. Thanks for making me save 100 euros !

So, i have finally tried a CT-X3000 ! (I had to stand in a line, so the hype is still there !)
Cons:
- Speakers are just "ok", but that was to be expected due to their size. I will use active monitors, so not a big issue for me.
- Some "toyish" sounds coming from older Casio's i imagine. I wonder why they included them ! To reach the 800 instruments number i guess, which i don't think was a good idea because they kind of "spoil" a little the general impression of the keyboard.
Plus
- Good feel on the keys. Imo better than on Psr's.
- Good/Realistic quality and "character" of most instruments (listening through my good headphones that i brought).
I want to insist on "Character" because it is the reason why my decision is to get the X3000 instead of the Psr s670.
Instruments on the Psr are "cleaner". The samples are, i think, technically of better quality but they lack "personality" vs the good ones on the X3000 (Pianos, Electric Pianos, Organs, Basses, Drums + some Guitars/Strings/Brass/Reed/Synths), which have this "bite"/"beef" (sorry for possibly the wrong words) that the Psr doesn't have.
(It reminds me of the same difference imo between Korg PA (more lively/with more character) and Yamaha PSR (cleaner/more neutral).
I think that a gigging "pro" keyboard player (with hiding the Casio logo !) could fool an audience with a CT-X3000 (connected to an amplified system), because some Pianos, Electric Pianos, Organs and Synths are really good !

To be precise, in Europe, the Psr s670 (550 euros) costs only 100 euros more than the CT-X5000. Which imo makes the Psr a much better bargain (vs X5000).
Therefore my dilemma is now: CT-X3000 (350 euros) or pay 200 euros more for the Superior Psr s670 ? Decision will be made as soon as i have put my hands in a shop on a X3000 (having already played the s670).
Does the s670 sound "200 euros better" than the CT-X3000 ? We'll see !
As for the CT-X700, even at 250 euros, it is still the best choice vs Psr E453/463..

Much better speakers, 16 tracks midi sequencer, style creator. At the same price i would pick the S550 without hesitation.

For those (in the US) who have an amplified system, active speakers etc... (and thus don't need the 30 watts of the x5000) the X3000 is a great bargain at this price,

If the CC message also means to response multi-timbrel on each channel that would be sweet,
cause that means you can hook it to a DAW and do some narly stuff with controls messages.
It must be multi-timbral since there is a msb and lsb value corresponding to each instrument.

Went out to try me sum CT-X today, It sounds inspiring there are sounds in there that gives the creative
jitter-bug and make music.
I don't have high expectations of a CT keyboard but these new
sounds makes a big difference some even put a smile on the face.
Nice ! Could you be more specific about which instruments that was. It is pleasant to get as much positive infos as possible, since we have to wait so long before getting our X3000 or X5000 ! Thanks.
