  1. I love watching u tube videos of electronic musical gear, this guy has some chops. If you notice he plays the xw-p1 more.
  2. It has 16 voice polophony, and 20 adjustable fx, it can play as a pad sampler with 27 blue l.e.d.lit pads , the pads also double as keyboard keys so when you switch from pad to keyplay mode you can play polyphonic samples on mini pad keys.Has sample cut copy, truancate, slice, reverse, timestretch, pitching. midi in for remote big key play ,and other midi functions. The pads have touch sensitivity. It has a four track sequencer for sample pad play or keyplay. will save 100 sequences . It has 24 bit sampling rate at 44.1khs, It will also record in lower sample rates, two minutes sampling time, theres a stereo 1/4 in, out , a stereo 1/8 in, out, a mic input, built in mic,1/8 headphone jack. Saves 100 samples to sd card , up to 32gigs. Also its black with small blue lit lcd display. true blacklight reactive orange lettering, runs on 4 AA batterys or included power supply. USB for data transfer and editing ,It fits perfectly on the xw-p1 shelf because its about the same size as the korg volca synths. I wish casio would make this, i bet you dollars to donuts they would sell like hotcakes, for around two hundred bucks.
  3. Hi, ive had the xw-p1 for about a month now , and i just wanted to share my thoughts on this amazing synth. The xw-p1 has its own sound, but also sounds like other synths,it has some features of every kind of synth ever made ,some of the best sounds and groove making abillities, some of the worst sounds. When i say worst im mainly talking about the overdrive and distortion guitars in the xw-p1.There simply awful, with that being said, i can forgive the xw-p1 that one flaw, because it does everything else beatifully. I know you cant compare it to a two thousand dollar board, so i wont, I will compare it to a thirty five hundred dollar board. The jupiter 80. I listened to both these boards side by side and the jupiter sounded amazing , but it was alot of to simular sounds , piano, piano strings, but after about five minutes the xw-p1 wowed me with its sounds and diversity, and price, dont get me wrong i think roland makes great gear , i just prefer the sound and features of the xw-p1 over the jupiter 80. The step sequencer can be truly interactive, its a little weird and qwerky, but you can get it to do what you want, and if you play a little against the grid, the xw-p1 will collaborate with you by taking your sequence and throwing it back at you a little or alot different, you can come up with fresh stuff with this synth, and you can add a feel of unpredictabillity to your grooves. The method of creating sounds(hex) on the xw-p1 is as briiliant as the step sequencer. love the phraze seq, gives me another polyphonic track for recording. So many things i like about this synth, and its stunning to the eye, this is one sweet synth, and at the end of the day, i dont care if its made of plastic.
  4. I still have my sk-1 sampling synth from the 80s,Its in perfect working order. Man that thing was fun,it was my first sampling synth. It made me laugh, and still does.
  5. Just a sort of cryptic observation about some new grooveboxes i recently heard.
  6. HI,Last night i took my xw-p1 outside of my studio out back where i live, which is way out in the country. Jammed some hex layer phrazes, about thirty. It was so cool and inspiring to be outside at night, with just my xw-p1, my 2 dogs and a little backpack with various things, water, snacks, flashlight, foldout chair, headphones. Now i have some mother nature inspired phrazes, alot of cool pads. Just another reason why the xw-p1 is in my top ten favorite synths of all time.
  7. Hi Mike, Thank you very much sir for responding to my post about k1(cutoff) andk2(resonance) and tempo. Performance mode solved the tempo problem.Do i now save performances to the xw-p1? and does each performance save the sequence data, chains , for that piticular performance?and can i save all that as an all file on sd card? Sorry im asking so many questions, and i asure you once i get past these two things on the xw-p1 i wont be asking questions,i will be making some music. Ive figured out the xw-p1 enough to make it do what i hoped it would do,In the future anything i want to learn on the xw-p1will just be happy accidents. its just those two things. k1(cutoff) k2(resonance) I started out with my step sequences i made with k1,k2 changes on my individual tracks in the step sequencer,i went to performance mode and saved the performance, that solved the tempo problem, however when i went to another performance i lost the k1, k2 settings i had made on the individual tracks of the step sequencer. If this is a limitation of the xw-p1 i can accept that, its still a fantastic synth. If there was a way to address this in the next firmare upgrade it would go a long way in the sound sculpting aspect of the xw-p1. Thank you for your time Mr Martin, Sincerly , Pat Arend
  8. Hi, If anyone on the forum can help me with this one thing i promise i wont be asking a bunch of newbie questions in the future. Ive pretty well figured out most of the xw-p1 step sequencer, but ive come to a little roadblock. When im in step seq mode making my own custom seq or modifing one, i can save k1(cutoff) and k2 on each individual seq track, drums 1 through 5 bass, solo 1,2,and chord .I can also save all this in the chain. The problem is when i move to another step sequence i lose all my k1, k2, and my overall song tempo. When i go back to the sequence where i made the k1 and k2 settings for each part, drums 1 through 5 , solo 1,2 bass, and chord. The changes i made to the instruments (tracks) with k1 and k2 are gone and the tempo. Ive tried to save the step sequences, and the chains as all files and all the other ways to save files ,but so far i cant save k1,k2 on inst tracks or tempo. Is there a way to save tempo, k1,k2, for individual tracks in seq mode?Basically im trying to save mentioned changes preforablly to an all file where i can save everything at once.Or maybe its a controller issue while im still in step seq step edit mode, or a limittation of the xw-p1 , or maybe a firmware update would address it .I guess im stumped as how to save these changes.
  9. HI, just a few thoughts about the xw-p1. Ive finally got around to really diving into creating my own grooves with the step sequencer and chains. started at 10 pm last night stopped a little after 4am this morning.Conclusion....... This is the ultimate groove box.The possibilitiys really are endless, and theres something really extra special about the sound enviroment in this part of the synth .When you start assembling things it gells real nice and and sounds real phat. The xw-p1 is starting to become one of my favorite synths.
  10. Hi SEAN 777, I did get a little noise when i cranked up the xw-p1 all the way but, still for a 1/8 inch jack to knock out about 70 percent of the noise was impressive. I normally keep the big master volume knob of the xw-p1 at around 1 or 2 oclock ,this synth has alot of amp like power if you run that volume all the way, which can be pretty cool to get dirty sounds if one wanted to. Im going to try messing around with that noise gate filter. thanks .
  11. Hi, i have a monotron delay, it was so noisey it was practically unusable. No matter what i hooked it up to it was noisey as heck, but then i hooked it up to the stereo input of the xw-p1and to my amazement it was completly noise free. so from now on im keeping it and my mp3 player through a little mixer permently hooked up to my xw-p1s input. The stereo input on the xw-p1 is very, very excellent.
  12. Hi,my name is pat, im new to forums, and by new i mean this is the first forum ive ever joined. Im an old school guy and i dont even have a facebook account. Im just an old duffer.I can read fine but im not very good at typing or spelling so please forgive my lousy grammer. I really love my new xw-p1, Ive been playing keyboards since 1984 and i have to say the xw-p1 is kind of different from what im used to but im figuring it out. ive owned moog , yamaha, korg, roland, kawai, and casio boards.theres really alot in the xw-p1 and again i really love this board, They should have named this board the enigma (jokingly) because it is the best and worst keyboard ive ever owned,by that i mean ive got some of the best sounds out of it and some of the worst, its a chamealon. The pattern sequencer blows my yamaha motifs pattern sequencer out of the water, and the xw-p1 is the coolest looking board ive ever seen ,those blue l.e.d.s are cool. Its been about 12 years since ive been jazzed about a keyboard, not since the original yamaha motif. The xw-p1 really speaks to me ,ive heard the xw-p1 was marketed towards young people, and thats cool , young people deserve pro boards to.but i think it was made for us old farts to , that is to say that most young people probably dont know what old school midi ports are for, i could be wrong on that thought, but for me those midi ports helped seal the deal.I would like to thank mike martin for making the almost useless manual obsolete, those u tube videos are great. I suspect theres some hidden features on the xw-p1 as i have discovered a few things that were not in the manual or the videos. In the future i will keep anything i post about this fantastic keyboard as brief as possible. thank you . sincerly, Pat arend.
