I am having a different but similar problem with our Privia 3xs. On the grand Piano sound "D" above "Middle C" intermittently reacts different to velocity then the other keys, This problem only occurs with this Grand Piano patch. I have never experienced this problem using an organ sound or electric piano sound. I am thinking it it may be helpful to do a factory reset. Does anyone know how to do a factory reset on the Casio Privia PX3s.

Power on while simultaneously holding the [TONE] and [FUNCTION] buttons.

  2.

I intend trying the 5 with my V-Machine & VB3. I did try my PX3 with V machine VB3 but didnt find it useable.

As the 5 has programable sliders and knobs, Im more hopeful with this combo.

I would be very interested to hear how this works out. I also have a PX-3 and V-Machine running VB3. I am still waiting for the PX-5S to arrive in the UK so that I can try it out.

  3. I am still waiting for the PX-5S to arrive in the UK. But a library of song-based Stage Settings would be useful. This an area where, in my opinion, the Kurzweil PC3 and Yamaha Motif range excel. There are a huge number of song specific sounds already programmed or available  for purchase as libraries. This saves a huge amount of time when preparing for corporate functions,  weddings and to a  lesser extent stage shows/musicals as a lot of the sounds required are already available.

With regard to specific songs, This was started/covered in this thread:

    http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/topic/4239-song-ready-stage-settings/

  4. Is it a simple matter of taking a MIDI out from the Behringer FCB1010 into the PX-5S then having immediate expression control from one of the two foot controllers?

I have not tried a PX-5S yet - they are not yet available in the UK. But from reading the manuals and from what Mike Martin has said then basically yes. You would need to program the FCB1010 to send CC#11 on the desired midi channel.

  5. REO performed the wind thing live like that in one of the videos.   But, It's like you asked before Joe.  Which version does everyone think of?  That would be the one I would perform.

This is the one I play - albeit rarely.

(Same as posted earlier by Joe Muscara).

As aside when playing covers with various bands I am nearly always asked to play the studio version as this is usually the one most people are familiar with.

  6. On a very minor side note, I would rather have seen SD-card support than USB drive, although I can see very good reasons they would have gone with the USB drive.  On my PX-320, I could leave the SD-card fully inserted all the time, without fear that it would get bumped during transport or setup.  I don't think I'll feel so comfortable doing this with a USB drive that sticks out there more.

Would a mini USB drive meet your needs? Something like:

    http://www.amazon.com/HP-v165w-Flash-Drive-P-FD4GBHP165-EF/dp/B00404JF80/ref=sr_1_40?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1376115992&sr=1-40&keywords=mini+usb+drive

  7. Two solutions:

    1.  Good headphones.  I use Sennheiser HD-280 Pro headphones, which I really like.  They're "closed-back", and block a lot of outside noise.  They have large pads, and rest on the head, not on the ears -- so they're comfortable for extended sessions.

Sony V6 or MDR-7506 headphones would be an alternative.    For "open-back" headphones, any AKG or Sennheiser phones, at about the $100 price-point, should work fine.  AKG K240's are an old stand-by, if you can find them.

    2.  Improved loudspeaker(s).  I have an Electro-Voice ZXA1 powered PA loudspeaker on order, and will report back here.  Other people have used "powered studio monitors" by Mackie, M-Audio, and so on.

There have been extensive discussions on the "Digital Piano" forum at

    http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/6/1/Digital%20Pianos%20-%20Synths%20&%20.html

if you want to learn more, and read more (many more!) opinions.

    .             Charles

    Charles,

have you tried the ZXA1 yet?

  8. Ah, I see: the MIDI Solutions pedal controller gets power from the MIDI connection. If I were feeding a MIDI connector from another device into it instead (e.g., another synthesizer) would that provide the power?

With regard to the Behringer FCB1010, which I am leaning toward because of the sheer number of controllers it offers (two pedals and a dozen footswitches), it has its own power supply so I assume this woud not be a factor.

The MIDI Solutions controller will take its power from most MIDI Outs - this link http://www.midisolutions.com/faqs.htm lists the products that do not provide enough power.

To use the FCB1010 with the PX-5S you would simply need to connect the Midi Out of the FCB1010 to the Midi In of the PX-5S.

If you connect anything to the the Midi In of the FCB1010, then, depending on how things are programmed, incoming Midi data will be merged with the FCB1010 data and sent to the PX-5S.

  9. Hi AlenK. My own approach to this keyboard is very application specific. I'm using it primarily in a praise and worship band, and like to layer different sounds fluidly throughout the service. It's probably not what most users would do. But anyway, I basically layer both hexes (one on top of the other) in a stage setup, and then control their respective layers with the sliders as a single unit. I had to come up with a way to control the balance between layer 1 of hex 1 and layer 1 of hex 2 (to use an example) which is why I came up with the pulse wave solution. There are other ways of doing this btw but this lets me do it with a single value.

Setting up the sliders to control the layers in a single hex is extremely easy to do, and since that's the approach most players take I wouldn't worry too much about how I'm doing it. But since I haven't seen anything quite like what I'm doing in the current PX-5s videos, I'm thinking about making one as soon as my life gives me the time to do so.

I would be very interested to see this.

  10. Very few keyboards will sustain the sound as you are describing.  I have owned Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Kurzweil and more.  The only one that I have that will do what you are saying is the Korg Kronos or Korg Kronos X.  Sorry.  I wish they would all do this but I guess it requires a lot more horsepower than most synths or stage pianos have.  I feel your pain when it comes to performing.  It is, indeed, embarrassing when the drastic change happens.

I am afraid that this is not accurate. For example the Kurzweill PC3 series and Roland Fantom X both offer seamless patch switching. Back to Casio - providing that you are careful with effects then this is also achievable on the PX-3. I would be very surprised if it cannot be achieved on the PX-5S.

  11. The timing problem occurs sometimes in the Arpeggiator within a StageSetup and in the SongSequencer or simply if you loop a phrase.

It is sometimes a very short delay on the loop point, when the phrase does not excatly end at the end of a bar, or if some configration Data is send at the beginning of a phrase, which delays the beginning of the the first note a bit.

Normally you will not recognize it, but if you play more than one track looping in the SongSequencer the tracks begin to differ a bit after some loops.

It is not inside a phrase. So as Brad write we all hope that Casio will fix this soon.

I have prepared a "Song" just for the Metromone here http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/70-metronome-package/

This method imports the Song and the Phrase in one step. So it is automatically located in the correct position. (Song No 9 and Phrase 999)

    Thanks for the information.

  12. Thanks for the report. From a purely personal viewpoint I agree with you with regard to Casio UK - but I assume that their decision was made on a commercial basis, which we have to accept.

Please let us know where you purchase your PX-5S from and the cost. I think £899 is a little steep especially when you hear of people in the USA buying them for $999 and others getting a further $150 off in a Father's Day sale, (I fully realize that this does not take all 'commercial factors' into account), so let us hope that it will be priced lower.

  13. Editor 1.0.0 window pops up, the blue bar goes to about 30% across, then stops.

    - like it waiting for something. System utilization goes to around 100%

    - usually have to hard boot PC to get out of this mode.

    - I downloaded the Editor a 2nd time to make sure I didn’t have a corrupted file…still having the same issue.

The installation does not require the PX-5S to be connected.

How long are you waiting while the status bar is at 30% and CPU 100%? On a slower single core machine this could easily take a minute or so.

What spec PC/laptop are you using?

    On XPSP3 try:

    Disconnecting the PX-5S.

    Uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

Start Task Manager and leave to show performance.

Start the editor with the PX-5S disconnected.

Start the editor and wait for a few minutes.

This will establish whether the installation was successful.

If after, say, 5 minutes, the editor is still 'stuck' tab to the Task manger this will take time and kill the editor. On XPSP3 there should not be a need to reboot.

If you are sill having problems let me know and I will try the editor on a Win7 PC for you.

  14. I can't see the OP's original post or replies. I just see a period. Strange.

I think it is likely to be a system problem. I think the OP was tvl919. An Error 410 is likely to indicate that this user is 'no longer on the system'.
