  1. Hello, thank's to everyone who tried to help me with this, my knowledge on midi must be lousy, I just cant seem to start or trigger an xw-p1 phrase with midi. I can trigger a phrase in step sequencer, but it isn't the phrase I want to trigger, and it doesn't have the instrument and effect's that I had on the original phrase. It's a shame the xw-p1 will never have another firmware update to address this problem of triggering phrase's and arp's with midi. It just seem's there should be a much easier, better way to do it.
  2. Hello, is there a way to trigger or start xw-p1 phrase's from a daw? I think it has something to do with NRPN but I don't know how to do it .Basically I have the xw-p1 as the slave using old school midi port's, im using a vs 2400 as my master. In midi setting's of xw-p1 I have NRPN for phrase on, and the sync mode as slave. My vs2400 daw start's the step seq in xw-p1, but I don't know how to start or trigger xw-p1 phrase's or arp's. Many thank's to anyone on the forum who could give me any info on this subject.
  3. Windex, a good Micro Fiber cloth, and an electronic air compressor/blower. I once took apart my old Yamaha psr730 and, discovered after about ten years of smoke filled bar's and using any old cloth's or paper towel's to clean it with, it had a lot of debri build up inside. Also the inside's were a little tacky feeling. After doing some research I learned that most cloth's and any paper towels were adding to the build up, so I switched to soft Micro Fiber cloth's.They leave no debri behind, and their not abrasive, which really help's to prevent paint loss, and those nasty plastic rub's in the synth casing's. If you go to walmart in the glasses department they have really large Micro Fiber cloth's. Aso use some kind of an electric compressed air machine. The disposable compressed air has gasses that over time can cause damage to sensitive electronics, and it leaves a sticky residue that build's up over time.
  4. Thank's guy's, what I know about computer's could fill a thimble.
  5. Hello forum, sometimes when I go online ,and then on this site I am already signed in, but I didn't sign in. It will do this for awhile, and then it will go back to having to sign in again. I know im signing out when I leave this site. Is this normal?
  6. Hi Mr. Martin, There is one down side for me joining this forum, and that is I don't have good tech speak, heck im just a country boy. when I hear a synth or instrument I like I don't even care if I can tweak the sound a lot, I just think wow I like this sound I will use it. That's not to say that I don't try to experiment and create my own sound's, (the xw-p1 has certainly expanded that area of my brain) it's just there's some technical terms and things on synth's that I don't really fully understand. From 1984 to now is how long I have been playing synth's, and in all that time I have never read much about how synth's work or really studied how they work. I would just dive in head first into a synth and do more songwriting then synth tweaking, I would like to contribute more knowledge to the forum , but im afraid In some instances I might give inaccurate answer's. I did have answer's to a few questions asked on the forum, that made me feel happy. I guess what im trying to say is that im more of a cheerleader, or morale officer for the xw-p1 than anything. I am going to go on utube and download video tutorial's on how synth's work, so I can contribute more to this forum. Thank you for your time.
  7. Hi forum people, just wanted to say you guy's are allright. I have never been big on social media, I have never had a facebook account, and this is the first forum I have ever joined. It is not that im anti social or anything, I have just always preferred in person interaction. However my experience with this forum has been very positive, as well as informative, and fun. The music done with the xw's , and the px-5s have been inspiring. Many thank's to Mike Martin, and everyone else I have interacted with on this forum. I am glad I joined.
  8. What ever casio makes next they should stick with those blue l.e.d's, they just look so cool.
  9. Hi Mr Martin, I was hoping the xw-g1 would sample at the stereo input at 16 bits so I could sample on the fly from the xw-g1 in 16 bits. Now that I know it cant, I might look into the little korg sampler. Thanks for the info and your time.
  10. Thanks Scott, this really helped, I look forward to any additional info you have.
  11. Thanks XW-Addict and AllenK for your input, I know I sound a bit picky about the bits. I do hope Mike gives me the info on the xw-G1.
  12. I was going to save up for the xw-g1, but after reading manual specs I think I will have to pass, I need at least 16 bit sampling. Ten bits is just to low.
  13. Hi forum, I have had my xw-p1 for about three and a half months. That's usually about the time rubs and paint wear start to show. On my motif 6 it was the end caps, the silver paint started coming off on the corners, with my vs2400 it was the transport buttons, but amazingly my xw-p1 shows absolutely no signs of wear, or rubs or paint coming off. Im guessing maybe casio used really good orange, black, and white paint. and maybe instead of spraying silver paint on the casing ,they may have made the casing molded silver plastic. Whatever the case, im impressed.
  14. Hi Joe, I agree with everything you said, but when it comes to the xw synths there is very little good documentation, the only good info in the xw manual is the midi implementation chart. Now if we didn't have Mikes videos I would have tried to figure it out with the manual, but it is almost completely useless. As far as Mike changing his answer to a question about NRPNs, I bet he didn't get the answer from the manual. It has been proven that people learn faster and better when someone shows them how something works, (like Mikes videos) as compared to learning it from a book or manual. Now if casio had made an understandable manual that was written in straight forward vigorous English with better visual cues I would not have said manual shmanual, but as it stands, I stand by my comment. However, I get what your saying. If I would have got my xw-p1 way back over a year ago when it first came out I would have certainly needed the manual ,and any other documentation that existed at that time .but I got my xw-p1 in april this year, when there was two tutorials and a clinic video by Mike Martin, not to mention the ton of videos on utube and various other sources, and now we have the newest clinic video from just a few days ago. Although when I first got my xw-p1 I did reference the manual at first for things i wanted to learn, but I found it was somewhat confusing. I got more from video tutorials, and this forum than I did the manual. I guess my perspective on the xw manual is that in a way its obsolete , and if Mike Martin does two or three more clinics, he will have explained pretty much how the intire xw-p1 works.I do believe we need manuals for the electronic products we buy, Its just that darn xw-p1 manual.
  15. Who needs the manual to the xw synths, we got Mike Martins clinic vids That's much better than a paperbook manual.
  16. Thank you Mr Martin, I enjoyed your music you have on sound cloud. I hope someday your able to finish your cd, your as good as any famous artists like Vangelis, Yawnnie, Enya, I have found that type of music (new age, ambient, meditative) the hardest to do, unlike most western music that is driven by a beat, there is an organic ebb and flow that is a big part of how (new age, ambient, meditative) music is created. You have that ability to tie all that together very nicely.
  17. Awesome !!! Mr Martin, casios synths sound so analogue. Pink Floyd and Vangelis are my favorite artist, so this was something I enjoyed very much. I was wondering do you have a cd for purchase of your music Mr Martin? I would buy one, if you don't have a cd or download of your music you should , you got good skills.
  18. Thank you XW Addict, and Mr Martin for the xwg1 info. I will save up to get the xwg1. Man I love those xw series synths.
  19. Hi AllenK, listened to the files you uploaded, I have to say good job, it did improve the dist/od effect.
  20. Hello fellow forum people, I am really craving a sampling keyboard, but there seems to be only two fairly new ones on the market, korg ,and casio. I really love my xw-p1 (among the best synths ever) and I thought wow! it would be cool to have both xw-p1 and xw-g1. I just have a couple of questions . Does the g1 sample across the keys polyphonically? like a sample of someone laughing, then you play a bunch of keys and it sounds like a lot of people laughing. Can you play samples in the sequencer? If the xw-g1 does these two things , I am going to save up for one. Thanks to any one who takes the time to give me the info on the xw-g1.
  21. Hi AllenK , I am baffled by many aspects of the xw-p1, its the weirdest synth ive ever owned. I do like the other effects on the xw-p1 , its just that darn overdrive distortion. I am interested in hearing what you come up with the overdrive/distortion,filter effect.
  22. I will rephrase, is there going to be another xw-p1 firmware update?
